He said he was worried that his parents my have to mortgage their home to pay for the lawsuit. I’m sure he has a bright future but I don’t think he comes from big money-his grandfather was a public servant, not some rich millionaire as far as I know

@@dano159 OP isn’t blaming him. When you have your grandfather as the former Secretary of State AND a member on the board of the company you’re trying to “whistle blow”, it isn’t really the turmoil he makes it sounds to be. His other colleague, Erica Cheung was being followed and harassed by Theranos’ legal team, she was scared to death and after talking to a “free” lawyer, she wrote an extensive letter that initiated the investigation, to me, what she did what far more courageous as she had no one to back her or cover her legal fees.

1000%. The investors didn't seem to care to vet Theranos. Just wanted to make $. Kissinger, one of the investors, has a genocidal legacy, specially bombing neutral Cambodia during the Vietnam War. He and the US govt installed the Khmer Regime that mass murdered ~3M Cambodians, targeting the educated, artists, and the like. I digress. But DeVos, another disgusting investor, former Sec of Education, no credentials, no brains, just there to get for-profit schools off the hook for defrauding students. These investors couldn't care less on the impact on people. Just money, power, and greed. They only pulled the plug because they wanted their money back or cut their losses. This case should have been US (for the people) vs Theranos and investors. Or Theranos vs Investors. No regard for life lost or could have been lost.

_But the justice system decided to prosecute based on the defuding [sic] of investors_ .
      *Wrong* .
Four of the counts against Holmes *were* for defrauding patients. She was *acquitted* of those counts by a low-information, low-intelligence jury. And now it seems that her defense lawyers are preparing to appeal based on the fact that the jurors convicted her with an improper understanding of how they were supposed to reach a verdict. *These are the very jurors that the defense picked* .
If anything wrong about the justice system has been exposed by this trial, it's that defense lawyers can pack a jury with idiots, then appeal a conviction because idiots were on the jury.

After the 2000 U.S. presidential election, David Boies also represented Vice President Al Gore in _Bush v. Gore_ and lost to opposing counsel Ted Olson. In 2009, both Boies and his former opposing counsel, Olson, joined forces in the lawsuit _Perry v. Brown_ seeking to overturn the state of California's Proposition 8 ban on same-sex marriage. In 2010, the District Court judge ruled in their clients' favor, finding Proposition 8 to be unconstitutional. On June 26, 2013, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the proponents of Proposition 8 did not have standing to challenge the ruling, allowing the District Court judgment to stand. absolutely not true. If you were out on bail, you would continue on bail unless the judge determined that your bail should be revoked and you should be remanded (which is unlikely or you would not have been granted bail in the first place). You would get sentenced at a subsequent sentencing hearing and probably given a date and time to surrender to the authorities at a date other than the sentencing hearing. There are plenty of people of all races that have received this same treatment. Just like there are plenty of people of all races who are fugitives for not appearing based on the terms of their bail. Injecting race where it is not applicable only serves to divide and inflame.

This has nothing to do with the prosecution wtf are you on about. There were several charges for defrauding patients .... since this is a criminal case, all is needed is ONE juror to vote no for that non-guilty verdict. Who knows why the jurors couldn't come up with an unanimous agreement for those patient charges ...
If I had to guess, it's probably because the case for defrauding investors was simply stronger from the evidence and testimonies. Holmes spent A LOT of time with current investors and potential investors and the deceitful things she did to keep them hoodwinked was undeniable. Holmes spent no time with patients.

I have been watching this Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos case since news broke regarding its false test results. I applaud Tyler Shultz for his integrity and his will to be a voice and advocate against bad science and its impacts to public health and safety, but unfortunately, at the cost to his professional and personal family relations. It must have taken a tremendous mental toll on him and the other Theranos whistleblower, Erika Cheung. I not only sympathize with these two individuals, I empathize with them. Unfortunately, there are more "charismatic" bullies like Holmes who pander these disinformation and unfounded science tactics to maintain annual cash flow and beat annual "earnings". This mentality is not relegated to the venture capitalist world like Silicon Valley. This mentality of "fake it until you make it" have infiltrated into the public/government engineering sectors as well. At least in this Theranos business arena, we are seeing the consequences of this "fake it until you make it" corporate mentality.

