This is the best knitting tutorial I’ve ever used, I keep coming back to it even when I’m making different stuff because it is the clearest demonstration, particularly of reducing and finishing, that I have found! Thank you!
I'm honestly surprised this doesn't have more views. I was looking for a pattern for this for AGES and your video came at the right time. Can't wait to try your pattern,
I‘ve now completed my very first beanie! I cast on 100 stitches, knitted 52 rows of 1x1 ribbing and after that, started decreasing. I switched to double pointed needles after the third decrease row. I do recommend taking the initial stitch marker out when decreasing but I put 1 (in total 4) stitch markers in between the ssk and k2tog, that just makes it easier. I find the beanie to be a bit short for my liking, I will do 60 rows of rib next time and maybe cast on 120 for a looser fit. I ended up not using all 50 grams of worsted weight. All in all a really good-looking beanie and great tutorial, thanks! I like all of your diy apparel.
Thank you! just started knitting, finished the hat, but lets just say it took alot more time than 3 hours. I've been wearing it all day (indoors and outdoors)
For anyone who's dumb like me and had to undo the hat several times while following the written pattern instead of the video, I wrote it out to be idiot proof :') -Cast on 100 sts onto a 16" 4mm circular needle with worsted weight yarn -knit 7 inches in k1p1 ribbing -knit 21 (in k1p1 ribbing!) ,k2tog, ssk, repeat until end of row -knit20 (in k1p1 ribbing!), k2tog, ssk, repeat until end of row knit 19, k2tog, ssk, etc...for this part just play it by eye -once it gets tight, switch to 4 4mm double pointed needles -When you can't decrease anymore (10 st) cut your yarn and pull the end through the remaining stitches, tie off the tail on the inside and weave in all ends.
What do you mean by “repeat until end of row?” Do you mean k1p1 for 21 stitches, and do a k2tog for the 22 and 23 stitches, then ssk for the 24th and 25th, then stitch 21 k1p1, then k2tog 22 & 23, then ssk 24 and 25? Are y’all using stitch markers? I feel like that helps but I’m just making sure I get the count right. :-)
@@TCherice Yeah I used a stitch marker and just repeated the pattern until the end of each row. Not sure if that's great to do, but it worked for me and my hat looks nice :)
It's good to have someone continental on UA-cam. Usually, when I watch knitting tutorials, I only see people do the English method. I knit continental because I learned how to crochet before I learned how to knit and because I got so used to holding the yarn in my left hand rather than the right, I learned how to knit continental.
Yeah, I learned first with my right hand because I didn't know you could use your left hand. Then I learned to crochet and got used to it in my left hand and made the switch just like you. It's always good to know both though.
Yeah. I agree. I actually use the English method when I strand colors in the middle of a row because I find my tension is much looser but when I'm knitting regular colors or striping two colors I knit continental.
Its so comforting to have a teacher that is ambidextrous. As a student its very difficult to be expected to do everything right handed. I ambidextrous too but I go by feel, what feels better as I am working. ❤
Thank you so much for this! I learned to knit with this video and the ones you linked (and some help from my girlfriend). I'm at my 3rd beanie now, not a single dropped stitch this time.
I have two answers. I actually used a 4.5mm needle and mistakingly said 4mm in the video, that's been updated in the description. Also I always use the metric number since it's more standard-4.5mm is a number 7 US.
I need some help! I love the pattern but don’t get the part where you say to move the stitch marker to the left one stitch. What happens to that one stitch? Is it counted in the next decrease row 19 stitches or do I just slip it? Or is it just a random stitch that I knit and doesn’t count towards any of the sections?
Hello! Thank you so much for this video. I was looking for an easy beanie pattern and this was the video that caught my eye. I made one for my brother; casted 116 stitches and kind of freestyled the decreases without really counting because that was easier. I took me a little while to understand the right way to do it, but the beanie turned out great and my brother loves it!
