To me it was my all-time favorite. I basically only watched a few more episodes after this season. The pre-2000 casts actually had intelligent people, as opposed to later seasons where it was all about getting drunk, fighting, and hooking up.
I'm 40 now but seeing this takes me back to coming home from school, getting a snack, and watching TRL and the real world. lol It was definitely a better time in my life that's for sure
21:33 LMFAO legendary. Iconic moment. This should have included Melissa’s “Time out! Time the f*** out!” though. And the legendary Mardi Gras confessional. But what about the South Africa trip? Arguably the GOAT season behind the original New York and the original San Diego. Truly excited for the Homecoming.
When Julie fought that woman and was like wow I lost, and Melissa was like, “well you fought a girl named squirrel”. I remember dying when I saw that and I hope I find that clip.
Been watching the Real World Homecoming- New Orleans cause feeling nostalgic for the late 90s. One of the best times to grow up. It's crazy to see that whole crew in their 40s. Plus, always loved Melissa. Her personality is still infectiously fun and she was one of the first people of Filipino descent that I ever saw on TV.

As someone from New Orleans, I remember being at a Mardi Gras parade one night, and passing by the Belfort, where the cast was all sitting out on the steps. One of my favorite seasons of the Real World. I still crack up thinking about when Melissa was in the car, and trying to get directions for Thrift City. Is it a four lane, no Tulane....ha, ha.

Definitely loved this season growing up. I just watched their homecoming season, but it’s been so long since I’ve seen this season lol. One of these days I need to rewatch it on Paramount Plus.
It’s so refreshing to see honest depictions of gay men on TV other than the super flamboyant and sassy gay men on TV now that perpetuate gay stereotypes
This season shaped me as a person, I was in middle school. First exposure to don't ask don't tell...so many great and difficult conversations were had. I think the Julie's of today would have a harder time. Of course with sm there's less excuses to say things like "colored" 🤯 I was very affected by these people though all of them and hope they're well. I remember looking up to Kelly Melissa and Danny in particular.
Kelly calling David (a grown Black man) a “big ol’ boy” never sat right with me. Especially with her being from Deep South Georgia. But I loved Melissa and Danny. ❤
I loved the bond & chemistry between Danny and Kelly. Their bond is what made me always want a good girlfriend who I could confide in as a gay boy. Melissa was my fav though.
I ussd to love the Real World when I was younger. This is back when MTV or just TV in general wasn’t oversaturated with reality shows like it is now . I always wondered how MTV afforded these big houses .
Everybody knows the music was like the eighth roommate; guiding important plot points & providing atmosphere. Sad to see even the original intro music has been replaced in addition to many other cues throughout the episodes that are (FINALLY) available on Paramount+ 😔 The Real World was/is a literal time capsule or yearbook for the 30+ & up club. I graduated high school the year the New Orleans season premiered, so I was looking forward to a COMPLETE rebroadcast of the episodes with everything intact, but Viacom insists on being cheap & not paying the artists/labels for the music licensing 🙄 So, here we are: A lukewarm "homecoming" of an otherwise great season of a legendary series
I agree about the music. When Julie boxes, Danny gets drunk on the float, and the the "Big Pimping" during Melissa's narration of David's fling added so much to the scenes.
@@FGC-ku4ez My sentiments exactly. I haven't watched all the episodes on Paramount+ as of yet, but just the first few minutes of Episode 1 was enough of a turnoff. The "Big Pimpin" Melissa/David Mardi Gras shenanigans was precisely the scene I was alluding to. It's not only a highlight of that season, but it's an iconic moment in the series as a whole. He very much wasn't. Not even a little bit. you know how I can tell he's fake? when he first met Julie, he was all trying to be suave and flirty. then ice cold. he did the same with Melissa and tried to bond with her on that 'we're both black' narrative. And then he found out the Melissa was funny and nice with other castmates, and he got cold to her too. I know guys like him in real life. If you're hanging out in a friend's circle, and every female in that circle wasn't fawning over him, he had nothing to share, open up about, or contribute.
