I forgot that SGDQ 2017 had audio issues and there is no right side audio, so if you don't hear much for the Spyro 3 clip... that's why.

Hope you guys enjoy though, I loved this video concept.
EZScape One thing I appreciate it is when a runner has to use a backup strat to save a run. Maybe that could be an idea for a future video? Always great content EZ!
@@Dracula_sb That's a dope idea too. I actually had that one written down. Definitely a possibility later on.
Great video 👍
I really liked this video!
smallant1 created the "XD" skip in mario odyssey, it saves no time but just lools more stylish
We really need a "cool%" category where you just do all the cool shit until you finish the game
Reminds me of a Japanese touring car racer called Keiichi Tsuchiya. He was a good driver but would always drift turns rather than take them normally. When he was asked why he did this, he said “it just looks cool”.
Every swag move is a -[amount] of seconds of the total time
The closest thing I know of to this is a run of Sonic the Hedgehog 1 by Dr. Fatbody. He's an incredibly charismatic individual, and he tries EVERY glitch and strat AT LEAST ONCE, because otherwise you wouldn't see it. And since it's an early Sonic game, the run is pretty short. I suggest it if you find yourself with half an hour to spare. ua-cam.com/video/DayNOf9PkQ0/v-deo.html
@@MillywiggZ It's a bit different. He's the father of drifting and he invented it because nobody could ever beat him, so he started sliding corners just because it makes you go slower but looks awesome, and still nobody could beat him so he started making the slides longer and longer and holding more and more angle until he discovered what we now know as drifting, the art of style racing.
Teddy Skrub;
It’s difficult to gather information with the language barrier. I was going off a quote from a US article on kaido racers, drifting came up in the article.
He’s in need of a ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’ style documentary.
Better see XD skip here.
Edit: there is no XD skip it comes from Smallant1 in his SMO speedruns
XD isn't really a Swag strat, considering Ant would be killed if he didn't perform it. Don't you think?
@@GuiiSanttoss That makes it even more swag.
This is the only thing I was looking for
I was gonna say the same thing smh
XD is more than just swag
Ez: **put two titanfall 2 swag strats for intro and outro but doesn’t talk about them**
Every pilot: **SHAME**
The Flame I mean they kinda speak for themselves and I think they might’ve been from agdq vids
“Saving Eli” at the end of half life 2 episode 2 when the speed runner chucks an object at a super precise location over the warehouse to kill the advisors and glitch the ending cutscene
There's also XD skip which some runners are legally required to do
Missed a legend
Small ant
XD everyone, XD
“Box shaped controllers normally used for fighting games like smash”
I see you EZScape
The most swag thing I've seen in a speedrun that I always will remember is from a GDQ run of Mario Sunhine.
In the Pianta Village stage, where you chase Il Piantissimo, the runner runs next to Piantissimo the entire race, mimicing his jumps, flips and turns in perfect syncronisation, until a couple of seconds before the finish.
Link please
I got two for Super Mario Odyssey:
1. In cloud kingdom you can do a thing called a cloud boost which save a little bit of time but on one person goes for it because it’s too risky. His name is Fir by the way.
2. In Moon kingdom in the section where your bowser and in 2D you can do a skip called XD skip. There are three different versions of XD skip. XD skip, True XD skip, and True True XD skip. None of them save time
The severity of the truth is a measure of how much time you lose by doing it
What about Super Mario Odyssey XD skip at the end of the game?
"XD guys! XDDDDD" - Smallant1
This was my thought exactly when clicking this video
Is it swag if I'm legally required to do it?
@@Smallant
Hey Smallant lmao, didn't expect to see you here. I was also thinking about XD skip.
I was gonna say that
Bro the drop onto the bell in the shadow temple boat in oot 100%.
Zfg used to do it but stopped cause of how risky it was, being a post dampe strat that saves no time and kills the run if you fail it, but it would be sick to see it featured.
Great to see some Titanfall 2 in here! I absolutely adore that game.
Also the conveyor lane trick in the beginning is pure swag. It's hard, it's super fast but it doesn't actually save any time in a run.
