Completely agree with all the comments acknowledging Vinnie's playing on this. Incredible fills, exemplary musicianship, phenomenal groove and he doesn't repeat himself once as far as I can make out.
I liked this a year ago, i am now back on the same video just to watch Mr Colaiuta. My Dad told me for years, didn't listen... then i seen this and understood, a true lesson in dynamics, style, technique and groove.. the guy has it all
Yowsa, the explosion at 3:29 is absolutely glorious, cameraman you missed the start but what a sound, the Vinnie man on full attack. He's so great to watch such a great body language on the kit, what a master.
there are many insane drummers, and in music in my opinion there is no such as best!! butt vinnie is a different story,HE IS THE BEST OF THE BEST en every one who doesnt like it has no understanding about music/drumming
@ 4:06 - "...think I'll hit this snare; then I'll hit the china and the snare on the way down (making a china/snare flam)." Just another day of genius from VC.
I mean, the playing is extraordinary, but what I notice most is it’s pre mad scientist hair phase. Weckl went through it too. Manopause? The hair thins on top, so you grow the rest long for some reason?
AllenSJ5 As a drummer, I can honestly say that Stewart plays this much better, as much as I absolutely love Vinnie, Stewart playing this with The Police is beyond incredible
Good but the three piece sounded better , a lot better. The tension youth and energy they had back then just delivered a red hot raw sound we wont hear again , sticking on Regatta as i type !!!!!
Copeland not only has a better drum sound then and now (although VC's sound is usually flawless) but VC doesn't know what to contribute to the song of his own to make it better. Copeland simply did it better.
The way Vinnie fully understands and interprets a piece of music is just world class. An endless pleasure to see and listen to this!
Colaiuta!!!!!

Fucking Vinnie is the greatest drummer ever no joke u can put that man with anyone n he'll play perfect no matter what kind of music
Vinnie Colaiuta : LIKE A BOSS
I liked this a year ago, i am now back on the same video just to watch Mr Colaiuta. My Dad told me for years, didn't listen... then i seen this and understood, a true lesson in dynamics, style, technique and groove.. the guy has it all
The Boss is Sting😊
Oh man, Vinnie!
Vinnie.... gotta love it!!
Got to respect Sting. He knows how to pick drummers. Vinnie never gets in the way of the song and its still just over the top awesome!
Yowsa, the explosion at 3:29 is absolutely glorious, cameraman you missed the start but what a sound, the Vinnie man on full attack. He's so great to watch such a great body language on the kit, what a master.
Then the Lord said let there be Vincent !!! Amen!
+Eugene DeRose :-D
Oh Vinnie!
Vinnie is killing it
Vinnie incroyable.
The bass drum at 2:53, way too classy, Don Vincenzo...
1:28..Love that hihat phrase there!
That's some intricate drumming right there
Whooahhh!!! VINNIE!!!!
Our Vinnie, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.....
there are many insane drummers, and in music in my opinion there is no such as best!! butt vinnie is a different story,HE IS THE BEST OF THE BEST en every one who doesnt like it has no understanding about music/drumming
Amen.
Jonathan Rayos yes!!!!
This is true , hard to pick someone over him
Yeah true words, but I do love each of Josh Freese's, Copeland's & Vinnie's takes of this song.
as good and unique as Stuart Copeland is....then there is Vinnie !!
Vinnie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So cool.
Vinnie colaiuta wow
Am I the only one who spent fuckin 30 minutes watching over and over again the china-snare hit at 4:07?
Tomasz Zagorski not anymore ... I missed it but I like it.
nope I do too. It's so simple yet I'd never come up with it in a million years.
uh...nope
@@mariemyers6747tell us you didn’t get it without telling us you didn’t get it
VINNIE!!!!
tellement bon!
Vinnie. Just. Vinnie.
VINNIE!!! LEGEND!
Here's the evidence: 2:04 to 2:35 + 3:29 (!) to 4:00...
I keep coming back to that second section. how cool is that starting fill???
Owwww, 2.04 so nice.
1:22 crash/tom flam. only vinnie.
Vinnie è la prova dell’esistenza di Dio!
@ 4:06 - "...think I'll hit this snare; then I'll hit the china and the snare on the way down (making a china/snare flam)."
Just another day of genius from VC.
Saw that aa well...increadible
Right, that´s so cool!
6 years later I was about to make the same comment and then I found yours! That's one of my favorite moments in an incredible performance.
I mean, the playing is extraordinary, but what I notice most is it’s pre mad scientist hair phase. Weckl went through it too. Manopause? The hair thins on top, so you grow the rest long for some reason?
Only Vinnie could play Stewart Copeland's songs better than Stewart. Jesus Christ....
He does not play this song better than Stewart...lol
AllenSJ5

+1 forVinnie , as crazy as it might seem , he does actually play the song a lot better than Stu. More feel , style
@@scothenderson7959 but he does LOL !!
Vengo a ver al maestro y Dios de la batería, Vinnie Colaiuta 😊
Well, so much for the Ludwig /Colaiuta partnership.. At least he's still with Paiste..
is he back with gretsch?
aadrum77 Heuer custom drums I believe
Good but the three piece sounded better , a lot better. The tension youth and energy they had back then just delivered a red hot raw sound we wont hear again , sticking on Regatta as i type !!!!!
Friggin' ridiculous.
Now I just don't know who's the best drummer Sting has played with...
They all are REALLY great, I talk about Stewart with Police, then Omar Hakim, Manu Katché and Vinnie Colaiuta, that's it.
Wow, I didn't know Andy Summers wears long hair and sideburns now ...
Copeland not only has a better drum sound then and now (although VC's sound is usually flawless) but VC doesn't know what to contribute to the song of his own to make it better. Copeland simply did it better.
Stewart would have a respectful coronary if he saw Vinnie shed this song so magnificently
What the heck is he drumming ? This Sound like a solo with backround music. I cant see any reagge feel... Only fast 16 triplets.
If you think you're only hearing "fast 16 triplets", then what he's playing is waaaaaay beyond your drumming knowledge.