I've just completed a beanie using this pattern and I love it, thank you so much!! I started with 104 stitches as well and just wanted to let you know that it's actually 22 stitches in the first row of the decrease, not 21 as you wrote in the new pattern (I just thought maybe you'd want to correct it). But otherwise it's perfect I really appreciate it:)
Hey, the revised pattern actually has a purl inbetween the decreases and so 21 is correct for 104 sts. 5 sts per corner x 4 =20. 104-20/4= 21. Glad you made it work for you though.
Okay, so, let’s talk about this purl stitch in the middle of the decrease in the updated pattern. Do we need this? What does it do? And if we didn’t add the purl, each decrease would only take 4 stitches, right? So we’d need to subtract 16 instead of 20 to get the decrease frequency for four corners. Right? But I’m getting close to my first decrease round and I’m not sure how to proceed. To purl or not to purl?? Please advise. THANK YOU! Your chill demeanor makes me feel so empowered to do this hat. 🖤
I always meant to add the purl because the hat in the thumbnail had it, but when I went to film the video I accidentally got confused and skipped it. It's all preference but I like the purl because I feel like it gives each decrease corner a direct straight line which I like the look of. I'm glad I give off a chill demeanor :)
@@Corduroykidd😢 do you think you could show us the new version? I’m so confused, keep redoing the decreasing row but didn’t get the effect shown on ur video. So the second decreasing row should be : knit 20, k2tog p1, ssk then knit 19, k2tog ….. ? Thanks… I’m a beginner and this will be my first beanie
@@kungfu740 I don't feel that remaking the video would be any more helpful. It's exactly the same, just with a purl thrown in. Did you cast on 104 Sts? You need the extra 4 sts if you're doing the middle purls. And yes what you described above is correct. The numbers with go down by 2 every round with an extra st at the beginning. You can move your stitch marker over one each round if that is less confusing. 21, 19, 17, 15, etc. Dm me on Insta if you need further help.
Thank you for the video. I was really looking for such a pattern to make my first beanie and it made me feel brave enough to start. Can I ask you that how would it work if I would like to knit it with a yarn for 2,5 mm needles? Thank you very much!
Hi! So, you'd have to do a swatch to see how many stitches you have across 10cm/4 inches. Then, depending on the hat size you want, you'd multiply the amount of stitches you have for 4 inches by the amount of inches you actually need. e.g. the pattern calls for 20st across 27 rows for 10x10cm, but your yarn needs 35st across 10cm, so you'd multiply your 35st by 5 for a 20 inch hat. You see what I mean? It's maths! (and I do hate maths). It's entirely doable, you'll just need a bit more yarn and a lot of patience! Your decreases should work the same, too. Goodluck!
Hi, thank you for your tutorial. It’s very nicely done. I just didn’t understand how many stitches before you started doing the reduction? Could you please help out? Thanks again.
Hi, I actually put the pattern in the description for reference. You knit 21 sts before each 4 st decrease in the first round plus one extra stitch at the end of the round. Then the next round is knit 19, dec, etc. Hope that makes sense.
You should do whatever the next stitch is. It will change every round so I can't really answer that. You continue the ribbing pattern the entire hat. Just do your best and if you mess up once or twice it's not that obvious.
I wish you would have told us what to do after you do the decrease row. Do you just continue doing decreases each row or do you decrease then knit 1x1 a row?
I made a first hat but the decrease kind of looped around and I made a bunch of other mistakes haha. I’m trying again but just wanna get it right.. I have 120 stitches in total so I need to decrease every 25 if I understand correctly.. Does it matter if the k2tog / SSK comes after/ before a knot or a purl? Also, I read somewhere in the comments that you end up with one stitch extra.. I’m confused - does that mean that when you finish one line and get back to your marker, you should knit one stitch then start counting on the second stitch (25, 23, 21, etc...). Thank you :)
Hi, so 116 /4 is 29 but the double decrease takes 4 sts so your number is 25. Knit 25, decrease. I've realised that you have to knit one extra stitch every row for the pattern to work so the next round will be 23, decrease etc.
im kinda confused, in the vid you say to add increases of 4 if you want it bigger, but in the description you say to add 8 stiches each inch. So if my head is 24 inches it would be 132 inches? Or would it be more or less.
