We have 2 metabolisms for a reason. We’ve evolved on both. During the summer and fall months, fruits growing on trees was an easy source of energy for us, and it was higher carb, less fat during these months. During fall and winter, when there was no fruit growing, we relied on eating animals, which is more fat and practically zero carbs. Both eating styles work well. Do them both.

@@blacksmithie It's weird. I've had it drilled into my head that carbs are bad, but I've got all the signs of a slow COMT gene, which would make a high protein diet about the worst thing I could do. I've added fruits, veggies and really high quality sourdough bread (no seed oils) back into my routine, and the dopamine spikes are going away. I didn't know that's what they were, but after a yummy plate of bacon and eggs? I would get super hyper and then tank. For a while, I thought it was blood sugar, but now I know it was dopamine and adrenaline. Crazy how genetics and epigenetics can play a role as well. :) I do miss bacon and eggs, though. Carnivore includes fat. More fat than you think and ate. A good starting ratio is 20% of your calories to be protein and 75%-80% fat derived. If your body doesn't need it it will pass through. This is the biggest mistake people make when attempting carnivore.
Protein is for repairing and building cells, fat is for energy. Eating carbs is providing a source of fat with an extra step between you and the fat your body wants. ( Carbs are packaged as lipids [fat] and stored or used and if your body wants glycogen (sugar) it can convert it from the fat)
It would still be carnivore and give the same results if you ate more fat but your filling that role with carbs.
This is an explanation of why carnivore didn't work as you expected not a demand on how anyone should eat.

    • @carascottvo

@@btwbrand No, I met with Stephanie Person, and we talked about that and I upped my fat for a couple of months, thinking that was key. When I got my gene DNA test back, I realized that I can’t have mass quantities of protein or fat at one time. I’m a slow methylator, so I can’t take all that fat. Like I said, to each his own. For the record, when keto dieters talk about low carbs, they're talking about low NET carbs, fiber carbs or "slow carbs" as you put them, are essential to the ketogenic diet. They are not counted towards your total carbohydrate count when determining your "low carb" status. So if to be in keto you needed under 30g net carbs, you could still eat 30g of fiber a day, and still have enough room to have another 29g of "fast carbs" and still be in ketosis, even though your "total carbs" are at 59g. I’m done with this shit, I’m gonna order an extra large pizza with 10 toppings, one extra large root beer, and 4 double double burgers from In N Out. I’m done. We’re all gonna die one day anyway

My intake of carbs is around 400g a day. I have at least a year on it and since I started to sleep very well. But if I mix it with too much fat, around 90 g, glucose oxidation will not be as efficient. To increase glucose oxidation you must take a big supplimentation of vitamin B3 and B1, especially if you are coming from keto. People who get diabetes are not because they eat too much carbs or sugar, they just don´t have the ability to oxidize glucose efficiently, most probably because they have hypotyroidism and tyroid is responsible to use glucose and transform it to ATP, energy.

By switching to a low carb diet, your body doesn't need as much insulin, only enough to facilitate amino acid uptake (fatty acids don't require insulin to facilitate uptake) and a small amount for dietary sugars. compare beef liver to vegetables. look at the massive difference in bioavailable vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and amino acids. its ridiculous that some seriously think that vegetables are nutritious and are essential. indeed, replacing processed carbs with vegetables can be a good idea, but still, vegetables are NOT essential for human life. you can live just fine without them.

the thing that most people don’t understand is that They were eating them wrong, pasta can be eaten as an everyday meal if you do it right, ad example being careful at portion sizes, (60 - 100 grams), eating pasta made with whole wheat, with the bran and germ intact, and also being careful sauce with which you season the pasta, instead of fatty sauce full of cheese, cream, meat, season with a lot of fresh vegetables like tomatoes and others that add fresh flavor and provides fiber that slows down the absorption of the sugars.
Also all the people who thinks that pizza is unhealthy, is because they never had a real pizza.
Pizza can be made into a nutritionally sound meal, and it always has been that way, until it was ruined by chain restaurant trying to make it more “rich” and palatable by adding loads of fatty toppings.
if you make it smaller, only use whole wheat flour, don’t put a ton of caloric dense toppings, like a ton of cheese, salami, pepperoni, but instead you make an “ortolana” that is a pizza topped with tomato sauce and vegetables, that way a pizza can also be enjoyed once or twice a week without issues.
So you just need to cut on the sugary drinks, snacks, smoothies, all the starbuck things, and start taking tea and coffe black or with non caloric sweeteners, instead of going all of the taliban way and and cutting all the carbs completely.
That was because you were eating them wrong, pasta can be eaten as an everyday meal if you do it right, ad example being careful at portion sizes, (60 - 100 grams), eating pasta made with whole wheat, with the bran and germ intact, and also being careful sauce with which you season the pasta, instead of fatty sauce full of cheese, cream, meat, season with a lot of fresh vegetables like tomatoes and others that add fresh flavor and provides fiber that slows down the absorption of the sugars.

