Someone once said if dio and Janis had a child it would have been melody, her voice is very unique and getting better every time. Sams guitar playing is tremendous and it too is getting better. The whole band is a throw back to the 80s.
In the 70s I had a raspy voice and sang close to Janis, but some of her songs were too hard like this one. So I commend Melodia for slaying this song and sounding more like Janis than any other I've heard. And I heard a few... so thanks for this reaction, Texan.
Let me add, that Sam does the solo true to the original then shows his signature style that is fast becoming recognizable as Liliac. And mentioning Zep II zoomed me into the past cuz that was my first intro to them as well. I was already liking the rock but boy what a graduation into harder stuff. What's better than Led Zep? ha And being so young, 14, some of the lyrics got me.... like whoa! ha
Melody gets most of the accolades for her great vocals and unique sound. Sam gets much attention too and deservedly so for his advanced talents. For me I can't get enough of Abby's talent on, not just keeping that steadfast beat, but the way she accents the rhythm beats and banging on those skins. Her drum beats just get's this old body still wanting to move to the beat like a young man again. And of course her infectious attitude and smiles while she plays always draws attention to her in the background of any of their videos. You always want that camera to stay on her for a bit longer because she has so much fun and it's real. Their all great. Ethan has shown his not a guitar player turned bassist. But I still want to see him back on guitar again. After that solo on "The Trooper" I was so impressed that someone his age could play a solo live like that. I was envious for sure. I think that Justin is going to be the sleeper. He's showing it already. Just one solo on the keys one day and I'll be ecstatic that I knew it was coming.

This is the best version of this song including Janice Joplins cover , of Irma Franklin's original song (Irma was Aretha Franklin's little sister ). I am old enough to have heard Janice sing this and in my Opinion , Melody does abetter job , still it's just my opinion. What you said regarding Liliac doing a great cover is totally correct , for my money they do all their tribute covers with great respect to the original . I've seen some real old you tube vids from there other channel, when they where super young and sang alot of pop songs back then. But, Sam can sing, pretty good also.
Correction: Sam was 20 in this performance, Abigail 19, and Melody 17. Only Ethan and Justin were in their early teens here. This performance was a mere 2 years ago. That's not "old." Also, covers help draw in more people who have never heard of them and assist in expanding their fan base. It's just smart marketing when you're an independent band. Have a good one.

I came away with a different attitude, Melody is better than Janis. But then again, Janis did a lot of alcohol and drugs so sometimes she didn't always sing with clarity.
Melody is about as close to Janis as I've ever heard covering this song. If anyone takes the time to A/B the Janis's studio version (as she sang it differently live most of the time) and compare bar for bar with Melody's version, you would clearly hear the dynamics and style of how close Melody is to Janis. But Janis does has more rasp in her version. But boy is Melody's performance as good as it could be. Liliac- Mars (Live in Cumming GA). This same concert in fact. They slayed this Janis Joplin cover but Mars is better. IMO.
