Received two silver Roosevelt dimes yesterday. A 1962 and 1963. Both received in change at the same store. I wonder if someone is spending their collection?

I don't think the mint melts the silver down like people think. Wouldn't they just sell the leftover silver eagles back to their vendor that supplies their blanks?

What metal composition could be used that won't ever get too expensive to make pennies? After changing the content in 1982 it didn't take too long before it was pushing costs and they started talking getting rid of the penny. I would miss Lincolns but just as 1/2 cents eventually they will become obsolete because of inflation.

I bet the problem is that too many people are employed by the mint! Automated systems would be more economical!

Aluminum cents would be cheaper and better than these zinc cents that corrode, bubble and disintegrate.

Getting rid of the cent and nickel means that everything you buy will go up to the next highest dime nobody will round down. Metal composition changes are a good idea for cost savings but the fact that the dollar is only as valuable as it is perceived and not backed by any other backing than faith,does that mean that the value is also worth less in terms of perceived value.

We used Steel Planchets once...different metals can be used. Maybe they're looking at the cost of actually making the coins (Labor costs).

I don't believe that is the true cost that they would save because fix cost have not been taken into account that is shared by all coins. The savings would be a how lot less sine we strike so many one cent .

why not take a lesson from history, produce lasar stamp currency to replace both the cent and the nickel.

Change the composition of the coins. Quarters, Halves and dimes didn't skyrocket after '64 neither will these coins. They'll just become worth metal value.

They should move the decimal point so our money makes sense. The dime will be the new penny.

So, as soon as I watched this, I went to my local bank and purchased two sealed boxes of nickels. They're machine wrapped, not sloppy customer wrapped. I just opened the box and all I'm seeing on the ends are 2021 and earlier mixed dates. No 2024 enders. I don't know a whole lot about how the banks acquires these boxes and who wraps them, but do you think I'm likely to pull any single 2024 coins out of this lot? Wouldn't it be more likely that a whole box of nothing but 2024 nickels would be delivered to the bank if there were going to be ANY 2024's at all?

After hearing this video....I am going to stop selling all of my rolls of 2024P and D nickels on eBay! Can't imagine the prices they likely will fetch if it is the final year and the low mintages! We thought prices were crazy a couple months ago...we ain't seen nothing yet IMO if this happens!

Getting rid of cents and nickels is an acknowledgement of inflation. Soon we will get rid of the one dollar bill, and then the five, then ten, etc. In both Weimar Germany and Zimbabwe, the final denomination before the currency completely collapsed was 100 Trillion Marks/Dollars respectively. It will take a while (years), but we will probably end up with a 100 Trillion dollar bill one day too.

I came across a 2025 P Jefferson two days ago which had a Lewis and Clark designed on reverse. I was surprised to see it so soon. A few Days ago, someone purchased one of my roles of 2024 Denver Nickels for $22. I am holding on to my last roll. I have been looking to purchase a roll of 2024 S Jeffersons, but can't find them anywhere. I think I have 32 left that have been selling on Ebay for over $18. Thanks for the video 😊

The expression spending a dollar to save a dime comes to mind. lots of hidden costs in recovery, transport,melt,, It does effectively become a tax in the poor. With the rounding up.. the customer making multiple purchases daily with cash, not so the person buying bulk once a week with a card. And charities could lose millions in donations with loose change. But as long as jarden zinc keeps buying breakfast with manila envelopes full of cash it'll be safe for now.😏

What will be interesting is if and when they stop making coins for circulation, and then they destroy all the coinage sitting in banks. The only surviving coins will be held by the people. Will that create rare coins?