To those who are concerned that she will walk free please note that all her charges have a mandatory fine up to$250,000 ( I believe ?) so she could have to pay up to $1,000,000 and each charge carries a mandatory prison sentence of up to 20 years and and they are most likely to run concurrently, which means that if she were found guilty on ANY of the counts (even just 1) she would serve the same sentence as if she were found guilty on ALL the counts. Thus she will be sentenced to prison in the future, ( maybe 6 Months from now,) but until that time she is allowed to be out of custody. The reason being that: while a murderer or other extremely dangerous criminal to the community or public at large or someone who poses a flight risk would be taken into custody, immediately after a guilty verdict, an individual who does not present a danger or threat to the public is often allowed to be out until sentencing happens. EH is restricted from engaging in any investing and most likely has other restrictions placed upon her, and if she were to attempt to flee before sentencing, or does not abide by said restrictions, she would absolutely be taken into custody immediately and could then face additional punishment or harsher sentencing. The judge and the Prosecutors obviously don't believe that she poses a threat to the community or public at large, or that she is considered a flight risk, so she is allowed to be out of custody until sentencing happens. In my opinion, Ms. Holmes should use the time to educate herself about life in prison so she can survive the time she will serve behind bars.

Tyler's grandfather sounds like an arrogant, entitled, delusionally communal narcissist who is unwilling to apologize, and for that reason, I feel so badly for Tyler. Tyler put EVERYTHING on the line here: not just his job and livelihood, but his family relationships (and they were telling him to let it go because the grandiose grandfather wanted to sweep this under the rug).
George Schultz's uber-fragile-ego is why Holmes was able to do what she did. George Schultz was the person who VOUCHED for her all along, and then arrogantly recruited all that wealth (of other narcissists) and "power" to back someone and something of ZERO substance.
Tyler Schulz's moral character is the shining beacon in this parade of narcissists who were too busy feeling self-important to truly examine and question the veracity of Holmes' claims, and then when warned and provided the evidence, then wanted to SWEEP IT UNDER THE RUG.
George Schulz should be horribly ashamed of his lack of integrity and absence of moral character, and WORSE STILL his unwillingness to apologize to his own grandson who was willing to risk everything to expose the charade and elucidate the truth.
What an indelible STAIN on what could have been an amazing legacy and story of redemption (for George Schultz). Instead, George Schulz will now be remembered as having been the egotistical lynch-pin that allowed this psychopath to get the media attention, power, and funding for this con artist to perpetrate this scam.
A refusal to apologize in the face of this unbelievable SCAM that cost so many people so much......
...and of course, George Schulz has been dead for eleven months, and instead of a legacy of public service, now has a legacy as a rigid, egotistical, sweep-the-truth-under-the-rug-to-save-face narcissist.
We need to stop EXCUSING narcissists, and start holding them ACCOUNTABLE for their arrogance.
Psychopaths will ALWAYS win as long as we allow narcissist to ascend to power in the world. They work hand-in-hand, along with sociopaths, to destroy the fabric of society.
May Tyler Schulz be rewarded for his STRENGTH OF MORAL CHARACTER, his perseverance, and his commitment to integrity.

The thing I have noticed missing in all the discussion of Theranos and Holmes is that it just wasn't that she defrauded a lot of investors for a lot of money. But also think of all the
true good that money could have done in real time to people. Paid for surgeries, set up free clinics, funded real research that could really help people. This debacle couldn't have
happened if we really cared about good healthcare in this country. People would have taken a closer look, really scrutinized her idea if the important part of it was actually helping
people. Instead, what was really important was a bunch of rich people trying to find the next start-up that would make them even more filthy rich. That is the heart of healthcare in
America - money. Make money - spend money. Money, money, money. The snake on the Rod of Asclepius should be replaced with a dollar sign.
