No, really, binged all videos to date for the knowledge Charo shares. The stories and the backstories of the hobby. And the style. Somehow I feel invited and confident enough to have ordered my first keyboard in years. Thaaaaanks
Nice to see coverage of TGR. While personally i am of the thought that it is slightly over hyped, the impact tgr has on the keyboard design and hobby is undeniable. Personally, i owned a tgr jane me v2. Owned because it still held my personal record of souring on the board in the first 30 minutes of building it, and selling it off within the first week at cost. The design and internal tolerances of the ME felt like a step down in term of quality, for better aesthetics, scalability. It also came off to me, a lack of attention to detail that most high end boards are supposed to have. It was my first high end board, and soured me so much on high end boards that the next (and last) high end board i got was because i was literally not in the right state of mind (hungover and deciding to spend a bunch of money i did not budget out on a whim). Thankfully that (cloudline) turned out really well for me, and the contrast in attention to design in terms of function, build process, replaceability, etc, all reminded me of why i soured as quickly on the tgr jane me.
I’m deeply humored by all the interjections about raffles you lost, also just really enjoy the content / history you’re compiling / sharing for the community! I haven’t quite been willing to go TKL for size/space reasons, but would love to get my hands on a Unikorn! Currently waiting on a January keyboard and am continuing to mess around with different configs in my bakeneko in the meantime
It'd be cool to know about whether you think TGR was influential in terms of construction that gave a unique sound profile that weren't present in non-tgr boards, and whether tgr's popularity comes down to its aesthetic and rarity or its sound signature. Defs love the lore history vids, but don't be afraid to editorialize more and share your opinions
Nice video man. Definitely an insight into yuktsi's humble beginnings. While I haven't own a Tomo myself (yet), I've got the opportunity to build a friend's unit and I don't recall there are any magnets for Tomo, please correct me if I'm wrong. There's magnets on the MEs though. Also fun fact: Jane V3 is in the works, there's a CN commission going on now. Fingers crossed that the Jane V3 will be internationally released in the near future.

To this day I still own my TGR 910 CE. Yuktsi is such a top dude, he offered 3 or 4 people who were just seconds too slow to get into the original 910 FCFS dibs on the CE. ontop of that my CE came in dented from shipping and he sent me a new bottom part.

I really just wish someone released simple wedge korean tkls without any fluff, kind of like the kbd8x mk2, but with compatibility for the jane v2/ce plates. Ideally, a plain anodized bottom case with a simple uncoated weight, two top cases in f13 or f12, a hineybush pcb, lots of plate options. I don't want my board to stick out, I just want simplicity.
it's a pretty sick keyboard and i was lucky enough to type on one in person. in the end of the day though, it's still just a keyboard, and i would much rather have multiple mid range keebs for the price of one
A keyboard types like a keyboard. The value comes mostly from history and design elements. Some people care, some don't. But sure not worth to spend crazy aftermarket values.

It would be cool to check into other upcoming or well known designers who have made or are making insanely high quality boards. I can think of a couple like Laminar, Hand Engineering, Ori club etc..

As someone who is very new to the Keyboard scene, I have no reference point for a lot of the discussion around "endgames" from years past, and where new boards fit into the story of custom keebs more broadly. Please do continue, this is great content and especially welcoming for new folks like me. BTW- your whole style of making and presenting the videos is great, keep it going! And thank you!
Great video. Jacky would make for an interesting video. The Elephant, Piggy, and the Haitun (dolphin) are holding it down for the chonky lovers. I cant wait to get my Haitun in a couple of months. Wish I had the spare cash for the all-brass version...

Agreed, the Jane v2 ME hits nothing like the CE and original Jane units.

The Jane V2 design is from Monokei Tomo, as Monokei interview said. But without a daughter board. Basically, the Tomo is a 75% layout Jane.

I have the TGR Tomo SE. Incredible keyboard. The Jane is clouted much more, but I honestly prefer the 75% form factor alot more.
