Even the much, much smaller Marauder suits in the book would never get that close to each other on deployment unless they were retrieving a fallen comrade. The point of the suit was extreme firepower and mobility, controlling an area hundreds of yards across.
Even much farther, I mean, the ones in the book had tactical nukes on them!
Yeah someone really needs to do a remake of the book but give it the Batman Begins treatment, make it more serious and gritty, and depict the Mobile Infantry’s power armor as it actually was in the book - jet-assisted leaping miles at a time, dispensing nades for hundreds of yards or more on either side, and with an option for tactical nukes too. A 1-man blitzkrieg basically.
that was the main idea for the original, and we sort of have them on ST 4 & 5. But for ST1, Paul HATED the book (he even had to have someone else finish it for him). He took the names and some events from the book but the rest is his own work. Besides, budget wasn't going to be enough to cover for those kind of suits... Imo, best thing they did to set the satire of the film.
Well from what I understand those were like the very first prototypes and rico and his team were field testing them at least during that movie.
Thank god he made someone else read it, or they might not have managed to sneak such a robustly Heinleinian message into the "satire" of the movie@@konradfoyle!

There are the two CG movies that came after this, Invasion and Traitor of Mars where they get to use these again in all their glory, especially in Invasion where Rico leads an orbital drop of Marauders, set to the classic Klendathu Drop theme

I'm genuinely surprised as to whoever convinced investors into getting a green light for a sequel after a horrendous flop that is starship trooper 2. What's more mind boggling is how an entire movie studio looks at this movie and told themselves that this looks good. Let's go ahead and show it to people.

I haven't seen CG this good since RoboCop. Which oddly enough, those Marauders remind me of that RoboCop prototype that killed itself in 2.
The animation in Robocop was better than this! And I know exactly what you mean about the Robocop 2 prototype that shoots itself, the Marauder suits so kind of look like it 😁

While not the "Gorilla Suits" Heinlein described, it's nice to see the Mobile Infantry finally get their armor. It was always ridiculous that they were constantly deployed on the ground with little or no support among bugs that could turn them to mincemeat. ='[.]'=

Interesting but it's still better if you read the book. Rico graduated Basic in a Marauder suit. His high school teacher was an officer in the MI but never saw combat with Rico....

The lack of armor for the Mobile Infantry is what killed this entire series for me.
Mobile Infantry in the book had armor beaten only by Iron Man or WarHammer 40k. They were complete badassed warriors.

What did this scene make me feel? It felt like a cheap version of a squad of space marines versus a wave of Tyranids from Warhammer 40k. The action due to the low level CGI graphics budget was minimal. I had the feeling the entire storyline for the movie was a rehashed Warhammer novel with the religious aspect and plot points, but it went into the too cheesy direction, because they couldn't figure out a better way to reach a climax.

A single tactical squad of Imperial Fists or Black Templars would have ended these xenos faster than the Ecclesiarchy asks for tithes!!

The fight scene itself is a bad joke, but the presentation of the arrival is pure gold.

I think THAT should've been the Mobile Infantry. Nothing but those sweeping the fields.

Not gonna lie as a very Religious and devout Catholic...I really enjoyed this scene.
As a very religious and devout Lutheran I'm appalled at this scene, and the whole military authoritarian turn these movies took against Robert Heinlein's original book.
The stomping robot foot steps sounds squishy for a dirt ground.
It took them three movies to get the power suits, but they still basically went out of their way to make them basically nothing like the suits in the book. Lol
I did not know this movie existed. I preferred it that way.

My favorite scene. It would be cooler if Behemecoatyl responded Marauders' arrival with a brand new bug caste called Angel Bug (Bugs with humanoid frame and pairs of vaguely bird-like wings based on common depiction of angels according to Anoke's memories)
