21 years old with 4 y ncb and I did an insurance quote on this car and it was £1240, which I find is really good, giving that it has 300bhp! living in the north east area. Was deciding on either getting this or the M140i, but looking at running costs and insurance, the Golf R is the far better option, especially considering its AWD! Great video mate, really informative!
It never fails to make me chuckle when I see Suburu Imprezza’s, M2’s, Golf R’s etc dawdling along nursing the accelerator and being overtaken by vans and Peugeot 105’s, lorries and scooters. Yes you might be able to get 300 miles out of a tank but you’d be going at at constant 45 mph to achieve that on the flat. The lighter 7.5 performance gti can do 80 - 90 all day and get over 40 mpg and 350 miles per tank easily. In the real world the gti performance is faster than the R, the R is too heavy carrying around 15 stone extra for the all wheel drive system which is only used about 5% of the time unless you’re in a Scandinavian type climate.
Donut media showed us how bad steering locks are lmao they just ripped it off with man power, I’m getting one in 2 months without the fancy keyless entry (don’t want that) but still gonna fit a kill switch in there just not sure what’s a good hiding spot till I have the car
Have a mk7.5 R, 67 plate, insurance for me and the Mrs was £330 with a multicar policy. Disklok used & stored in a garage in London, 42 y old, 25 years no claims.

Thanks for the compliment Sean. I found the 140i to be ridiculously higher on insurance. You made a good choice
One of the best videos on UA-cam describing the golf r costs. Thanks!
Thank you sir!
I have mk7 R as well, my insurance was 450 quid, but I'm 31 with 10 years no claims.

are the service prices doing it yourself or just for parts? are you also paying trade price for parts or getting your arse stretched from the dealer?
These are all dealer prices, where they supply & carry out the work.
