I have a 2010 XC60 which has been a great vehicle but the XC40 is something worth looking at. And I LOVE the fact that Volvo left the back amber signals alone and didn't go red like the rest of their line up

Great review guys! Tip for the hands free tailgate for Volvos: for it to work you should have the key in your hand or pocket and wave your foot underneath the left side of the bumper (I have a 2020 Volvo XC90 and that is how it works for my car)

You’re spoilt in the US. In the UK, BLIS is $800, auto dim exterior rear mirrors are $2000 as only available with a Driver Assist pack and active bending lights is a $2000 option (only available on the ‘Pro’ trim levels).
And as well as the exhaust tip deletion there is also;
Paddle shifters on R Design. REMOVED
Embossing on leather seats. REMOVED
Embossing on C Pillar. REMOVED
Embossing on tread plates. REMOVED
Electric folding rear seats. REMOVED
Folding rear head rests. REMOVED
Close & Lock button on trunk. REMOVED
And now only one key delivered. We all know about the ‘Care Key’ that cannot be linked to driver profiles and no profiles can be called up from the infotainment screen.
Volvo have even deleted the stalwart ticket holder from the A Pillar!
I’ve ordered an Inscription Pro and was really disappointed to find out, after I’d ordered, of all of the deletions.

As a Volvo XC90 owner, this XC40 is great entry level choice for those buyers who are new to the Volvo brand.
I've had Volvos in the past, but I got the XC40 because I wanted a small, sporty SUV. I think it's more about your needs rather than being new to the brand.

John Smith you are absolutely correct. Even the barebones, missing so many options, when I asked at the dealership was $41k. I bought the BMW X2 with premium packages for under 40K
Aaron, as a Volvo dealer yourself, you should know that per the Volvocars.com website, the XC40 starts at $33,700 base price. If you had watched the video, they list the options included on the model they are reviewing, and arrive at a $44.6k price tag for that particular vehicle.
@@thejol1 yes, of course! Why would I be any kid of authority on what Volvo vehicles cost? Find me that white T5 AWD Rdesign for that figure.... Anywhere. Yes, the starting msrp w no options (not even all weather mats for example) would be in the low 30s in a T4 fwd variant. Living on the Midwest, clients like to have the all weather reaction of awd - becoming more of a want for buyers nationwide too. I respect your opinion but let's not throw stones sir. I have a feeling my Volvo product knowledge is a bit sharper than others here as I utilize it and learn every day. Cheers
@@thejol1 it's not about options - the vehicle shown in the video is a completely different car from the base model - different engine, different suspension, different everything. This review is useless if I'm interested in the T4 Momentum.

I've owned a 2021 Volvo XC40 T4 for two years, and it is the nicest Volvo I've ever owned. The technology in it is fantastic, and I love the panoramic moon roof. It gets 30 mpg average on premium 91 gas. I really enjoy accident mitigation, which I already used, lane departure mitigation and warning, CTA warning with auto brake, BLIS, etc..... I' ve had no problems with it whatsoever so far. I got it CPO with 8K on the clock.
You both did an excellent review, so great that Doug...will need to consult with you guys! I wish at the end of the video you gave a score....☺️. ...like happy faces etc....

Might’ve missed it, but you could also get the polestar engineering option. Not sure if it makes a big difference, but would love to see a review if there is a noticeable difference.
I have the 2020 model fully loaded, and added Polestar. Takes a while to get used to shifting gears, and pushing a button for "Park" Another issue, Volvo should have made the parking brake button red...avoids confusion with the P Park button.

I strongly suggest getting the optional POLESTAR ENGINEERED software. I think it’s like a 1250 dollar option. I have it on my 2020 XC40. It changes the mapping a bit keeping gears longer.. feeling more torque..ish. I’ve had the XC90 T5, XC60 R DESIGN AND NOW XC40 R DESIGN. yeh I went down in size each time but I went up in options each time. The 2020 R Design version is fully loaded for around 48k .. mostly loaded at least, I miss the HK sound system I had in the 60. Mine doesn’t have it but my Volvo dealer had none in the lot with it. These cars are solid.. I love each of them. Style without gaudy looks. Subtle excellence.. just like Swedish everything.
Yet another great review. Never thought I'd look at a Volvo, but I plan to now. My theory about the shifter is that an accidental bump won't change the setting, you have to deliberately hit it twice to get it to change. Swedes have always been about safety! Does the turbo 4 requite 91 octane? Also, no ventilated seats available, correct? Thank you again for a really nice review!

I considered this model VolvoXC-40 last Fall but equipped the way I would want it made it just too pricey. I also tested the Audi Q3 Prestige. Ended up getting the 2019 VW Arteon SEL Premium R-Line. Much more standard equipment than either the Audi or Volvo plus the warranty was hard to pass up (6 years/72K miles). The Arteon has more storage as well. The Volvo is a nice car but $$SSS.

Very good objective review. Only point is did I hear you say the Momentum is just FWD? The Canadian Momentum is AWD.
I bought a new 2020 R-Design T5 with Polestar Optimization. I don't know why this option was not mentioned in the review or any comments? In Canada, the 2021 has deleted many options available in 2020.
I was hoping that Volvo (Geely) would sell 2 hybrid models as they announced 2 years ago. The Recharge in Canada is $25,000 more expensive than the base that I feel is not practical either.
Just picked up our XC40. Great car. The gear selector is the only standout oddity....

Is this T5 a single scroll or twin scroll turbo? Everything I see appears to be single scroll. There is very little info on these volvo engines.
Here in Turkey we only have the 3 cylinder petrol :( because of the extremely high taxes. I ordered a 3 cylinder momentum FWD for about USD 63,000 :(
Normally the two tap on the gear shift would bug me but I’m beginning to change my mind especially after recalling knocking the gear shift into neutral by accident just from putting my large soda back into the holder. Fortunately I was in a parking lot when I bumped it from drive to neutral so I was able to stop and shift back into drive and leave with getting hit or hitting someone else
I have the car but cannot get it to play my podcasts on my iPhone except through Apple Airplay. Isn't there a way to play wirelessly, like with Bluetooth, without plugging in? My car is connected to my phone but will only show my phone contacts and play music.
The T40 R-Design looks really good! ... until you see it next to a T60 R-Design with 22" black wheels. 🙂

Strange they got rid of all the R-Design markings. And the exhaust finishing. Still really think this car is cool though.
Great review as always. I have been reading some reviews that the front seats are not comfortable or even close to the level of the xc60 seats. Any opinion on this?

For how much everyone moans about it...it’s no big deal at all. It’s a quirk that you quickly forget about to where it seems natural.
I really like the XC40. A couple of misses for me: see thru sunroof cover, lack of cooled front seats, and that shifter design. I can see someone in a rush selecting the wrong gear and possibly causing an accident.

Hello from Sweden. The sound system in this car is actually not the standard one. This is called _High Performance._ The standard audio system is pretty bad and has only three speakers. Three, eight and thirteen speakers are the choices. The eight and thirteen speaker system is manufactured by Harman/Kardon. The three speaker audio system is some budget version.
I have the 2020 Inscription and absolutely love it! It’s classy and fits me! Definitely my dream car!

Will volvo update their sensus infotainment to android for this model and older ones?
Going forward with new models, the Android based system will likely replace Sensus... But I also doubt that the hardware will be able to support an update for the existing vehicles