Sorry for the confusion. Yes 132 would be right for 24" but the hat stretches a lot by design so keep that in mind. I'd probably make it 124 and let it stretch but it's up to you. Thanks for watching.
I just stumbled across your tutorial and absolutely love it! however, I have 5mm needles instead of 4mm, do you think it will still work if I used the 5mm needles?
it might be a bit looser, but it should be okay. It depends on how you knit. If you knit loosely that might not work out, but if you knit average or tight it should be fine.
I've never really seen a good knit bucket hat. I had plans to design a crocheted bucket hat if that would interest you. Knitting is just too flimsy to get the right shape while crochet is pretty rigid and stiff when you need it to be. Thanks for watching ⭐️
I guess I didn't say in the video. I used a worsted weight yarn. I bit thinner than Aran. Because of the shaping if you use too thick of yarn the decrease channels will be very sharp and rigid.
hello!! Im struggling to follow the decrease pattern. I've cast on 120st so I did 120/4 = 30 30-4= 26 i knit/purl 26 stitches and k2tog,ssk repeated until the end of the row. Second round decrease I did 24 stitches knit/purl , then k2tog,ssk third round decrease 22 stitches knit/purl, then k2tog, ssk and so on, but it doesn't give me you same ribbing pattern... ? could you help me please? I really like your finishing!!! thanks :)
It should! Be aware there's an extra st at the end of the round because of the math, so if you can, just wing the decreases without counting the stitches. To maintain the rib pattern all you have to do is follow what's already there before and after the decreases. good luck.
Hi I'm about 5 rows in of the decreasing part of the pattern and realized that my ribbing isn't lining up. I noticed in the video sometimes you purl after the ssk and other times you knit. I was wondering how you know when to do which stitch to line up the ribbing? Thank you so much! Love the hat so far!
Hi, I just assess it by eye. The decreases are always going to be knit and then the stitch after could be a knit or a purl, it alternates per round. I don't know if that's helpful but I can't think of a better way to put it.
Hiii, so wait after when i‘m at the stitchmarker the first time i have to pretend like two stitches are one stitch, right?… but after that it is not 100 stitches anymore because i lose 2 8or 4 become 2). So do i just continue with those 98 stitches until i get the 7 inches? Or did i do smthng wrong? Or do i have to do that every round? I‘m a little confused😅 4:36
Sorry for the confusion. You should have 100 or 104 Sts depending on which version of the pattern you're following. I joined the round by knitting the first stitch with both strands of yarn, so it looks like two stitches but it's not. It's a single stitch. That's what I was talking about when I said knit them together as one stitch. Your stitch count shouldn't change until the decrease rounds.
Hiii! I finished my first beanie and it looked super cute but my decreases where not straight, they were going like a twirl. So I started a second one and I just started the decreasing part and I paid more attention but they're still coming out in a twirl way even though I'm doing exactly what you mentioned in the tutorial 😭 Do you know what I could be doing wrong? The number of the stitches is the same, and I'm doing k2tg, purl 1, ssk. At this point I just don't understaaaand
I’m so confused on the decreasing part. Are you separating your decreases into 4 even parts, as in 4 sections of equal number stitches for the knit 2 together and then the slip slip stitch or just kind of winging it? I am new to knitting and have only knitted one hat before and it was a decrease only every other row. Once we get to decreasing, is it a decrease every single row? Do you use stitch markers to break up your four sections?
Also, you said you tried to get one of the decreases on each DP needle. Am I wrong or doesn’t it matter where you are putting your decreases? I’m just confused overall. :-(
Yes the decrease points are divided by 4 equal sections as laid out in the description. It's 100 sts divided by 4 is 25 minus the 4 sts of the first decrease round is 21 sts. Of course you can use markers if you want to, that might make it easier for you. I'm just used to recognising it with my eyes. Also yes you decrease every round until the top of the hat closes. I try my best to get a decrease on each dp needle, but you'll have to move stitches around because it's not perfect. Just try your best :) Hope that all makes sense.
