Gunning down random treasure hunters for no reason seems pretty far from neutral, the only "neutral" faction is the ecologists because they don't have a goal besides research, they don't pick fights and will only send someone else after you if you're purposefully being a massive threat to them.
@@snekans554 Mercs aren't really a faction as they work for different people and belong to different groups (That means, at some point, mercs might start killing each other)
My favorite faction, whereas you have to fit the mold of other factions (the rigid army style of duty, or the carefree hippie style of freedom) with the Mercs you're just an operator trying to make some cash. Working my way through the red forest in a pitch black night with my NVG's is some of the most fun I've had in STALKER.
Red forest. I'd rather have a match with Eidolon himself against his goons up north than go back to that hellhole. I remember going back home from retrieving a PDA from a missing group from Jupiter. Of course I have to go through red forest until I encountered three monolith patrols on the entrance near foresters lodge. Of course it was easy, well sort off. I'm bad at spotting things from the bushes. But I can manage after bleeding a few and a single nade. Till everything went fucky wucky. 21 strong. Monolith and Sin cultist fucks. Suddenly appeared. And no not just that. Include a fucking psy-storm. It sounds ridiculous but it will be more ridiculous after I finish my story. The psystorm and the 21 strong appeared after I killed the 4 bunch while looting. So yeah I was caught on to their ambush. It was a very confusing moment for me and as a merc I have to pipe down and collect my thought process so I can survive this. My actions is to sprint like hell towards foresters lodge and take refuge until the psy storm is gone. While I'm running I accidentally dropped my AK74U after taking a bullet around my right side. If my memory serves me right I left it behind the truck parked near the entrance tent. But I can't come back for it since its a life and death situation. As if leaving it makes my situation better. I made it to the foresters lodge. They start to pile in the entrance. I'm only left with an almost broken MP412 Rex and an SVD rifle I use for hit and run stealth kill contracts. Take note. I already spent most of my AP rounds. My aim Is shit. And thanks to the psy storm effect everything is all against my odds. You can keep knocking as much as you want on foresters door but since when did mercs and loners got along. I basically camped upstairs near foresters door. Even at that platform they can basically shoot me from peeking at the upper concave crevices near the door. The only seemingly blindspot for them is when they start to enter the doorway where a huge water tank infrontnof me blocks their view before accessing the stairs. I held my position on the upper stair case where I have the least chance to get pulverized by bullets while being still able to hit them with my SVD. I managed to slay a few thanks to my SVD. Some were persistent to the point they actually managed to climb the stairs by forcing their way in. But their resolve wasn't enough and all they got is a shot from my revolver. A night passed. My adrenaline ran out and my state is a current mess. I ran out of bullets. No meds either. Water all used up since using medicine gives you an affinity of hunger and thirst. I thought this is how I actually die but I'm proud I put up a good fight. But again. I'm still alive so why end it here. I still counted. 5 monolith and sin members left. The 4 was easy but the later was probably the decisive point. Its a monolith wearing an exo suit with a DOLG helmet. If I can recall I did also managed to slay some with exosuit but this one was different. During the night this was the guy who doesn't die at all no matter how much I shoot him with my SVD. but what's even the point. I have no ammo left. But of course no giving up. I switched to my melee holding a Gerber tactical tomahawk. Waited near the doorway for him to sneak a peek. The moment he entered I gathered all my must and gave him a good slicing he deserved until he dropped down to the ground in agony and finished my work. PS: I'm retarded. I just realized now that I can use their guns instead. But at that time I was panicking too much. So the tale continues. Its kinda boring so I'll sum it up. I looted their corpses. Dismantled their guns. ("I wasn't able to take it all home sadly and fuck forester for not letting me in and sell my loot). Encountered more monolith cunts like 4 of em near the gate. Probably from the bridge checkpoint I assume and killed them. Then before I made it out I have to outrun that massive ugly thing that stomps and shakes your camera. Made it home. Decided to not play stalker for a week since its too much to take in.
@geronimo yeah sounds absurd and its a miracle that I made it out. Nevertheless I got shot by a gauss rifle the next day and I have ironman mode on so there's that. My top 3 factions are -Mercs (modded, with only 2 neutral factions) -UNISG -Monolith More enemies - the better. Plus highest tech. Plus I just love how "radical" they are in their own ways: materialists thinking only about money, fanatics ready to kill and die for what believe in, cold and ruthless operatives and spies leaving no witnesses, serving something bigger than "country".
@@NcrXnbi I can't stand bandits and freedom both. Cons and junkies... There are no other groups lost as many members as these two, thanks to me. Literally, hundreds of patches...
Playing as UNISG gives the game an entirely different feel for me. Mercs are cool but they don't scratch quite the same itch as moving across the zone as an unsanctioned western blackops unit who can't afford to leave a single witness behind.
@@MintyLime703 exactly. No artifacts seeking, no mutants hunting, no stupid war between groups. Only the mission that must be completed. No massacres. I primarily do quests for the Mercenaries though. I just like the Mercenaries more. They're just a pain to play at first.
Fairly certain you can edit the game files quite easily to change faction stances and make loners/mercs neutral to one another If not then I've definitely seen a couple mods that do it for you
just turn on warfare, can change faction relations in game with your actions. Can even turn it back off once you are happy with the status, if that's your thing.

