      Hi Fratello!
So nice to hear from you. I love sharing the story of my return to faith. I’ve had the honor of speaking to young people who struggle and their families. Love it. We’re seeing many people drawn back to activity which gives me great hope. But of course, it’s always in the Lord’s time. Faith and patience!

I needed to hear this as I am coming out of the darkest spiritual time I've ever had. It took me nearly 8 years to ask myself, "Was I deceived?" As Wade said, I thought I knew everything, leading me out of the church. However, just a few days ago, I decided to read "Bamboozled by the CES Letter," and "A Faithful Reply to the CES Letter." I came across this one thing that changed everything: if you are LOOKING for it to NOT be true, you will always find that with which you agree. I was looking for anything that would show me that it was not true, so I could get out from the pressure of what I thought I needed to be the perfect Latter-Day Saint and not find answers to my doubts. But what I did was throw the baby out with the bathwater, and it nearly destroyed my marriage. Thankfully my husband of 30 years stayed with me, but every single child left the church, and even though they said it wasn't because of me, I can't help but feel I had SOME influence - how could I not have? I hope that my coming back into the fold will one day have some influence on them to come back too, but if not, I will always love and support them.

I left, but didn't actually remove my name. Almost eight years ago. "Bamboozled" didn't do anything for me. I don't believe in LDS, but there are times when I miss the fellowship. I think of going back, but I don't want to be hypocritical by going for the fellowship when I don't believe. I am still a Christian believer, and I have come to understand Christ in a different way (like the Trinity). I understand why many people believe again and go back, and I wish them the best. I wish the best for you and yours.

I love these podcasts - there are some general themes to each individuals journey that are helpful for me when considering ways to support others on their journey. It does seem to come down to the importance of individuals having personal experiences/miracles. We can support/love people until those personal experiences hopefully occur.
Regarding the "solutions to issues/questions" - as I listen broadly to podcasts, I see members reconcile them in different ways - for example with polygamy - those who have come back to the church reconcile the issues in a wide variety of ways - one reading ancestors journals, another determining polygamy was a mistake -but one is still a prophet when they make mistakes - and others still have questions, but are able to make them less central to their faith. Highlights the individuality of the journey
I love Wade's comments on the perception of prophets as a "super hero" - I think there was a phase in the church in the 60's/70's/80's where the church was over-claiming and creating a perception of "church has the answer to everything" - I think Wade grew up in that culture (I did as well). As part of "coming out of the wilderness", I feel the church teachings are maturing in this area- though I do feel some of this change was reacting to facts coming out independently vs the church leading in sharing that accurate picture of how God works through flawed prophets (which I think is very powerful as Wade outlined).

Joseph Smith made mistakes, sure. He's human, not Christ. However, they were not the grevieous moral sins that he was and is (even by "believing" LDS members, sadly) accused of. Go back and read what he said and taught privately as well as publicly, from sources that weren't apostates and conspiring to kill him. I did this experiment last month and it blew me away. It's opened up further questions about his successors, but my mind is settled regarding Joseph, THE Prophet of the Restoration. How I love that great, good man.

37:00 I know what you mean. I have always been intellectually curious and when I would dip my toe into a ‘taboo’ topic, I would be worried that this could negatively affect my testimony. Fortunately, that never happened for me - that is not my struggle in life, though I do have others!
Now, I vigorously pursue delving into knowledge and the pursuit of truth. I do not shy away from it when sharing with my kids, because I believe it should be part of their knowledge and their testimony.
We are hubris and culturally insensitive society, which can make it difficult and jarring when we hear or learn something contrary to our known paradigm.
The truth is much more appealing and inviting to me! Knowing that prophets are flawed men and seeing what they can achieve should give us hope and inspiration! Seeing so many ‘broken’ men and women on this podcast that are now spiritually thriving is an inspiration! The power of the atonement of Christ is visible and evident here.
This podcast is helping me understand what happened to so many of my fellow missionaries, companions, and friends and how they could ‘leave the gospel’ after preaching about it.

I’m 57, the church hiding and denying JS polygamy and hiding the true history has caused a lot of us 30 and older to leave.
Now, they’re being more transparent. But it’s a little too late.
The most growth is outside the USA now.
My brother warned 2 apostles in the 1990s to come clean. He was doing his PhD and had access to the LDS locked library and read pioneer journals. He begged the apostles to not “white wash” the history.
Instead, they said to stop digging or they’d excommunicate him. He removed his name instead, in the mid-1990s.
If they had come clean earlier, 25 years earlier, this mass exodus would not have happened. This younger generation wants truth and transparency.

Real question: does hiding something, while maybe not the right decision, make the church not true? I hide stuff from my kids all of the time because they're not ready to learn it yet. God keeps things hidden from us all the time. And yet, maybe it was wrong..but thay alone doesn't define the restoration does it? JS still could have received the plates and priesthood. The fruits of this movement seem to suggest that it couldn't have been a sham. Why get so focused on polygamy? Esp when we aren't privy to everything that happened?