Gauge is 6.25 stitches to the inch in ribbing and 7.5 rows per inch. The pattern is in done in multiples of 8. Because of the ribbing you'd take your head measurement minus 4 inches and multiply by gauge and then choose the closest multiple of 8.
I'm on my second row of decreasing and knit 20 stitches before the first decrease on that row but I've come to my next stitch marker and there's only 19 stitches before I need to decrease? Not sure if I've done something wrong or if that's fine?
You've done it right :) For some reason the math adds an extra st to the start of every row. So even tho the number of sts for each row goes down by 2 there will be an extra st at the start. Thats why I just take the marker out and knit by eye.
Unfortunately that doesn't really work with my pattern since it's in 1x1. I made a hat once by Petiteknit that was 2x2 like you were wanting. Maybe check that out instead. They placed their decreases on each side of a 2 St knit column.
I love this model !! But I have a few questions because I'm not a brilliant beginner hahaha. I cast on 114 stitches and now I don't know how to divide by 4 because it's odd, how many stitches do I have to work before k2tog and ssk? And than in the second round? In addition I would like the total length (including decrease) is 9 inches, how many inches should I work before decreasing? Thank you so much in advance❤️❤️
Hi, can I ask why you cast on 114 sts? The pattern only works with multiples of four or eight. You could do 108 or 112. For the first round of decrease 8 sts are decreased which equals 16 sts total in that first round so, 112-16=96/4=24. So the first decrease round you would work 24 sts between each "corner" of decreases. Also my hat was around 8 inches long in total, so if you want a 9 inch hat just knit 8 inches of ribbing instead of 7 like I did. so Hope that helps and makes sense. Good luck :)
sorry I missed the answer!😢 I casted on 114 because I’m stupid, I didn’t check the stitches in the pattern and I made a sample 10 stitches for ten round for measures it and than I based my stitches cast on on this, but it’s stupid hahah If I want to use the markers how should I do? Thank you very much for your kindness and attention❤️
Hi, yes you can, 108 is divisible by 4 so it works, 108 - 16 /4 = 23. So for the first decrease round you'd knit 23 sts before each decrease block. Also I believe I knit 7-8 inches before I started decreasing. Depends on how much cuff you want.
Hi there I was reading your pattern and I think I may have done something wrong, but when you start to decrease from 21 to 20 etc, should a stitch be included that hasn’t been K2Tog?
hi, sorry, I didn't explain it very well in the video. In the first round it should be knit 21, then the 4 st dec. Every round after that there's an extra st at the end of the round. Then it should go 19, 17, 15, etc smoothly.
Each decrease point takes 4 stitches decreasing 2 at each point. On the next round after the extra 1 stitch you should knit 19 and be back at the first decrease again. I can't say why you're 6 stitches short. You're decreasing 8 stitches a round so after the first round you should have 92 if you started with 100.
@@Corduroykidd I see. I decreased to 20 on the second round but I should have done 19 which would be 92 stitches. Thanks. I didn't watch the video and just read the pattern in it and it confused me I guess.
Im a little confused, new to knitting. So after the 7 inches of just the normal 100 stitches, you stitch for 21 and then do the decrease? But how many stitches do u do after the decrease?
Hi, so for that round you would knit 21, k2tog, ssk (which takes 4 stitches) and then you'd repeat that all again by knitting 21 sts and decreasing again. You'll repeat it four times in a round.
I was looking for this pattern for ages but... Is there an option for such a pattern but crochet? I saw your pattern for a red cap but it has a different finish at the top
I am hoping to create this hat with Sandnes Garn Alpakka (DK yarn) in size 3.5 mm circular needles. Do you think this is doable? I am wanting to knit for a someone with a head circumference of 22.5 inches. How many stitches should I cast on for that in the 3.5 mm?
