As a super absorber, I greatly appreciate this video. I have lowered my cholesterol through WFPB oil free eating but continue to wonder about its impact on the brain. In addition to Bergamot, what is your opinion about Amla powder and it’s possible reduction in LDL cholesterol?
I just found out I am also a hyper-absorber of cholesterol too. I took that Boston Heart test, and it showed that my beta-sitosterol number was high at 211 while my campesterol was still in the low section at 144, which was odd, but I guess it happens sometimes? My production markers are 'low'. My balance score is 0.2. Not a happy camper here. For those interested, I am a 65 yo female, 113 lbs, 5' 7" and my LDL has been creeping up for a few years now. It's currently at 237.
Hi Margo.. I too have a high Beta-sitosterol of 248, and high Desmosterol 98 but campo and lathe are in the green .. How was it suggested that you deal with the Too much Beta Sitosterol? My LDL's and HDL are berserk Ldl"s are 275 and as high as 394.. I guess I am wondering what you are doing to lower it..
Yes, Dr. Dayspring's interview really helped me understand the likely reason why, on a strict keto diet, my ApoB had shot up to 186. My doctor wouldn't order the tests Dayspring suggested, but when I cut out red meat, eggs and dark chicken along with coconut oil, and added fiber (2 cans or ~600 g of legumes per day, plus LOTS of vegetables), my ApoB dropped to ~85. Without a statin or any pharmaceutical or supplement. So I assume I was a hyper-responder to SFA and/or dietary cholesterol. I still eat fish every day, and small amounts of chicken breast with my lentils or beans. and 3-4 tablespoons of olive oil, along with some nuts and steel cut oats. But fiber is the magic solution to lowering cholesterol. I consume about 75-80 g of fiber per day.
Interesting! Thank you for sharing. Currently, I am ketovore (ketogenic & carnivore) and total cholesterol high with high triglycerides and LDL and high HLD. I have stopped taking statins as they cause too much aches and brain fog. As an alternative, I tried Red Yeast (from rice) and had the same symptoms. I have always had high cholesterol and now feel it's normal despite all the studies and opinions. I'm feeling better on a high animal protein diet.
@@sylviaterblanche2720 Yeah, Red Yeast is just an unregulated form of statin. It's not more "natural", All I can say is, that with high triglycerides, you're taking a risk with your body. Even the current experiments with lean mass hyper-responders are assuming low trigs. I'm fit, my trigs weren't too bad (now they're in the 20s) and my blood pressure has always been good, so I wasn't too worried for myself. But because I have kids, I thought it would be selfish to risk running high cholesterol. Especially since my father died of a heart attack. Do you have kids?
@@sylviaterblanche2720 Sounds risky as a long term dietary option eg 'Results from our work in rats and others findings from human epidemiologic studies demonstrate deficits in cognitive performance following chronic ingestion of high fat, high saturated fat, diets'. I had terrible problems with statins the first three times I tried them - constant nausea and liver problems. Same thing with niacin and berberin. Fortunnately, the fourth time iI was prescribed a statin, we went for a different type of statin. Now, after three years, LDL of 53 and no side effects, I couldn't be happier.
That is a wonderful drop in your ApoB. Mine dropped from over 142 while on keto to 106 on a 30 day elimination diet, free of cholesterol foods. My total cholesterol fell from 326 to 229 in that one month. I am about to begin another 30 day elimination diet and will add beans and a lot of fiber. Thanks for the inspiration. Best to you and your family.
Mayo Clinic has a sterol test too. My doc has ordered it twice. So ideally should sterol panel results be ZERO? Or is everyone going to have a little plant sterol? Even non hyper absorber.
For balance I suggest you all look at the newest emerging evidence from the 'Lipid Energy Model' theory (Dave Feldman, Nick Norwitz and Adrian Soto Mota).
What you are talking about as hyper absorber is totally different from Feldman protocol! They are not absorbing plant sterols and their LDLs run extremely high as a result of their keto, carnivore diets. Can't quite get the connection between Day springs explaining of cholesterol, that body adjusts up or down according to its needs.. So, cholesterol in blood is mostly not absorbed! And the general argument is that high cholesterol isn't causal in healthy person, anyway! Your situation is entirely different, it would seem!
Most people absorb little added dietary cholesterol because their baseline dietary cholesterol intake is already high. People who have little or no cholesterol in their existing diets will probably absorb quite a fair bit of cholesterol if eggs or other high cholesterol foods are added to their diets. This was known many decades ago. That's why the egg industry 'research' centre keeps funding studies of people eating standard American diets (already high in cholesterol) which show that if you add eggs to their diet, their blood cholesterol levels do not increase much iff at all.
My doc has increased my statin to 40mg and still, it remains high....BP is stable with BPmed. I have cut dairy (Lost 12.5 lbs.) and limited beef to 2x a month, eat oatmeal, legumes and Veg 3-4 x week. I do not eat processed foods at all. Lost 12.5 lbs. Had a calcium screen and little to no plague visible and passed all of my cardio and sonogram tests. Before doc wanted to put me on statin I fought her and took bergamot for 8 months in the hopes it would assist me with getting my numbers in range, It did not, then I read taking bergamot before cholesterol is high is most beneficial not after the fact. I think I need the genetic panel done, Im tired of trying to second-guess all of this and plead with a doctor for testing they don't want to do.

What Zetia dose do you take? 10mg a day?
Is psyllium (capsules) effective in the absorption of cholesterol?
That is a question for your physician sunfun, thanks for watching!
