aha - TAKE on ELECTRICITY

- Due to the great repercussion of an old project on the internet, I decided to develop a DIY kit of it, keeping in mind good performance, robustness, simplicity and low cost. Meet Easy-Flyback driver, it's available in my website!
BTW, for those who did not understand what is going on this video, here's a brief explanation: The music really comes from the high voltage electric arcs. They are literally playing the music due to the programmed phase and firing frequency! So, there are no speakers, no audio / video special effects. It looks even better in person and sounds about the same.
Special thanks to all my patrons:

As a high energy physicist this literally brought a tear to my eye. Fucking magnificent! Bravo
This was created long ago bro idk how it will make you cry its simple if your actually a high voltage✌ physicist
@@ryciie308 I've delt alot with high voltages, but flybacks will always be special to me. They we're the first transformers I played with as a kid. Take on me is also one of my all time favorite songs. The simplicity of the set-up and the fidelity achieved is just amazing to me

In the early 90s I founded one of the most successful flyback transformer businesses in Europe. This video brought joy to me, seeing such beasties being used so unconventioinally.
Amazing!
what are they actually for? just hooking up to wires to transfer power from one to another in a safe way with stepping-down or whatever?
@@KairuHakubi flyback transformers are (or rather, were) used to power the electron beam in CRT (glass screen) monitors and TVs. Very high voltage at a low current.

The sound had a haunting quality to it! Love it. 👍
I bet Bigclive would say there was a slightly ozony smell in that room. Good work.
I ever made a tesla coil, and yeah I smell an ozone smell coming out from the arc. I love arc smell but is it dangerous to inhale ?
Slight lol
@@LabArlyn Ozone is dangerous in large amounts, but in a well ventilated area a little is not too dangerous. I'm not a scientist, so do some research!
with every video we get closer to the ultimate Franzoli Orchestra
Can you please make a video on how you make these? The physics, programming, timing, everything
TBF there are hundreds of online guides for how to run musical Tesla coils. Flyback transformers like this are less common, but TBF if you are messing with flybacks like this, you should understand them well enough first before even trying as they are dangerous.
As for the programming, pretty sure it's simple MIDI channels
@@andreyrumming6842 "there are hundreds of online guides" and most of them are outdated as heck and dont give you all the info or even the parts list.
There's actually a video by Great Scott that explains flyback transformers and switching power supplies, which is basically what this is. You just need something to convert the midi input to a pwm signal for driving the mosfet
@@firefly2472 If you don't already understand enough to be able to make use of those "outdated" guides then you'd be better off going to school for the relevant information first. If someone just handed you a completed circuit like these in the video you would just end up killing yourself.
Its very dangerous, so if you don't know and understand then don't.
Really great stuff ... takes me back the 1980's. We had fun back then building Tesla coils (for research purposes - haha), plasma globes and HV power supplies (neon-sign transformers too) - but never modulated them like this. Your awesome work will attract people to the field of electronics. All the best ...
I love the bwips and swoops. Flybacks are my new favorite instrument.
The Electronic music genre has taken on a whole new meaning. This is awesome.
Please play Ievan Polkka on this "stereo setup", that will be great to hear😄👍
It has four voices tho...
The straight flyback transformers sound much more musical than the Tesla coils. Almost more of a pure sine wave sound rather than the 'electro' sawtooth wave kind of sound. I dig it!
Also, great choice of song 👍
That is most definitely not a sine wave, but I see your point.
The great sound is because the arc has a short path and is concentrated to a single arc point. That helps give it a stronger louder sound. If the arc was fed to a metel globe and alowed to just dissipate into the air it wiuld be softer more hissy and crackly sounding.
It's all relative to the recording equipment when using the internet as a reference. For me flybacks tend to throw an arc that sounds better in person when it comes to lower frequency modulation. The deep thicker arcs developed are good for that. In recordings on cheap microphones it sounds muffled and garbage. SSTC's can also throw really amazing audio quality arcing just to free air though, you have to filter out all the noise or run it at 6+mhz or something. It's not as easy. Some amplitude modulated PLL SSTC's sound amazing.
Yeah, this is a much more enjoyable Zeusaphone to listen to. Or is it called a Thoramin?
I knew soneone would mention Tesla ! 🤣🤣🤣
This is amazing!! The sounds are just so satisfying to hear!
That high note is something else
My favourite type of musical instrument pure energy xd 💕
👍
I've seen a video where a guy uses double delta sigma modulation instead of pwm and he could play not only midi, but random audio signals on his tesla
he even built his own stripped down 7 bit processor to fit into FPGA and run all of this