You'd want to knit a guage swatch first to find how many stitches you get in an inch and then you can multiply that by your head size to get a st number. It has to be even and divisible by 4 tho
@@Corduroykidd I was on the decrease portion of my hat and ended up completely f***ing up… had to start completely over. I couldn’t eyeball it due to using a DK yarn on 3.5 mm needles… I’ve read a couple of the comments regarding decreasing, as well as your own, but do not understand. I have 156 cast on, which would mean 35 knit, then my k2 etc until end of row. Like you said, the math doesn’t add up. I’m very unsure as to how to continue and/or even remake this hat? Also, in the decrease portion am I going each row down by two? Ex. 35, 33. 31, 29… or am I going 35, 34, 33, 32… etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m trying to finish this hat for Christmas.
@@matteacolumpsi4079 Yes it would go down by 2's so 35, 33, 31, etc. You can count if you want, you don't have to eyeball it, just add one extra st at the beginning of the round after the first decrease round. So, knit 34, then on the rest of the round knit 33. Hope that helps.
It's a lot harder to do it that way but you could try knitting it flat and then sew up the back. The decreases might be a bit different though. Might have to just try another pattern or get some circular needles.
hey i love the tutorial! idk why, but when i decrease, i can’t get them to form a straight line and they instead lean to the right even though i’m trying to knit 2 together and follow it w the slip slip knit. any tips? thank u!!!!
hhhm, I can't see why it would lean to the right if you're doing a k2tog and then a ssk. Maybe make sure you're doing a ssk correctly? There's a reference video in the description. Sorry I can't be more help.
@@Corduroykidd I watched the video a lil more closely a few more times and got it! I've made three of them already! Thanks so much for the great pattern :)
There are 4 decreases at the top of the hat so you'll knit 21, then do the 4 stitch decrease and then knit another 21 sts and do it a total of four times for that round. Then the next round is the same except you knit two stitches less between each decrease, 19, 17, etc. If you're using a stitch marker there is one extra stitch at the beginning of every decreases row except for the first one. Don't know why, it just is if you're counting them out.
Not really. You could try and knit it flat and sew it up the back but it's complicated because of the decreases and you can't knit it in a round because it would be way too stretched out.
Do you mean the decreases or the rib? I was serious when I said that I say knit and purl out loud the whole time I'm knitting so I don't mess up. Sometimes Ive done whole rounds and not realised it and had to rip it out. For the decreases, just make sure that you're counting out each one. You can add stitch marker right before each one also if that would be helpful. Good luck
@@Corduroykidd Not sure if it's something you can explain in writing but how would you rip out a row of stitches in the round? I messed up at one point, and was gonna try and salvage it but couldnt figure out how to mark my place in the round so I'd know how many rows I had ripped out... What's your approach in a case where you need to rip out a row or two? Thanks in advance!
@@ExcuseMeMAM12 If it's only a round I put my needle back in the old stitches and painstakingly unknit what I just did. If it's more than that you can take the needle out and rip it but it's more risky if you don't know what you're doing. If you have a marker in place you can rip out one round at a time by ripping until your marker if it's the exact first stitch. Hope that makes sense.
Great video! Very helpful! Until.... "Knit 20, k2tog, (...)". What am I supposed to knit 20 of? Sitches? But surely the "in takes" has to go around for one round no? Help a knitter out!!!
For the first decrease round you knit 21 stitches, then k2tog, then ssk, then repeat that three more times for a total of 4 decrease points. Next round knit 19 or until each decrease and do it again.
@@Corduroykidd thanks for such a snap reply! I didn't do 100 to begin with as my head's small, I did I reckon around 80 or so. I guess that changes the numbers, doesn't it? Also, I got confused and started out by doing the intakes. Can that be fixed?
@@RosaBirke Hey, I would recommend you start over. You don't want to do the decreases until it's 7 inches or long enough for your head. How small is your head? Smaller than 20"? if you're doing 80 sts, then your number would be 16 not 21 but that seems rather small.
@@Corduroykidd It's 16 cms around 7 inches long now, that's why I started doing the decreases. I've cast on around 82 or 84 stitches, and that seems to fit my head good.
Nope. The final rounds are all decrease rounds. I do that on all my hats. If you added a round of k1p1 in-between each decrease round the top of the hat wouldn't be flat. You'd get a pointy dome shape. If you were decreasing more than 8 sts per round maybe you'd do that, but not for this pattern.
