I honestly wasn't upset that DAMN. wasn't on this list. What I am a bit upset about is that 4:44 and Flower Boy weren't on this list. Those albums defined this year for me, along with ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADA$$. But, that doesn't matter. It's your best albums list, not mine.

Great list. I would agree with Goths as number one, but for one record - Peasants by Richard Dawson. I think this record would be right up your alley: very lyrical, very weird, and has plenty of personality carrying the album through. I don't know if you've listened to this record, but please give it a try, I honestly think you'll love it (I should really get around to signing up for your Patreon). Anyways, great list - thanks for always recommending great music.
Agree with both those points. Peasants came outta no where for me and holy rigatoni is it great and songs like Ogre, Soldier, and Weaver are some of the greatest folk tunes I've heard in a while. Mount Eerie's new record is still my personal number 1 of this year, but Goths and Peasants are definitely in my "Top Number Value Here" list of 2017.
Great list, man! 2017 was also a year with lots of musical highlights for me. Let‘s hope for a great 2018 as well! Here are my ten favorite albums of the year: 1. Lorde - "Melodrama" 2. Brand New - "Science Fiction" 3. Open Mike Eagle - "Brick Body Kids Still Daydream" 4. Phoebe Bridgers - "Stranger In the Alps" 5. The xx - "I See You" 6. Run the Jewels - "Run the Jewels 3" 7. Spoon - "Hot Thoughts" 8. Chelsea Wolfe - "Hiss Spun" 9. St. Vincent - "MASSEDUCTION" 10. Brockhampton - "Saturation II"
Great list (jus like every year, seriously, these year ends lists are my favorites). My personal top three were: Creeper, Eternity in Your Arms Lorde, Melodrama And Kesha’s Rainbow.
In 2017 I listened to very few genres and albums. I stuck with a set few artists, and I'm disappointed that I didn't explore more music this year, because looking at all of the top songs/albums of 2017 lists, I feel like I missed out on a lot. A have too much to catch up with

He did not cover that much Rock/Prog this year, but as a Patron I'll see what I can do to adjust that in the upcoming year :) In the meantime, I'd reccomend checking out Ron Gallo. He's got an awesome EP coming out this month.
Is 2017 the best year for great albums in the 2010s? I think it is for me personally, just too many all time favorites this year, and rewatching this count down is a good reminder of that.
My top 5 is 5.4eva is a Might Long Time 4. Take Me Apart 3. CTRL/ SATURATION I 2. Melodrama 1. MASSEDUCTION I put CTRL and SATURATION cause they were both equally relatable and emotional.
Honestly, I think I'm anticipating the Death Grips & Clipping the most right now. Death Grips a bit more as long as their newest album doesn't sound like their Steroids EP that greatly disappointed me this year.
Justin Timberlake's releasing his country album in February, although it's hard to say how good it will be. There's also Franz Ferdinand, Kimbra, Muse, and Pistol Annies.
Since you didn't get time to listen to much Metal this past year, here are some albums I think you will enjoy; Threshold - Legends of the Shires (Progressive Metal) Satan's Hallow - Satan's Hallow (Traditional Metal) Elder - Reflections of a Floating World Lunar Shadow - Far From Light Leprous - Melina Zornheym - Where Hatred Dwells and Darkness Reigns Ex People - Bird And going forward into 2018, I'm looking forward to the new Summoning album (which I have already preordered), as well as the new Watain!