This better includes XD Skip from Super Mario Odyssey and a clip of SmallAnt1 performing it, haha
Extended xD skip
I thought the same exact thing
@@haegiz42 I think you mean true XD skip
@@reddragon3132 right
XD
What about Caveria and his twerk strats in banned%?
Yeah this one hasn't been used yet. 😂
@@cacs2201 oh I know, I just still find that whole debacle to be hilarious.
We will never forget the legendary "BUT WHAT ABOUT THE BOLT PENGUIN?!" 😂
Can someone explain this reference to me
@@TheFrozenthia a dude called CavieraGames, cheated a Speedrun of Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden Memories and got caught by the World Record Holder for the Any% Category, Caveira got his viewers to foul play raid his Stream and then after a short while filed a false copyright strike against him. After a while the strike was lifted, EZScape helped expose him and Caveira was banned from UA-cam, Twitter, Twitch and various other platforms.
There is your bed time story, no you will not get a kiss good night. 😂
Great video! Will be waiting for more of them!
I know it was in the intro and outro but super speedball is always amazing to watch like watching bryanato perform it perfect brings a tear to me eye
Where is the bell on the ship? ZFG demands the bell. (OoT 100%)
NO VIBRUTO zfgMad NO BELL zfgMad EZSCAPE zfgMad WHAT THE HELL?? zfgMad
Was also waiting for Vibruto
Makes this a regular series 100% its awesome
Very entertaining. Would definitely love to see more.
I'm not speedrunner myself, watch only GDQ, but man, do I love your videos. Keep up the great work!
I don't know why, but why just love your videos, no matter what game it is! I really hope speedrunning become more and more common, is such a great community!
Thank god your channel exists! Amazing work
Amazing compilation!
Excellent as usual. I find speed running to be the most fascinating aspect of gaming.
dude. you rock! Thank you so much for quality content!
I love your videos dude. Keep it up👍🏼
XD skip Super Mario Odyssey - Smallant1
XD guys! XD
I was suprised that wasn't on the list.
I watched it for that as well
Absolutely thought the same, need this one here
Been waiting on this one
Need more of this content in my beautiful life!
love the vids man
I really Love your Videos ♥️ keep it going !
Gotta love a good swag strat. It's always hype to see a runner do one during a contest
This was great. Part 2 please 🐸
Vid turned out awesome dude, thanks for the feature!
Man hit and run is one of the most underrated ps2 games. I put my childhood into that game and knew the important cheats off the top of my head.
Always found the Fzero GX glitch of going off and back on the stage to gain speed was super impressive.
Good video EZ.
Nice! This is a awesome topic!
love that idea for a series
Glad to see The Simpsons: Hit & Run glitch with the log at the Pier made it to this list! Always had a good laugh with this one as a kid since you'd go flying so fast and the locations you'd end up at were sooo unpredictable!
Didn't even show XD or True XD skip for SMO.
True XD skip is just dumb jumping around and doing nothing
This was one of the best vids in a while I would watch the fuck out of a series of them
I think this is a great idea for a series
Oh hell yeah, this is great. I love crazy tricks during runs.
third party box controller used for smash? In what world do you live in EZScape? They use GC controller or Pro controller but those kind of boxes are mostly use for more traditional fighting game
A player called Hax (the 20XX guy) made a smash box and uses it exclusively at a high level. Not many people use it but it's most certainly a thing and it's what was used in the video of siglemic.
Ah I am getting recommended good videos that got me through all of last year. Crazy
Yes!!! Another EZScape Video!
This should totally be a series! There are so many swag strats out there.
I say make this a series before someone else does!
"controllers normally used for fighting games like Smash"
excuse me, what
Yes, those box controllers are made specifically for Smash. Normal box controllers for fighting games would use arcade sticks which wouldn't make frame walking any easier. Since Smashbox and B0xx use analog to digital conversion spamming up inputs at specific angles becomes much easier
That makes so much sense now after you explained analog vs digital especially with the move inputs of smash! great video!
in Adventure of Link, one of the biggest threats for speed runs or deathless runs are these annoying bubbles that show up. They float up the screen randomly, in areas with pits. you hit one, you go flying. fall into the pit and you die. But by turning and timing a jump just right, you can get knocked back by a bubble onto a platform. This is dangerous, it would end a speed or deathless run in one moment, but it looks awesome.