      @dr33776 8 місяців тому

@@racealexander1660 they didn’t hide some minor flaw such as JS smoking or drinking after the WoW was revealed, oh wait the church did that. The foundation of the church is very questionable, how can a guy that was taken to court for being a fraud in 1826 be called as a prophet of God just a few years later? How about Joseph Fielding Smith cutting the 1832 first vision account where JS claimed to have seen only Jesus? How about all the changes to the revelations, scriptures, and doctrines that the church now claims were never canonized? The church has systematically lied and hidden its embarrassing history to keep the members in. The internet is putting an end to the church dishonesty.

I struggle a lot with rationalizing things away. When you shared the story of paying tithing and the salary that you were going to get, my mind rationalized it away by thinking it's not a miracle because anyone that searches for a job is going to look for a certain income from that job. All he did was look for jobs that pay you that amount and one of them gave you a call back. Anyway I don't mean this in a jerky way. That's just how my mind works sometimes. Maybe there's more to the story or there's something I don't understand.

    • @letsgocountry1242
      @letsgocountry1242 Рік тому +7

Hi Kolby. Wade here. I genuinely understand what you're saying. I often think exactly the same way! Can human beings mistake fortunate events and coincidences for miracles? Absolutely. Conversely, can we sometimes explain away or minimize authentic miracles as coincidences? Yep. We can be mistaken both ways, I think. So I have come to believe that it's a choice at just about every turn. Think about the miracles reported in the New Testament. They come to us by way of "believers." No doubt, just like today, there were countless people who chose not believe. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead? No way - he probably wasn't really totally dead...they just couldn't tell. He turned water into wine? Not possible. They probably just added water to containers that still had some wine in them. And so on. Some people chose to believe - other chose not to believe.
I really believe that that gray area is part of our mortal circumstances. It seems there has to be a reasonable opportunity to believe either way to maintain our agency, maybe. I think God provides us just enough to believe, but also, just enough not to believe is we so choose.
With respect to my finding work, I had just decided not to limit my perception of the world to my intellectual lens only. I was trying to apply my heart somehow. What made those events convincing to me, in part, was the context and the timing. I had only hours before decided to put God to the test, so to speak. " Ok God, if you're really there and looking out for me, help me now. And here's exactly how you can show me." And He did. Given the circumstances and the deepest desires of my heart, I was powerfully compelled to choose to believe.
All that said, I understand your point. You're not wrong!

I now understand that Tithing is an Old Covenant law that was fulfilled, like the old law of not eating pork or shellfish. We are under a New Covenant that leads us to the Second Coming of Christ. This is signified by what happened when Jesus died on the cross--the temple veil was torn in two. The Old Covenant is fulfilled, and the New Covenant is now in effect.
I understand that I can't tell anyone else what to believe, but what I read in the NT is that we are now to be Cheerful Givers. There is no numerical demand. The Holy Spirit can move you as to how much you, as an individual, should give.

How exactly were the concerns resolved resulting in their return to the Church? I watched this episode a few days ago and wanted to make some comments but didn’t have the time so I’m circling back now to be self up. I remembered things correctly.
While this was a pretty amazing story of paying tithing and securing new employment, perhaps as a result of that, I think we sometimes incorrectly use this as evidence that the church is true. I don’t think that you are necessarily directly connected although they can be they’re not required to be.
I think in listening to his story, I don’t necessarily see anything uniquely connected to confirm that the church is true, it’s more like certain assumptions are being made I things that we were told in the church while growing up, for example, if we receive elevated feelings by reading a book of Mormon. We automatically know the church is true and that Russell and Nelson is gods profit today, but I think as one gets older, and you just want critical thinking skills , those things are not necessarily connected as easily as they tell you are in the church
I’ve enjoyed listening to the podcast, however, as one who has stepped away from the church, I’m always fascinated to hear the stories of those who have returned, and the reasons for why they do so.
thanks for putting this podcast together.
It helped me continue to understand I’m not crazy for stepping away.

He was just giving one example of something that made him start to reconsider. Don't forget the promptings he kept having in his head telling him to pay tithing. That's a random thought for an inactive member to have over and over again, isn't it?
100% guarantee that life outside the church is not better than life in. Have you ever felt the spirit so strong that you couldn't bear the thought of it leaving? It's a place of pure joy. And you know it's real because you're literally willing to give up all your sins and imperfections and hand them to God. To have your heart changed by the spirit is a miracle.
These things have to be sought with eyes to see, and ears to hear. Broken heart. Humility. God will reveal himself to you in the book of mormon and in sincere prayer if you seek him.