Please tell me I'm not tr only person that had never heard of the mountain goats until john green mentioned them on vlogbothers? I feel like I'm alone there lmao
Personal favourite albums of the year: (Scum Fuck) Flower Boy by Tyler, The Creator (my AOTY), Rainbow by Kesha, and No Culture by Mother Mother. I'll def try and check out some of this list's albums at some point!
Great list. I personally would have swapped number 2 and number 1 (spoilers in the rest of the post), if for no other reason than that "Wedding Ghosts" is a better song than "For the Portuguese Goth Metal Bands" (not that both aren't good songs), although really because... I feel Open Mike Eagle came in with more ambition, and took more risk. Both took risks, and both risks paid off in big ways, but Open Mike Eagle aimed higher to me. This is mainly something in the sequencing for me. Goths was a broad view where thematically you could shuffle the order of some of its middle tracks. There is a specific processing of trauma that comes when you follow the kind of gentle vulnerability of "Hymnal" with the aggressive posturing of "No Selling" to the rushed, futile need for action in "Happy Wasteland Day" to the resignation to fantasy in "daydreaming in the projects" ....I could go on, maybe it's not intended connections, but for me it hits hard. Though again, fantastic list. To a great 2018 :)
Mark has stated before that he does not really care to highlight the worst albums. It's not fun for him to listen back to, and it doesn't add much to the culture persay. Worst Hit Songs talks about songs that succeeded with the mainstream public, it is analyzing the music that is both bad and most likely to stick around with the culture, define the year. But like, he doesn't need to highlight AJR again, nor does he need impitus to cover some more of the worst records that have been released. If he would not encourage one to purchase them, then he doesn't feel it that valuable a use of his time.
Lorde, Fen, and Algiers are the only of these I got, blah. Even passed on Steven Wilson as that one didn't do much for me. I'd try to get you more metal but yeah the other patreons just, didn't make it happen so ehh :/ #1 just needs to score a pop hit to get the hat trick, now, ehh?
He did review Divide, although I'm not sure you'd agree with his opinion on it. But he did put an Ed Sheeren song in his Top 50 best songs of the year. He covered over 200 albums this year, so well, any song to hit that list is one he considers to be quite grand.
My Top 12 (i aint got 25) 12. The Bigger Artist by A Boogie wit da Hoodie 11. Culture by Migos 10. Mr. Davis by Gucci Mane 9. A Love Letter to You by Trippie Redd 8. Still Striving by A$AP Ferg 7. Brilliant list, all of the albums I recognise here certainly are great! Thanks especially for number 15, I was really hoping it would make your list!
The Social Tune love your channel, can tell you are a big spectrum pulse fan from your style though. ☺️
That awkward moment when “1999” is one of your favorite songs off of 4eva is a mighty long time.
Chad Copenhagen I hate that song but that album might be the best rap album of the year
I can’t believe The Click, Revival, and Witness were your top three wow
All the work you put in to your videos, especially with these year-end lists, is much appreciated. Happy 2018!
I can't believe you made The Click your #1
SPOILERS DUDE
The 1 he gave it wasn't the score, it was the rank on his year-end list.
*insert Gladion reference here*

Great list. I would agree with Goths as number one, but for one record - Peasants by Richard Dawson. I don't know if you've listened to this record, but please give it a try, I honestly think you'll love it (I should really get around to signing up for your Patreon).

Oh boy, I can't wait to see what albums you picked over Ayreon and Chelsea Wolfe. And Steven Wilson...and Diablo Swing Orchestra.
Oh hey, Steven Wilson made it. That's good. Many picks are good here, but it needs more rock/prog representation.
He did not cover that much Rock/Prog this year, but as a Patron I'll see what I can do to adjust that in the upcoming year :)
In the meantime, I'd reccomend checking out Ron Gallo. He's got an awesome EP coming out this month.

Honestly, I think I'm anticipating the Death Grips & Clipping the most right now. Death Grips a bit more as long as their newest album doesn't sound like their Steroids EP that greatly disappointed me this year.
David The new Nas album
Idk, maybe a better Taylor Swift album. From what I heard (LWYMMD, Ready For It, & End Game), it's not good
* New My Bloody Valentine album
* Brian / Rich Chigga debut album
* New Nas album
Justin Timberlake's releasing his country album in February, although it's hard to say how good it will be. There's also Franz Ferdinand, Kimbra, Muse, and Pistol Annies.
I'm getting really tired of these fake spoiler comments.
You should tell that to Anthony Fantano, then. Many of those fuckers likely came from him first and foremost.
Crazy Luigi whats wrong with anthony fantano fans ☹ WHATS WRONG WITH ME MOM
You. And. Me. Both.
Since you didn't get time to listen to much Metal this past year, here are some albums I think you will enjoy;
Threshold - Legends of the Shires (Progressive Metal)
Satan's Hallow - Satan's Hallow (Traditional Metal)
Elder - Reflections of a Floating World
Lunar Shadow - Far From Light
Leprous - Melina
Zornheym - Where Hatred Dwells and Darkness Reigns