You can do the same with the boss of the penultimate dungeon, but its rarely done because one wrong move and you have to start the whole game over.
one night i fell asleep with my phone turned on and of course the autoplay was on on the next day my recommendations were filled with speedrun videos and i was subbed to this channel
great video guys!
Great video!
EZScape, you're the shit! Keep up the good work 👌
360 swag strat during the Hog run at the end of Halo 1
1:53 the kill-zone of the lava is just a pixel wide surface. It moves up and down so if you time it correctly you can get your hurt-box under the hit-box of the lava while in invincibility frames from grabbing a ledge
You forgot the Warthog 360 at the end of The Maw in Halo CE. It ever so slightly maintains your momentum, and it can kill a run if you fly out of your warthog and die, but I'd definitely consider it a Swag Strat, just based on how sick it looks
How about a meme strat video, like saving the animals in super Metroid?
We HAVE TO mention BigBossman's Perfect Dark run at AGDQ 2014. On Defection Perfect Agent, near the end of the level, you have to land on essentially a 1-pixel-wide platform to glitch through the final wall to the elevator. This is done with a LOT of pause buffering, both in IL and RTA runs. Boss did it pause-less and it was simply remarkable. Legendary.
Sad it wasn't mentioned. :(
What about XD skip in SMO; Smallant1 does it every time
Love that GTA:V runner just giggling and "dood"ing. xD Glad it worked for him ^^
Best series yet. Everyone knows the more well used strats, backups, and routes...its almost becoming "cookie cutter" watching everyone do the SAME run...Very seldom do you see "risky" strats being exicuted, and thats fuckin dope. Keep it up yo
the oot backflip at the 231 scrubs (or any scrub, but i know that the any% wr holder (forgot his name) usualy goes for it)
His name is Torje
@@rainbob7 thnx
even tho i watch people pretty reguraly i still forget names
“XD skip” in Super Mario Odyssey (performed I believe exclusively, and routinely, by Smallant1) is a definite swag strat
I remember one WR of Super Metroid (Reverse Boss Order category) where the runner got so much time ahead of the previous WR that he took 7 seconds or so to save the animals and it was absolutely awesome.
You could definitely make this into a series
My boy Bryo starting off an EZ video!!!!!!
Frick yes I want a swag strats in speedrunning series
The TP slide is extensive in the TAS, really impressive and funny
I like the Reverse Door Crouch in Star Wars™: Jedi Knight™ - Jedi Academy™. For an example, it's done in CovertMuffin's SGDQ 2016 run, approx 2 mins 30 secs into the run
Amazing video that was made even better by having my boi Bryonato in the intro
A new video - Nice!
Feature the XD skip from Super Mario Odyssey in the next video. Shoutout to Smallant
I’ve never seen so many of my favorite childhood games in one video before
FUCK yes EZ I love speedrun stuff in general but swag strats are the icing on the cake
I think the best GTA 5 Speed Run Swag Strat is when you get out of your car mid air to launch yourself towards Michael's house.
You missed my favorite one. On smb3, world 3 fort there is a strat to enter a door, then enter it again om the right frame and it takes you directly to boom boom. It's not often done in runs because if you fail its a big loss. In oke agdq there was a race and both racers nailed it, it was awesome.
360 Swag Flip at the end of the Halo: Combat Evolved speedruns
Love that move, I always do it. Also the clip through the elevator in 2 Betrayals.
Oh, Titalfall 2 gamplay in the start, that reminds me: I should watch a speedrun of this game once, its such a great singleplayer campaign with such good movement, surely will be pterry fun to watch^^
Shout out to that 360 swag on Halo CE speedruns with the legend himself - Garish Goblin
I love watching titanfall speedruns. The movement alone.
