- Listen up as Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa and Matthew Wolff break down all things having to do with their wedge game. These top golfers cover the proper layup yardages, how they set up their wedge configuration (including why DJ games a 64° wedge), how they play bunker shots and shots around the greens, the importance of bounce and a whole lot more in this 9-minute discussion captured at the 2019 TaylorMade Golf Photoshoot. What's the one piece of info you're taking away from this conversation?

I have never seen DJ talk so much. He got some really good points.
lol same. he seems like a real genius
Dude had a 3.2 GPA I think but he’s just one of the boys
Yeh needed to have a cheeky spit every few sentences. Class
He is on Cocaine
@@qyfaz8657 lol average? Hes just trying to establish to the kids that hes alpha
Just want to say thank you for listening to the comments and putting out longer form discussion around these topics as well as the short cut clean information videos
Feel honored to get to hear these guys talk about such awesome technical details
This content is so good. More manufacturers need to follow in the footsteps of Taylormade in terms of getting their players talking about what they like and dislike about their game and equipment. Would be so good for the game as a whole.
the amount of cash they have into those guys im sure is staggering. I agree with your point, but very difficult to pull that off.
love these discussions. more please
"Its almost like a Driver how you have that forgiveness" - Jon Rahm. Only a pro would think a driver is a forgiving club
It has the largest face and sweet spot in your bag by a mile. It's just you're swinging it the fastest, so it's much easier to swing wild at it.
@@carsonwomack8053 Yes but another way to put it is if your face is 1 degree open or close to swing path the driver is more punishing. Even if you slow down your swing its still hard
Thank you Taylormade. These videos are awesome. Incredible info being offered from your Pro' s. Keep it up. Thanks again !
Good stuff TaylorMade. Time and time again these guys are always looking at making things as easy as possible on themselves. The difference between one or two shots is critical when winning championships against the very best in the world.
This is what we wanted Taylormade! Thank you guys!
Really enjoyed Wolff’s perspective on this one
Listening to these guys talk about golf is unreal. They know the game backwards, forwards, sideways, downside up and upside down.
It's amazing to hear their insight about yardage placement, spin, shot-shaping, and how their wedges play such a pivotal role in playing the shot that they prefer. I never knew that 50-yards was so undesirable for them, but it makes sense. Love to hear insight from DJ, Rahm, and Morikawa. Can definitely tell how methodical and detail-oriented these guys are about every aspect of their wedges. Also, I had no idea that DJ had a 64 degree wedge for shots around the green.
These videos are fantastic
The more I watch these, the more I realize these pros are geniuses at reducing their games down to the bare essentials.
Can y’all get mics that don’t make them sound like they’re underwater 😭
so much gold in this. e.g. hadn't thought about timing new grooves for different courses. makes so much sense though.
I fucking love these. We get to get hear what the top golfers in the world are thinking. TaylorMade, I'm buying a SIM driver just because you put these videos out.

Geez I need to learn so much more
Nice discussion.
Wow. Didn’t realize they didn’t like having it at 50 yards
I always knew that, but its good to always learn knew things. Reason being is you want to leave yourself with the easiest shot. In most situations 50 yards is REALLY hard to manage. Especially when most these greens have multiple factors they have to judge on top of it . They'd much rather be around GW or PW/9 Iron than 50 yards.
@Alexander Palmer for sure a factor. With really straightforward greens with simple speed greens(which 95% of courses are) that logic holds up.
@Alexander Palmer The other thing, my brother has always told me and he's a scratch golfer is that being able to do full swing is always easier than guessing half or 3/4 swing etc.
@Alexander Palmer That's very rare but a good problem to have. Much easier to improve on short irons than wedge play. Full swing with wedges just isn't going to happen with these pros. DJ can lob wedge from 75-85 yards with a 64. I can hit lob wedge normal swing 65-70 yards
@Alexander Palmer I think full shots are easier than half shots, that’s why they prefer 80-100 yards than 50 yards.
Very interesting.
Taylormade with great content wish other brands would take note
Wow! Where do all those wedges go to that get changed every few tournaments?
How many videos did they make that day???
"We all hit'em towards the toe" thank you DJ
Cliff Notes: Don't ever leave yourself with 50 yards to the pin. Instead, do it like a PGA Tour player and leave yourself with exactly 85.59 yards so you can swing a smooth 60 to within 8.5 inches of the pin. Easy!
Oh, THAT'S how you're supposed to do it. Christ, I've been playing it wrong all these years 😂

more of this
How about putting something together about playing in soft conditions. What if they’re a little steep on the day lol? I’m a okay player but once it gets soft I’m done, I cannot make good contact and start chunking shots like it’s going out of style. If someone could fix that I’ll be in good shape 👍🏾
You can tell by how the sounds are not perfectly matching up, the editor did it on final cut/iMovie.
This is alien to me. I find it easier to get it on the green the closer I am
Note to self: if you ever meet DJ and conversation is slow ask him about wedges.
In honesty i can open a 52 / 08 gap wedge to hit it high , can escape from the worse bunkers or punch and run a low one , moreover i only have one club to adjust distances . I have tried for days on end but cannot reliably flight anything higher than 56 and find all 56’s have to much bounce .
Good on taylormade for giving us these choices but to me a 60 degree wedge in hand is costing me shots for sure .
👍👍👍
I like to have my approach shots on the same hole.
I wish Titleist would do something like this. Been a Titleist guy for years but they're not evolving like these other companies.
I wish I could breakout saw fresh wedges on demand lol
Dj ALL DAY
For me, 50 is a good distance, because my 60 degree lofts in at 50 yds. I can see how it would be different for a pro...with a much stronger swing.
I want taylormade sim irons
Nothing feels like a mizuno
Can tell the FANS why the MAN TIGER not in this circle?
They thinking about all the different scenarios, I just hope and pray to at least get it on the green.. 😂
First
Chris Trott is a cool guy and all but I kinda feel like knowing about all those insane nuances with clubs and how they work with your swing would ruin casual golf for me
I get you want answers from the pros but come on.... asking them to explain bounce? I can hear Dustin's eyes rolling even with the bad audio lol
I'd argue most of the people watching these videos actually value that discussion lmao and I bet some of them don't even know what bounce is yet
@@shaggy7761 Probably yeah but asking a tour pro is cringe af. Just google it.
I know that they have to market but man its so annoying when they get these amazing players to talk about their thoughts and how they play and then ruin it by trying to advertise their clubs. Like shut up and let them talk
I feel this would be better with less pros. Hard to get a word in when they are all trying to talk over one another. 2 or 3 at most Pro's would be much more entertaining.
Why does john rahm look like desperate dan
Multi million dollar company and your audio sounds like someone whose doing a podcast for the first time because of coronavirus
Glad they left Rory out of this convo. He talks too much nonsense. When Dustin talks you know he’s spittin truth.
DJ spitting really pisses me off
Good
Taylormade probably spends soo much money on these videos and probably finds a way for 20 people to be on the production team and the audio was trash and these videos are cringy. Like how
