BC man one of 1st Canadians compensated for injury due to COVID-19 vaccine

- Being able to walk, albeit with orthopedic braces, is not something Ross Wightman takes for granted. Wightman, 40, suffers from Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare condition that affects the nervous system.
A husband and father of two young boys, the Okanagan man said he was diagnosed with the disorder last spring, less than two weeks after receiving the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
Just days after getting the shot, he started to experience extreme back pain.
“The pain got worse and worse,” Wightman said.
He was diagnosed with the disorder and spent the next 67 days in the hospital.
Now, after nearly a year of paperwork and medical submissions, Wightman is one of only a handful of Canadians to have the illness validated as a vaccine-related injury by the federal government.
He’s now been approved for compensation from the Vaccine Injury Support Program.

I'm more than happy to help this man through my tax dollars as I would want the same help in that position, but it's absurd the liability is not on the manufacturer. Considering the profits they raked in during the 'crisis', I'm pretty sure they can afford it. I know a handful of people injured from this and none are receiving anything close to compensation and the cause is not even being acknowledged by their doctors or medical teams. I sure hope this man makes a full recovery and can participate in his children's lives like he had hoped.
If they had to pay for all the disabilities and deaths they would be in debt, not making huge profits. This man did it because he wanted to get the Vax, but he does not sound angry even at himself, so that I find strange. He's lucky to get anything, millions of people have gotten nothing.
You have no clue what you are talking about. With mass vaccinations in the Billions, there will be cases of compensation. As with literally every medication in existence, there is always a small risk of injury due to adverse effects. This is nothing new.

Same here, two months ago my uncle is suffering from blood clots. Two other people I know from my workplace are suffering from serious adverse effects. They said these conditions are supposed to be “rare”, but it seem like it’s more damaging than the virus itself.
I know very few people who didn't feel any consequences after shots. Some had day or few days long illness, some were sick for weeks. I personally don't know anybody who died of Covid or vaxx but, I have heard of both from other people. And, I probably know 100+ people who had Covid.

Actually, just in the last month, four people told me they had 2-3 shots and got hit hard by Convid. Hard hit meaning flu like instead of cold like that most people tell me. In my family we were all exposed. So far, none of us got it. In best case, vaxx doesn't do anything against Certificate Of Vaxx ID (aka Covid), the name used in gov contracts in early Fall of 2019. Months before its name was used.

My friend had a stroke within an hour of getting the first dose of Pfizer, he’s fully vaccinated and since then he’s been hospitalized twice with covid. He’s 32 and lives a fairly healthy lifestyle. He regrets getting the shots everyday but did it to keep his job…

I think the rate of adverse reactions is much higher than anyone wants to admit. I know of 13 serious adverse events In my small community. That’s 1 in 1000.

My sister developed an inflammatory condition on her large intestine, she was puking non stop for two weeks, I thought she was going to die. She has made a small recovery but she has misses or near misses reaching the bathroom, low control of her bowel movements. Shes 38 years old, not 83.

I didn't get the vaccine, and haven't been sick
Good I don't recommend it after a year and a half I'm still experiencing what is Asthma I'm wheezing and having breathing issues it all started not even 24 hours into getting the second shot try 8 hours before I had a 1 minute long episode of wheezing without warning. I have yet to recover and am trying to find medication or maybe look into surgery to see if they can fix this because I'm inhaler dependent at this point I have to take them everyday just to not get bad. A booster is out of the question for sure
My mother had a seizure because of vaccines and my sister since she took the vaccine has lost a finger and has infections happening.

Is asthma on the list because I definitely been diagnosed with it a couple weeks ago twice it's been a year and a half and I'm unable to get it under control it requires everyday inhaler treatments when 7 years ago it only took a couple to get me threw a whole year or more now that the vaccine triggered my asthma it's the worse it's ever been. Turns out I had developed lactose intolerance from the flu vaccine and going undiagnosed it caused asthma. This may be what your dealing with? Try cutting out dairy and see what happens, takes a while for the undigested lactose to leave your system almost a year to feel 100 percent like yourself again

Why is there no criminal persecution of those inflicting injury and/or death? If this guy was hit by car, a driver would be responsible in the court of law. They knew from start and numbers of injuries are much much higher although not always as obvious.

2 family members are now having constant seizures after getting the pfizer shot. Being forced to keep their jobs now they are on full meds with seizure attacks 3-4 times a day.

I experienced the same reaction as a teenager but the connection to the vaccination I had wasn't made until years later. I’m keep faith even though it’s hard.
I’m struggling putting groceries in the refrigerator, and paying bills. I lost my job because I declined the vaccine. I declined because of my pre existing health condition (Lupus) and Heart disease. I was denied my medical/religious exemption from Forsyth Hospital. My husband passed away three years ago, Im all alone. I’m a single mother. Both of my sons are autistic and non verbal. Every month is a struggle, a battle to not end up on the streets. I’m so depressed and embarrassed by my situation. I’ve been put down and mocked because of my circumstances. BUT even after all these things. I STILL HAVE FAITH GOD WILL PROVIDE. EVEN as I face homelessness seemly every month with two young children. I have faith our Heavenly Father will provide.