I was hoping to see GTA VC ice cream truck strat at the end of the run, it's actually losses time but it'll look funny in the end cutscene. I think KZ_Frew pulled this on his GDQ run back in January
Love it!
if you make this into a series, definately include "xD skip" in mario odyssey.
In Jersey Devil for the PS1, there is only one level in the game that we can clip into early. It doesn't save any time over entering the level normally, and attempting it puts you at risk of entering a different level and losing around a minute getting back there.
I don't know anyone that doesn't always go for the swag entrance.
Featuring samu was cool. In supertux, there's a TAS only cycle skip you can do on one of the final levels, Nolok's Castle. It requires a frame perfect ICG that is used later in the level to kill an enemy you usually have to slow down and wait for. This let's you skip the cycle. It only saves 0.05s because you loose a few frames to grabbing the ice cube. I have a video of the IL Nolok's Castle in 53.98s on my channel somewhere, along with a video explaining the trick I think. Using this trick helped me get a sub 54 in that level, along with some other swagger frame boost strats. The second place time is about 0.3s slower, which for a 2D game, it's kind of a large gap.
And if you want a strat that doesnt save time, on Duct Ape (in the forest world) there's a specific spot where you can clip into the wall and mash the space bar to get to the level exit. However, it requires two springs, one of which is near the end anyway. It would take more time to set up the trick than to actually finish the level lol. I have a video theorising the trick and Silur had a video executing the trick. So far it's only possible with external tools because you need to mash very fast. peertube.social/videos/watch/596545ec-a36b-4c72-8ceb-8456802dc34b is the video of him doing the actual wall clip.
The boy bryanato making that into outro game STRONG
I'd love to see Swag Strats in TAS!
"Swag strat" to me is a few things, and of course some criteria are subjective. For one, a swag strat can be something that looks cool and takes a very high degree of skill and 1) could be risky while saving lots of time depending on the above criteria, but generally I feel a swag strat 2) saves little or no time and may be extremely risky or not at all.
I consider one of Trihex's hallmarks, the frenetic and hectic yet smooth auto-scroller segments in his yoshi's story speedruns to be showing off swag strats, and they often have no control over the speed of the run, yet look cool and showcase talent.
I feel for an optimal strategy to also be a swag strat, it has to save a negligible amount of time or none at all. What was once a swag strat could lose its status over time due to becoming the optimal route. For me what makes a speedrun strat swag lies in being borderline or arguably unnecessary and is used by runners to show off their talent or knowledge of a game.
I was hoping to see ZFG’s bell strat from Shadow Temple in OOT 100%.
Pls make a series out of this
Broooo that gta V stunt guy has the same laugh as Charlie 🤣
My absolute favorite swag strat is doing a 360 in the warthog off the big jump during the maw in Halo 1
1:27
RULES OF NATURE
Since it wasn't explained in the video: The Titanfall 2 segment in the beginning is a swag strat because most of that level is actually an autoscroller as you need to wait for a specific platform to arrive. Speedrunners spent a lot of time optimizing paths in that section because they didn't realize it was an autoscroller until later on, but GDQ runs tend to feature the strats anyway because they're really cool. You can lose half a minute for no reason at all every time you try the funkier stuff in that level!
I'm glad you specified it was possible to do JRB cannonless with another controller. Kinda odd that the commentator for Siglemic's cannonless said it was impossible without his box. I've seen Cheese do it with his Hori controller.
Twilight Princess also has death sword skip, which is pretty cool
5:22
"Normally used for fighting games like Smash"
i don't know about that one, man
Endersteve Smash is a party game.
@@blakereppert3425 That's a pretty nice joke
smashbox uses digital input buttons for the sticks, normal fighting game boxes use an arcade stick
Was about to ask about XD skip and was not expecting to see literally everyone already mentioned it
donkey kong country 2 has a strat called swag balloon in 4-2
saves no time, and can only potentially lose time
Worldline skate in Destiny 2 completely revolutionized speedruning in D2. A team of 6 warlocks could easily cut a wr down by a minute or so as apposed to a diverse fireteam without worldline skate.