And keto can make you loose some weight on the short term, but should implemented as a lifestyle, since it is not sustainable on the long run and continuously going on ketosis is not healthy either, and it should be done for 2 - 3 weeks maximum.
For example The people living in places like the Mediterranean area, Japan and other, have an high fiber, high carb, low saturated fat diet, that are the places with the highest life expectancy, and lowest level of obesity and cardiovascular disease, with a diet based on fresh vegetables, whole grains, proteins primarily from fish and vegetables sources and monounsaturated fats from extra virgin olive oil that are actually good for hearth health and omega 3 from fatty fish that are good for coronary health, also them in moderation of course since they are caloric as well.
The guidelines about the risks of saturated fats were based on Mediterranean dietary patterns, and they were technically right, but the problem was that people in North America didn’t adopted Mediterranean food patterns, so they didn’t work as intended and people on the internet started throwing crazy conspiracy theories as always.
But the problems were the consumers and the companies producing foods that misunderstood and misused them.
Basically in North America people already have the most meat intensive diet on the world, and all keto fanatics keep going around “i need more fat in my already extremely meat intensive diet” and have the wrong idea that every meal need to have meat otherwise “it’s not complete” while all over the world is also normal to have meal without meat or other animal products and considering them more occasional treats.
Also if you think about it, meat started becoming a staple of the everyday diet only after the advent of intensive farming in recent times, before that all meats, always have been very expensive treats.

i learned a bit about carbs in my anato/phys course, so this is just my basic understanding and a little tip. you have your carbohydrates explained as sugars; saccharides. you have your simple carbs (mono/disaccharides eg lactose, fructose) , and your complex carbs (polysaccharides, eg cellulose, glycogen). of course, carbs give you energy. simple carbs are *simple* for your body to break down, and give you short term energy in a high spike, which explains sugar highs. alternatively, you have your complex carbs, which require a more *complex* break down, which also takes longer and provides longer term energy. think of it like white bread and multigrain bread. now, as carbs are the primary source of energy in the body, we have to consume them to get energy (although i heard from someone that the whole thing about the keto diet is that you snuff out your carb intake so that your body switches to fat to get its energy from and burn it, but don’t quote me). the reason you need to be eating complex carbs over simple carbs is because it will sustain you longer, leading you to require less food and to feel fuller longer. if you take time to learn a bit about which carbs are better for you, you can capitalize on those calories and get your long lasting energy there, then use the rest of your daily intake to pack protein and healthy fats for muscle buildup and sustainment :)

That's not entirely true. Cutting calories doesn't guarantee weight loss. In fact, when you cut calories alone, your body reacts by slowing down your metabolic rate, purposely making it harder for your body to burn calories. It's a survival mechanism. Your body is effectively retaining the calories you're taking in longer to maintain a fuel source. For some, that means cutting calories to unsustainable levels.
The reason why a lot of people fail with calorie deficient diets is because they feel hungry all the time. Since low carb diets use fat directly as a source of energy, it's actually more sufficient at burning calories. Most low carb diets are not calorie deficient, yet they are proven to be a sustainable way to lose weight. That's because, when done right, low carb diets do not leave people feeling hungry.
You are right, people can't eat as they want, but it really isn't as simple as just calories/calories out.

I think one key point many people miss out on a keto diet is that the main point is to not spike up your insulin. But most people only focus on carbs only and not what KIND of carbs that make your insulin peak. On a keto diet, you can also eat carbs but it's important to focus on vegetables that have high amounts of net carbs (or you can also eat resistant starches). You can also combine the vegan and keto diet if you are a fan of both. It will be more restricting though. But overall in all honesty, people should just focus on eating more whole foods for a healthier lifestyle :)