The way I play anomaly is that my first time installing the game I was a loner who got as far 5 million rubles selling artifacts and killing in the zone before I left. But like many successful stalkers I couldn’t leave the Zone. So I came back as a merc and sold my services to the highest bidder, occasionally helping new loners and letting them tag along as my squad, but murdering anyone else who got in my way.
It´s crazy.. I havent played those games in 10 years and I recognized some places in a heartbeat ~ I guess once a S.T.A.L.K.E.R., forever a S.T.A.L.K.E.R..
There's nothing I like more than putting holes into some godless sinner only treading their wretched footprints into the hollowed grounds of the Zone for the sake of greed. Mercenaries are just better armed bandits with a contract.
I started as a free S.T.A.L.K.E.R. with the mercenaries being my enemies. Then I realized all the jobs I've taken, the artifacts I've sold, the mutants I've hunted....it was all for cash. I AM a mercenary. The Zone is my job.

They sure looks like rick kids in the Zone, until I started a Merc character, Dead city was surrounded by enemies, Monolith by the North, Lab mutants and Loners by the the Sourth, Dooty and bloodsucker village by the East...It's a tough labor traveling in and out each part of the Zone alone, Mercs didn't have time care about anything, they're in a warzone where every bullet have their name on it.
Top tier gears required top tier money, after, all that left was only enough to afford daily consumption and a pack of cigarettes, skilled veteran yes, but to earn something they need to put their own life on stake, sometime maybe more, nobody go in and out of the Zone for free, you will leave a piece of you to the cold bitch we call the Zone, one way or the other
A mercenary is a proficient (ex)soldier hired to do a job because he's a pro. I doubt they are rich for no reason. And definitely not just rich kids.
@@installshieldwizard3017 If you picture the Zone as an ecosystem with its inhabitants, mercenarys are foreigns organisms more harmfull for the Zone than any bandits or even Duty members. But you're right, though. Everyone wants its share from the Zone. I still feel some kind of sympaty for the place, like a curiosity, untamed, full of mysteries.
I found long range gameplay always felt lacking. The AI only has a certain range, and there aren’t enough (or in my experience any) ways for it to counter you. I would have at least liked for the AI to scatter to cover or maybe drag their wounded comrades to cover… unless it’s monolith.
True, you can just cheese them from afar with an svd, they can see you but they need to be in a certain distance for them to actually start shooting.
Turn on helicopter patrols lol, anywhere where military is you've got to be pretty careful

@@P.K.Veiller so much of the urban terrain is canalized in a way that really hinders the AI, but it really is beautifully executed. theyll cover each other, fill gaps in their assault lines, flank, shift fire, and even cover each others reloads. every now and then, usually when youre too busy clearing a room, theyll make some really sound decisons. other times, theyre doing a conga line into your muzzle because theres only one hallway
proud to be a Merc, the best faction of Stalker, while they do alot of bad stuff and good stuff, they're pretty much are the "true neutral" alignment, and plus, in Anomaly they are neutral to 4 other factions that i like, Freedom, Ecologists, Clear Sky and Bandits
Wonder why they are not neutral towards loners. I remember seeing something like "Loners are easy pickings" but in Clear Sky, everyone knew you were a merc as well but didnt bother you.

Working my way through the red forest in a pitch black night with my NVG's is some of the most fun I've had in STALKER.
loner ftw
Moral of the story: fuck Red Forsest. Never go without a squad.
@Server Meta well...there goes my fucking stash.
@geronimo yeah sounds absurd and its a miracle that I made it out. Nevertheless I got shot by a gauss rifle the next day and I have ironman mode on so there's that.

just turn on warfare, can change faction relations in game with your actions. Can even turn it back off once you are happy with the status, if that's your thing.

2. Favorite another file, preferably one with a small file size. You can just upload a txt file of your own and fav that.

Precisely the same story here mate.
