Thank you sir! Good how-to vid. Your floor looks good. Building a 10x12 shed soon and will use some paint like this to seal the floor before I put the rest up in case I have delays.
OSB soaked up the paint a porous wood for sure. Good job and good idea. One day LOL your trusses will be delivered we are praying sooner than later for you guys. God bless.
The floor looks really nice. Might even make a good finished floor. Just sand it a little with a drywall power sander with some 120 grit to knock down the rough spots and put on another coat after drywall is finished.
Very cool, I just got done tarping most of our roof because there's a big storm coming in tomorrow and its supposed to last a few days. Hoping to keep as much water out of our house as possible. lol :)
My wife and I are wishing you good luck in your project. However your well needs more thought. First, the case needs to be sealed so that ground water does not leak down the outside of your casing and contaminate the water inside the well. Second, you might have a chance if you can get that silt pumped out. There is water down there but I'm afraid your going to have to go deeper. You are going to need at least 1 gal. per minute flow and then your going to need a large storage tank to supply your house. Start with pumping out silt first, once the silt is cleared you might get the flow you need. Use a gas or electric pump, your >20' of head, pour clear water from top and pump out until clear. You cannot pump fast enough with that pitcher pump. Good Luck, if you would be interested in additional help drop me a line.
THE first thing I do , when I am going to put a pipe in the ground that I have to draw water from , is prepare the pipe with holes , two to three feet , I then get geo textile & wrap it around the area covering the holes , two or three wraps also covering the bottom , use the felt or the plastic style they both do not rot , secure that to the pipe with stainless clamps , drill the hole , drop in course gravel about a foot of it , put the pipe in then more gravel, higher than the geo textile , this has always worked for me .
Great job Sir, did you ever considered spray painting the sub floor, especially given the fact of the stage you are at in the building process? I sincerely wish you well. 👍🇨🇦
It was good to see the floor get a coat of sealer to stop any more rain damage. You can always re-coat it if the colour is not perfect. Any second coat should not take so much material. Is there any news of the roof trusses and being able to keep the weather out rather than simply reducing its effects? It is good that you are not feeling a slow down on the progress towards getting the house winter proofed, though I am sure that many of us do have a concern to see it move that way. Perhaps you are just too busy with all the day to day stuff, but you are doing very well to keep looking and sounding so cheerful.
I don't think it looks pink at all... kinda beige.. but hey, every monitor looks a bit different. It must feel so nice and clean to walk on it now? Super excited for those trusses to arrive !!
The longer the OSB stays in the weather (treated, painted or otherwise), the worse it will deteriorate unfortunately. It is not rated for continuous weather exposure. Have to hurry and get a roof and housewrap on it. If you don't move on this soon then all of the OSB house-wide will be destroyed. God Bless and keep up the good videos!
Hi, my wife and i are just finishing our subfloor and also want to protect it from rain while we slowly build. How did this hold up over time. Did it do a good job at protecting the floors? Thanks!!
The best way to do this..is layout your walls with chaulk lines. Spray clear coat over the chaulk lines. Lay plastic over the floor. Keeps the floor dry until you get your roof on.
I can only imagine the stress of having to build and winter-proof a house in six months without any formal training in the Building Trades (e.g. Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical), plus find drinking water, plus figure out how to install a solar system. We are rooting for you! It's almost time to Roll the Trusses!
We are doing a 16x16 addition did painting the OSB work better than using a all weather sealant? Have to pick something up this evening and if I can do inside of the shell cabin also might as well
So my question is, will you be putting anything else on the OSB or will this be it? I'm only asking because I was going to pull up the carpeting in my RV and paint the floor to my liking. I've painted plywood in the past and it came out great and lasted forever. Thanks.
I like watching how meticulous you are. I don't deck till the week before the SIPs walls are delivered because I don't like material degradation. With that I still paint the entire deck, normally 5 gallons per 1000sft. I like to just pour a glob and spread it out. I try to put it on very heavy. Don't be suprised if water still gets thru the cracks. That Pyramid Autumn sunset looks just fine. Great about paint is you can change it if you want to. Question: plumbing rough Inspected yet? If so did he say why ABS is allowed there Not PVC for DWV. I have several Brut cans full of PVC fittings that I hope I can use rather than waste. Thanks
@@MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving After the trusses are put up and you start to deck the roof you may be pulling the OSB up a ladder. Here's a tip I have used since 2007'. Put a "C"clamp half way on the 4x8 on the side. Use that as a handle and walk it up the ladder with you. And don't precut the offset OSB, let them run proud till that side is done and pop a line and cut them in place.
All very well doing the top, but what have you done to stop it being attacked from damp underneath therefore causing rot? ? commonsense suggest you waterproof underneath before painting the top layer?
OSB don't like water and moisture period. (Flaking and swelling) Roof trusses would be nice with tarp if roofing OSB not in budget, but water is an OSB nemesis
@@MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving Was your OSB Tru-Floor rated water resistant and you were trying to beef it up? We are wanting to save money on cheaper OSB which is not water resistant so we like your idea.
The sun might damage the osb but water soaked osb is worse... The wall will dry off easy but not so for the floor so while paint ain't the best solution it's better than nothing. Also the house wrap are not immune to sun exposure. Depending on what you use some say they can only be exposed for a few month to sunlight before being damaged or destroyed...

I’m no carpenter but can anyone answer why people use this stuff for flooring other than it being cheap? It falls apart when it gets wet and maybe it’s because I live in a humid area. I have not been able to make anything last. Started with this went to plywood. Covered plywood with black paper and it still rotted! I hate Louisiana!

If you wanted it to have a little grit, just sprinkle fine sand over the paint before it dries.

I didn't know that you could paint OSB. I thought that it would just soak up into the fibrous strands forever. Does it work like KILZ primer?
It was floor paint. They have it at HD.
