Whats extremely upsetting about all these auctions, is that it could be something we see in 2026 when all the BIGGEST COINS this decade will be dropping.
That’s when things are going your way be wild. I imagine folks will make sets of all the new coins/medals which the 230th products will be a key part of the sets.
The US Mint already had announced that it started a special 3-year series, beginning with 2024 in celebration of the 230th anniversary of 1794, the year it minted its first $1 (silver) coin. The year 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The Mint hasn't yet tied 2025 to any specific anniversary, and hasn't described the coins and medals for 2025 and 2026, although we know some 2026 coin designs for circulation coin will be modified, just like how the quarter, half, and one dollar coins were changed in 1975 and 1976 for the bicentennial of the DoI.
Good morning SOS Good show this morning!!! Was lucky enough to order one from the mint …. Received it yesterday and it’s flawless…. Beautiful coin 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I find it kinda funny that these FH gold coins with the privy would not even come close to these auction bids had WE bought them DIRECTLY from the Mint. People would be lucky to sell them for 1/50th of a bid price. 🤔 🧐 😆
US mint appears to have gone the route of “Vault Box” with the silver privy and now with the gold privy, cutting out the average collector completely. Always follow the money.
Be bolder and suggest a higher value for the low bound. $10K is a very low estimate. I could just as well say it'll sell for at least spot XAU and be right. The 2020 AE Gold V75 goes for $10K, and the product limit is 1945. The Flowing Hair gold coin with privy mark has a population of only 230. That's less than an eighth of 1945.
#230 is going to come in at a huge number SSS. Last coin of the auction, FOMO for those who have the money and want one. Pr70 to boot. Get ready to empty the vault for that one.
My prediction for the highest valued coins are #1 and #230. #1 will be won at $500K because of the dies which are historical. #230 will be second but at $100K.
I still can't believe that they did what they did with these coins. They ousted that everyday collector from their chance of getting one. Left a really bad taste in a lot of people's mouth.
@@SonOfASilverStacker yes I agree. But who is the one who really supports the mint. It's that average everyday collector. The one who buys 1 or 2 of most of what they make. Yes. Cancelled dies are fairly common. They sold tons of them for the 50 state and ATB quarters, but they were totally defaced. The 230th flowing hair die is nice because it's only moderately defaced.
Hi, SSS! Can you pls do a deep dive analysis of how well or poor the resale values are on the Mint's previous Morgan dollar auction, where they auctioned off special versions of the coins like the one personally stamped and signed by the Mint director, etc. Also they had some designated as the last ones minted, etc?
My magic eightball doesn't go up that high. Wild guess, 875k first, 55k last. Btw how the do you find the currency and engraved prints with out searching for it? Was at the bottom on the old site. No link cant help sales🙃
The mint has sold canceled dies in the past but most of them the design is completely burned or ground off, not much value. They did release 1995 1996 Olympic dies with just an X showing most of the design. These have increased in value. I have two of them. I am disappointed the mint is auctioning the gold privys, cuts out the common collector and only for the wealthy. Number one likely will go over 100K, For that much money I can think of a lot more other things I rather have, like a fully restored 1936 Ford convertible with rubble seat, my dad had one when I was young.
I'm in Hawaii, so I waited until 02:30:00 HST to begin refreshing the screen every few seconds. At 02:30:15, the coin became available for me, so I put it in my bag. However, a message immediately came up, stating that the coin is unavailable. If I had bagged it by 02:30:02, then I would've been able to check out and complete the order process in 12 seconds (I did it on Thu and Fri). But the latency in the Mint's servers is killing my chances of getting 24YG.
Had one in the cart already.. refreshed screen several times this morning on the checkout page, nothing. Went to my wish list and it was available went to check out, unavailable. Now I have 2 in my cart 🤨

SoaSS: Regarding your remark at 07:29, the 2020 AE Gold V75 had a mintage of 1945 (to mark the End of WWII). You accidentally said 1939 (which marks the Start of WWII in Europe). Anyway, do you think the 2024 Flowing Hair gold coin with privy mark is counted in the population of 24YG? That is, how many did the US Mint produced without the privy mark: 17,500 or 17,270? The page that describes 24YG makes no mention of the privy mark (unlike the 24YH page for the silver medal). To me, the gold coins with the privy mark are supposed to be part of a product variant of 24YG, so the 24YG page should mention the privy mark variant and include pictures and the link to the auction site data, too. As for which coin I'd buy if I had a spare $50K, I'd get the coin that represents my birth year. There are 230 coins, each serialized so its serial number represents the Nth anniversary since 1794. That means #1 represents 1795, and #230 represents 2024 -- there's no #0 to represent 1794. So, if I'm born in 1976 (the bicentennial of the DoI), then I'd bid for coin #182 (Lot 11182). Here's a fun "Where's Waldo?" thing to do: Get your audience to look at the first PF69 coin (Lot 11002) on the auction site, and have them find the flaws that kept if from being a PF70. I hope that if there's only one flaw, it isn't on the lettered edge.