@@racealexander1660 Life outside the church is now going on 4 years vs 26 years in the church and I’m not feeling too much different. It’s all about perspective. I’m still happily married, I don’t drink or smoke, etc. Life in the church couldn’t continue for me because of the doctrinal problems and truth claim challenges. I realize some people can navigate or nuance these but not possible for me. The church taught me that my feelings were a way for me to know the doctrinal truths of the church. After leaving, I discovered that my feelings aren’t always the best way to determine something. How many times have you had a feeling about something and it turned out to mean something different? How many bishops have been called who weren’t supposed to be in that position, etc. How many church prophets change what previous church prophets received by revelation? Were those not strong feelings received by the prior prophets? Once one determines that feelings can mean any number of things, it changes a lot about what we’ve been taught in church classes, on our missions, etc. There’s a video floating out there on UA-cam where people from various faiths testify how their feelings have led them to know the truth about their own beliefs. The church has a lot of control over how we feel about ourselves and our “worthiness” but having stepped back for 4 years now, I can clearly see it. I won’t let any person or institution tell me again what my worth is. We all make mistakes. You call them sins but I don’t anymore because it grants too much control for the institution that shows the path to forgiveness. There’s too many holes in the institution of any church for me to believe they know my eternal destiny or a supposed path that leads to eternal bliss.

Hi Ken. Excellent question. I found that almost nothing can be said that changes a person’s thinking…in the short-term. I remember dismissing just about everything my father had to say to me.
That said, I do believe it’s possible to plant seeds that do have an effect down the road if/when a person begins to reconsider. Reconsideration, I believe, only comes from the inside at the individual’s own pace, even if it’s triggered by outside events or trauma.
I think this kind of video would have stuck with me out of curiosity at least. I would have been curious how one could possibly be intellectually satisfied with a testimony because that seemed impossible to me at the time.
That would have interested me. So that is something I try to communicate - that it is certainly possible to come to a well-reasoned and rational conviction that the Gospel is true (as a supplement to the spiritual witness). My hope is that opens the door, if only out of curiosity, and maybe provides the possibility of a path back to faith.
So to answer your question more succinctly, had I seen something like this I would have dismissed it in the short-term but it would also have stuck with me.
      God bless.

Guys… you don’t need to listen to a video about a guy coming back to the church in order to have peace in your soul about your family members leaving. They are still good people! They are courageous people. They are acting with integrity the best way that they know how. Same as you. There are many good things about the church. There are also a lot of toxic things about the church. Your family members who left did not leave YOU, they just left the harmful things about the church.
Have some faith in this god you say loves you so much. Do you actually think God does not want coffee drinkers with him? Or open-minded freethinkers? This is a great opportunity for you to really feel out the type of person you think God is.

    • @racealexander1660
      @racealexander1660 8 місяців тому

It's not that God doesn't want coffee drinkers. God, who is pure, cannot, by spiritual law, be in the presence of people not living those same laws. It's not that he doesn't want to. It's that they can't abide his presence.
He requires a broken heart and contrite spirit that will lead people to accept the atonement, so that they can be forgiven. This requires us to sacrifice our will, i.e., the things we want to do? And replace them with what He wants us to do, including the ordinances.
Again, at the end of the day it's not about random actions or commandments. It's about our will to follow God in all things. Those who say, "it's only (coffee, a movie, sex, etc etc)", are basically saying, " I know better. I'll do what I want." And that's obviously an option. Millions of people do it.
His sheep don't say that. They say, "I'll do what you want. No matter how big. No matter how small."

When you seek answers from the Book of Mormon instead of the Bible, God can't help you because you have turned your back on Him. Therefore this leaves the door open for Satan (II Corinthians 11:14-15) to step into your life with a false christ or prophet showing you signs and wonders to lead you away from the real Jesus of the Bible who is God the Son 2nd person of the Trinity. God Himself warns us about this in MATTHEW 24:23-24 "Then if anyone says to you, Look, here is the Christ! or There! do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect..."
Mormons teach and believe that their jesus is the brother of Satan, which contradicts what God says in His Bible that Jesus is God the Son 2nd person of the Trinity.
So Mormons, which Jesus do you believe in?

Moroni 7:16 For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God. 17 But whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ, and deny him, and serve not God, then ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil; for after this manner doth the devil work, for he persuadeth no man to do good, no, not one; neither do his angels; neither do they who subject themselves unto him.

@Nathan Bigler first of all, your arguments are bouncing all over the place, which tells me you're only repeating rhetoric you hear from other people ands you don't actually know very much. Second, what is your evidence that queer youth in the church have a higher rate of self-deletion than any other religious group? Where are your numbers? The last figures I saw (and I believe they were published by GLAAD even) showed that all LGBTQ youth hurt themselves at the same rate regardless of their religious affiliation or having none at all. It's a mental health crisis, not a church crisis.
Finally, wtf are you talking about regarding racism? Show me specific proofs of systemic racism within the church in the current day. We all know about the racist ban up until '78 and we all agree that it was bad; but that was then and is not how we function now. What's your proof? My guess is that your argument is based on a very low knowledge of the world outside the U.S., maybe even outside your own state. And please explain how, if the church is so racist, it's growing the fastest in South America and Africa.