Well since 107 is an odd number and you're doing 1x1 ribbing there should be a spot where you have two of something, two knits or two purls. Just increase a stitch wherever that is so that you have 108. A simple backward loop over the needle would work. You can look it up on youtube if you don't know how to do that.

THANK YOU FOR SHOWING JOINING ROUND TRICK!!!
I love it! Thank you for this simple pattern ❤️
Dm me on Insta if you need further help.
love love loved your video, I have also been looking for this pattern. thank you
Thank you for going slow with each instruction. That was awesome!
Glad you liked it :)
Goodluck!
Hello, this has been a very helpful video!
Thanks for watching. I tried to make it simple to follow, I hope I succeeded. ⭐️
I’ve made 3 beanies so far. this helped a lot
awesome :)
Thank you so much. I am giving it a try.
Thanks! Really easy to follow, it ended up perfect

Awesome!
Hi, please, is it possible to make decrease in every second row? Thank you for your tutorial. Its perfect.
The top won't be flat if you put the decreases every other row. It will stick out at the top. You can try it if you want.
I did not realise that. Thank you very much for your answer. 🙏❤️
this is perfect !!! I really want to make my friends some hats thank you so much for posting !!
Hi :)!!! Thanks for the tutorial ! After the slip slip knit should I knit ? Or should I purl ? Sorry for the silly question and thanks in advance !!
You should do whatever the next stitch is. It will change every round so I can't really answer that. You continue the ribbing pattern the entire hat. Just do your best and if you mess up once or twice it's not that obvious.
@@Corduroykidd hey! so would it be - knit stitch - k2tog - ssk - purl stitch, and continuing the alternate k1p1 pattern ?
I wish you would have told us what to do after you do the decrease row. Do you just continue doing decreases each row or do you decrease then knit 1x1 a row?
yes you continue decreasing every round until you run out of stitches.
tutorial is awesome but it woulda been nice to be walked thru it a little better!
*knit not knot sorry
Oh and I only have 116 stitches not 120 haha woops
I've never done decreases before, but I need to make this hat bigger, (120 stitches instead of 100) how do I calculate the right decrease amount?
Hi, so 116 /4 is 29 but the double decrease takes 4 sts so your number is 25. Knit 25, decrease. I've realised that you have to knit one extra stitch every row for the pattern to work so the next round will be 23, decrease etc.
@@Corduroykidd thank you so much!!
Does 120 stitches get you to 24 inch hat? Or is it bigger?
@@KnitsByNayla 132 would be 24" but I think it's better a size down because it stretches so much, 124 sts, but that's up to you
@@Corduroykidd thanks!!
Loved this video 😍😍.... Please make more videos on knitting please 🙏🌠
im kinda confused, in the vid you say to add increases of 4 if you want it bigger, but in the description you say to add 8 stiches each inch.
After scrolling for hours finally found the actual aesthetic Pinterest Beanie tutorial 🤦🏽♀️
You're welcome lol :) Are you really a hipster if your hat covers your ears? I don't think so.
Are you doing 1 stockinette, 1 purl, so on and so forth?
Can you knit a bucket hat? I mean is that possible? If yes would u ever do a lil tutorial on that one too? Thanks alot💗
I've never really seen a good knit bucket hat. I had plans to design a crocheted bucket hat if that would interest you. Knitting is just too flimsy to get the right shape while crochet is pretty rigid and stiff when you need it to be. Thanks for watching ⭐️
Hi, I love the tutorial! I just wanted to ask you about the decreasing. I casted 116 stitches, so how many stitches before the k2tog? Thanks 💗
Hi, for some reason I never saw this comment, sorry. 116/4 is 29 - 4 sts for the dec you get 25. So knit 25, then dec for the first row.
I forgot to ask in my last comment, what was the yarn weight? Looks like DK. Maybe Aran?