Sremmlife 2 didn't even come out this year, but I guess I resoect you putting it at every spot of your top 5
How did Brand New not make the list?
There was a lot of great albums. I'm not certain that if the allegations hadn't came out that the record would have actually made it.
You should’ve expanded your list if you felt that you were cutting so many out
I can't remember when but El-P said he was working on Run The Jewels 4 on his Twitter at some point
i legitimately would have been perfectly fine with you waiting another week or so and putting out a top 50
my top five:
5. Visions of a Life - Wolf Alice
4. Pure Comedy - Father John Misty
3. Lust for Life - Lana Del Rey
2. DAMN. - Kendrick Lamar

"Hey dad, I think I found all the music you wanted for your adult prom thingy in one place."
There was much a broad range of genres on here.
Is Mark a stay at home dad now?
YESSS!!!!! RUN THE JEWELS 3 CAME OUT ON JANUARY 13TH, 2017!!!!!!
Please tell me I'm not tr only person that had never heard of the mountain goats until john green mentioned them on vlogbothers? I feel like I'm alone there lmao
WiltingDaisy same here same here - we should ask if spectrum pulse is a nerdfighter?
@spectrumpulse Reveal your inner nerd
Shall we ask on Twitter?
Cant believe you put black metal in top 10, ive never seen you reviewing black metal
Personal favourite albums of the year: (Scum Fuck) Flower Boy by Tyler, The Creator (my AOTY), Rainbow by Kesha, and No Culture by Mother Mother. I'll def try and check out some of this list's albums at some point!
Where tf is Sremmlife 2?
HELL YEAH SPECTRUM PULSE BRINGIN' THAT MOUNTAIN GOATS LOVE
Brand New Science Fiction is the best album of 2017 and the entire decade no question imo!!
I didn’t even know mountain goats had a new album out this year
I hope FJM is on here. That album grew on me a lottt especially after purchasing the beautiful vinyl
Damn
CKdiner rip
you NEED to listen to cut copy
Should we expect a Mark and Myke beef? Those bars would be fire boi
Wow, Jhene Aiko 'Trip' album got a 9 from you and didn't make the cut. Confused.
It actually got an 8, It's a fair enough thing to misremember, I just thought I'd look it up to ease confusion :P
Aron puma oh darn, it’s a 9 for souled out and 8 for Trip lol my bad
How come you don't make worst albums lists??
Mark has stated before that he does not really care to highlight the worst albums. It's not fun for him to listen back to, and it doesn't add much to the culture persay. Worst Hit Songs talks about songs that succeeded with the mainstream public, it is analyzing the music that is both bad and most likely to stick around with the culture, define the year.
But like, he doesn't need to highlight AJR again, nor does he need impitus to cover some more of the worst records that have been released. If he would not encourage one to purchase them, then he doesn't feel it that valuable a use of his time.
Mark wearing a tux hurts...
melodrama should be #1
Someone comment it omg
No jhene again
my freinds , this is a long video!
17 is #1? wow
ALGIERS!!!
Guessing Rainbow is in the top 10
Rip masseduction :(
Two of its songs got on the best songs list so... I won't call it a total loss.
Aron puma both in the top 40 though
Totally disagree with the Steven Wilson comment. Hand. Cannot. Erase. is way better.

ALL RIGHT I CAN MAKE ANOTHER TROLL LIST
25. What Makes You Countr...

Bruh no one is gonna say the Nashville sound was a huge political culture stomp lol
my mans looking like a mormon
Creeper? :(
#16 👌🏻👌🏻🙌🏻
Number of albums on this list that received Best New Music from Pitchfork: 4
I consider that to be a very good thing!
Nice suit
Hello yes Fen - Winter better make the top 5
You betray me.
I love 'all these countless nights' but it is not quite as good as thier previous record old souls.
Lorde, Fen, and Algiers are the only of these I got, blah. Even passed on Steven Wilson as that one didn't do much for me.
I'd try to get you more metal but yeah the other patreons just, didn't make it happen so ehh :/
#1 just needs to score a pop hit to get the hat trick, now, ehh?
Y U no like electronic music
He did not end up covering much electronic music in 2017. May change in the upcoming year.
No divide ed...
He did review Divide, although I'm not sure you'd agree with his opinion on it.
But he did put an Ed Sheeren song in his Top 50 best songs of the year. He covered over 200 albums this year, so well, any song to hit that list is one he considers to be quite grand.
Wow, what a choice making Stoney your number one AGAIN!