You can pull them out of old tv's or crt monitors, you have to rewind them a little bit. they are dangerous of course so you've been warned (VIDEO LINK BELOW). The triggering circuit for the music I'm not familiar with, but that's where the flyback Xformers come from. ua-cam.com/video/7HwwqGyKkpk/v-deo.html
Just make it dude...
@@TheShadowCamo flyback transformers cannot be rewound (not without depotting them and a lot of bother) , and the ones in the video definitely were used in their as-manufactured state.
@@kmoecub by rewounding he meant 5-15 turns of wire around ferromagnetic core as primary for the zvs or the driver
@@TheShadowCamo Thanks. I repair CRT monitors. Flybacks are reproduced today and easy to get. It's more the PCB I was referring to. The average hobbyist doesn't have the means to make one of those that easily.
Hey, @franzolielectronics, ive been following your path from the times where most of music was edited in, and one puny tesla coil with tin foil cap played couple notes. Its so cool to watch you grow and evolve with your projects!
I swear to god these notes were sung better than an singer. This is a certified banger thank you so much for that.

these new flyback kits really have beautiful fidelity bravo! franzoli , king of the coil !
Such a beautiful high note! 😭
Using a cheap mp3 is such a smart idea. I spend so much time getting Bluetooth to work on multiple channels.
I wouldn't expect anything radio-based to work nearby such an installation.
Almost as good if not a better than the jojo theme one great job
This is by far, one of the coolest projects I have seen on UA-cam for some time. It's very tempting to have a look at your schematics, but I think it would be quite an achievement to take on this project and design it from the ground up. It will make a nice winter time project. Thank you for sharing your work. Thumbs up and a sub from me.
Love it
The resolution of these is pretty good, sound like near perfect square waves.
Isso é arte😌
Feels like playing and old NES game.
Very 8-bit/chiptune sounding, agreed.
Do cruel angel's thesis
Wow! That natural analog sound!
I can see from the website it uses 24V/15A for power and an RCA jack for sound, but what is the signal going through the RCA jack? Is it like a square wave or is it actual audio?
Edit: Might be wrong but from more inspection of the schematic it seems to be using a comparator to tell if the incoming signal is higher than some threshold. Probably uses square waves because of their fast transitions and then turns that into a control signal for the oscillator.
This is what literal electronic music sounds like, or should I say, ELECTRIC music
Fastest click in the west
Sounds like a wonderful 8bit game soundtrack and i love it
Very nice achievement. How much sound is from the transformer cores and how much from the Anode?
This project has a lot of potential - sorry - bit of a touchy subject?
99%+ is from the arc.
Impressionante como o som saiu absurdamente limpo. Escutar algumas chiptune nos plasmas é a coisa mais linda do mundo...

Oh man, I am definitely making this. I was going to make an SSTC for this purpose but seeing this work, I think I will make this first.

Love the static arcs on the carpet.
Dude, I'm gonna learn how to do this JUST for doing music lol

Be safe with high voltage dont try this if you have no expirence
@@HighVoltageMadness thank you, I'm checking your channel so I can get a little more advice, thanks!
When the flyback transformer in my old TV when out it sounded like a Star Trek Phaser on overload as smoke poured out the back. I drug the burning TV out onto the front porch while half expecting it to explode.
Do these drivers come as kits or are they custom made? I badly need two.
No, as they are very very dangerous, one slipup and you are dead instantly (you won't even no about it), they never be on sale as kits. This energy will leap on you if you are near it. No grounding or any metal should be five metres around this in any direction. Metal also includes metal studs on your jeans.
TV engineers many have then tips of they fingers or finger/s blow / cut off, and thats being very lucky.
There are retro telsa clubs who do this monthly.
I am a RTEEB licenced engineer.
@@pqrstzxerty1296 thank you for your concern but unfortunately I have already built one but can't integrate a sound module in it. The interference makes the sound driver go haywire. So overall sound is like a huge hissy, noisy buzz. So I need a full proof schematic, or you could be generous enough to give me a tip on how to fix this problem.
Any song on this channel would make a perfect ring tone