I guess I didn't say in the video. I used a worsted weight yarn. I bit thinner than Aran. Because of the shaping if you use too thick of yarn the decrease channels will be very sharp and rigid.
hello!! Im struggling to follow the decrease pattern. I've cast on 120st so I did 120/4 = 30 30-4= 26
i knit/purl 26 stitches and k2tog,ssk repeated until the end of the row.
Second round decrease I did 24 stitches knit/purl , then k2tog,ssk
third round decrease 22 stitches knit/purl, then k2tog, ssk
and so on, but it doesn't give me you same ribbing pattern... ?
could you help me please? I really like your finishing!!!
thanks :)
It should! Be aware there's an extra st at the end of the round because of the math, so if you can, just wing the decreases without counting the stitches. To maintain the rib pattern all you have to do is follow what's already there before and after the decreases. good luck.
@@Corduroykidd I've made it!! thank you so much :) I'm really happy with the hat!
@@Corduroykidd That makes sense! Thank you.
Lmao I made mine a bit too small but I’m making a second one for someone else, thanks for this tutorial

Well I finished my first one and now I want to abandon all of my other WIPs and just knit beanies for a bit lol
They are addictive. Eventually my whole family will have matching hats.
@@Corduroykidd ooooohhh okayyyy! Thank you for the explanation it makes so much sense now haha!
At this point I just don't understaaaand
huh, can you dm me a picture on instagram? I might be able to help.
@@Corduroykidd of course I just dmed you!
When should I start to decrease?
I love this! What is the gauge for this pattern?
Hi, the gauge is 6.25 sts to the inch in 1x1 rib and 7.5 rows per inch approximately.
@ thank you!
Hii if I want to follow this pattern but with custom measurements, how would I go about doing that? Like how many stitches to cast on?
Gauge is 6.25 stitches to the inch in ribbing and 7.5 rows per inch. The pattern is in done in multiples of 8. Because of the ribbing you'd take your head measurement minus 4 inches and multiply by gauge and then choose the closest multiple of 8.
@@Corduroykidd thank you so much for your helpful response!
@@Corduroykidd thanks, finished it and now I have a lovely hat to keep my head warm, going to make one for my dad for Christmas 😌
Hi can tell me what music that is playing in the background? Thanks 🙏
It's linked in the description :)
What if I was knitting the hat in k2p2, how should I deal with starting the decrease part?
Unfortunately that doesn't really work with my pattern since it's in 1x1. I made a hat once by Petiteknit that was 2x2 like you were wanting. Maybe check that out instead. They placed their decreases on each side of a 2 St knit column.
Where can I find the written instructions? I can't see how many stitches in between decreases.
It's in the description.
Good luck :)
sorry I missed the answer!😢 I casted on 114 because I’m stupid, I didn’t check the stitches in the pattern and I made a sample 10 stitches for ten round for measures it and than I based my stitches cast on on this, but it’s stupid hahah
If I want to use the markers how should I do?
Thank you very much for your kindness and attention❤️
@@beatricemari3882 well it would have to be uneven I guess. It would have to be 24, 25, 24, 25.
thanks a lot!💖💖💖
hi, i probably didn't catch it but how many balls of yarn do you need for this beanie? thank u♥
It's about 250 metres depending on the length and size.
Thank you ❤
hiiii thank you for the tutorial!!! if i cast 124 stitches, how many should i knit before the k2tog?
each decrease takes 4 sts and you do it 4 times which is 16 sts. 124-16=108. 108/4=27 sts. So knit 27 sts for your first round of decreases.
Is there no way to complete this pattern without double pointed needles?
If you have a pretty long circular needle you can bend it in half and work one side at a time. You can look up how to do it.
Does it matter how many stitches I have? I have 108. Can I follow the same decreasing pattern?
Hi, yes you can, 108 is divisible by 4 so it works, 108 - 16 /4 = 23. So for the first decrease round you'd knit 23 sts before each decrease block. Also I believe I knit 7-8 inches before I started decreasing. Depends on how much cuff you want.
Hi again hope you find the time to answer .. my beanie have 80 stitches how could I divide them ?…🙏
80-16=64/4=16, so 16 sts between each decrease point in the first decrease round.
@@Corduroykidd 🙏💐
I was just wondering if I brightened up 112 sts ... when I closed the beanie, do I knit 21, k2tog, etc, or do I knit 33, k2tog ...?
Hey, so each decrease takes 4 stitches x 4 is 16, 112 - 16 is 96/4 is 24. So for the first decrease round knit 24 stitches and then do your decrease.
@@Corduroykidd okay
Hi there I was reading your pattern and I think I may have done something wrong, but when you start to decrease from 21 to 20 etc, should a stitch be included that hasn’t been K2Tog?
hi, sorry, I didn't explain it very well in the video. In the first round it should be knit 21, then the 4 st dec. Every round after that there's an extra st at the end of the round. Then it should go 19, 17, 15, etc smoothly.
hii sorry for asking too many questions, do i need to k2tog and p2tog at the very beggining for every row until i reach 7 inches? im a bit confused
You knit1-purl1 rib for 7 inches before any decreases. You only decrease at the top of the hat
Hi! Beginner knitter here! So you decrease 4 times each row? How many stitches down do you do the first decrease? Thank you!
Sorry, never mind I just found the pattern in your description, thank you!!
I’m sorry, I must have missed how often to decrease
So I'm getting to the decrease part and the first round was right on but the knit 20 round I'm short by 6 stitches. What am I doing wrong?
Each decrease point takes 4 stitches decreasing 2 at each point. On the next round after the extra 1 stitch you should knit 19 and be back at the first decrease again. I can't say why you're 6 stitches short. You're decreasing 8 stitches a round so after the first round you should have 92 if you started with 100.
@@Corduroykidd I see. I decreased to 20 on the second round but I should have done 19 which would be 92 stitches. Thanks. I didn't watch the video and just read the pattern in it and it confused me I guess.
@@entirely_uncreative7404 Sorry, It's kinda my fault. I explained it differently in the video than the pattern, I should probably make it more clear
@@Corduroykidd thank you so much, that makes more sense

You'd want to knit a guage swatch first to find how many stitches you get in an inch and then you can multiply that by your head size to get a st number. It has to be even and divisible by 4 tho

hi im still a beginner and i cant seem to get the part where you knit 21, k2tog, and ssk etc. in what part exactly do i need to repeat? thank you
There are 4 decreases at the top of the hat so you'll knit 21, then do the 4 stitch decrease and then knit another 21 sts and do it a total of four times for that round. Then the next round is the same except you knit two stitches less between each decrease, 19, 17, etc. If you're using a stitch marker there is one extra stitch at the beginning of every decreases row except for the first one. Don't know why, it just is if you're counting them out.
makes more sense, thank you so much!!! looking forward to more knitting tutorials from you
Can I use 29’’ circular needles for this?
Not really. You could try and knit it flat and sew it up the back but it's complicated because of the decreases and you can't knit it in a round because it would be way too stretched out.
Idk what I’m doing wrong because the first part of my hat the ribs are so good but then it gets all messed up. Idk 😂
Good luck

@@ExcuseMeMAM12 If it's only a round I put my needle back in the old stitches and painstakingly unknit what I just did. If you have a marker in place you can rip out one round at a time by ripping until your marker if it's the exact first stitch. Hope that makes sense.
7:06 how do you get this long? keep knitting the previous pattern until it shown like so?
Do you mean how long do you rib for before the decreases? I knit 7 inches but my hat is pretty short when cuffed, you could always do 7.5 or 8
Great video!
So the last rows are all decreases? Isn't it necessary to do one row of k1p1 after one decrease row?

Less than 200 yards, almost a full skein of yarn
Hey, hey, oh . . . PANCAKES!
I have just realised I have 107 stitches instead of 108. How do I decrease? Help 😣😣
Well since 107 is an odd number and you're doing 1x1 ribbing there should be a spot where you have two of something, two knits or two purls. Just increase a stitch wherever that is so that you have 108. A simple backward loop over the needle would work. You can look it up on youtube if you don't know how to do that.

Any kind of thin worsted weight yarn will do. I think I used Big Twist.
