I worked for carnivals for a couple years, so I know, there are usually more than one operator for a said ride. When one operator takes a break, another operator will take his place. This man was obviously on break.
One perk to being a "carnie"... carnies get to ride the rides free of charge when they are on brake. Or... at least they did when I was a carnie... but that was years ago, so...

These rides are absolutely awesome. Ive gotten "in trouble" on a couple for doing this, but finding the chill operators that let you stand and move around makes my whole day worth it.
I thought standing up and moving was what you were meant to do? The operator at the one I went on was yelling out for us to try and stand up 😂

I honestly thought he was at a bowling alley doing some kind of levitating truck.
Then it slapped me in the bowling ballss when I noticed the other people had no bowling balls.
That was actually the coolest ride. I got in once not knowing what would happen. Got so close to black out and then came to right at its top speed and sat there trying to crawl around. Was a blast lol!
It is the coolest ride isn't it. Other than the screamer. The screamer if you don't know what it is, is a big pickaxe shapped ride that spins you around and around and hold you upside down of one point just to plumet and keep spinning

When I was a kid, the operators would walk around the walls, in between the riders. Such a cool job.
My sister got her elbow stuck in between the seats when they went back and closer together before the ride started😂 she was crying the whole time we were spinning.

I’ll always remember the first time I went on one of these I was just tall enough to go and my mom only let me go because my older brother also went and seeing all the older kids do all of the crazy tricks was so terrifyingly cool. That ride was the pinnacle of insane carnival rides and I’m sad they stopped setting it up at the local carnivals

I remember the one I rode on the operator didn’t spin with the rest of it, but either way being in the center you don’t feel the gravity pulling, hence why he was moving his chair all around n shit and not having an issue. I would def think you’d get dizzy tho but I guess not for him. Damn that’s just so weird cuz I know everyone I rode on the operator in the center didn’t spin.
It's funny actually because if you think about the operator is at the centre of the ride, meaning they are spinning at a much slower rate than the people on the outside of the ride. Yeah they are spinning but I'd imagine it would be almost negligible compared to the what a user would experience on the ride

I've ran that before. Well a starship 2000 little bigger but same thing. It can affect the operator but not as much as you'd think. If the ride was clear it would probably affect the operator more.

@@connorcarroll7677 It depends It’s more of a force sensation it’s difficult to move when it’s up to speed, think of it like earth it spins 20,000 sumn mph but we don’t get dizzy cause we’re also spinning with it as one cause of “gravity” , now if you were floating in it suspended you’d definitely get dizzy.
I remember riding this with my friend then getting out and saying "give me a sec" and immediately rolling on the floor with cold sweats. Awesome times

In high school my friends pointed out that the operator was a fan of a certain band and liked a certain brand of soda as a cult following of the band. So when we went into town for snacks and I saw the same soda being sold there after never seeing it in my life, so I got one for the guy to be clever. I gave it to him and explained my lack of knowledge but noticed it was relevant so I got it. And he played all of dream on and a bit of more of a song during the ride so we all got at least a double ride cuz of it. He was so stoked! And really having fun hyping up the ride. So worth it!
If the world ran a little more like this, it'd surely be a better place overall.

One year at our fair, the operator of this thing had his guitar and huge amp in the center control box. When the ride started, he proceeded to walk around the graviton on the walls completely shredding on guitar and stepping over each one of us. It was pretty sick.

Story Time: I dated this girl when I was 14, and one of the first dates we went on was to the county fair. I was probably 15 by this time and she was 17-18. I was this young guy in the middle of puberty and nervous as hell. She was older than I was and drop dead gorgeous, and so were all of her older friends with us and their older boyfriends, (Wife was pretty popular in high school, me not so much.) Well they all wanted to ride this thing, and I’m thinking in the back of my head, “No this is a terrible idea.” But I sucked it up and wanted to fit in, so up the ramp we went and got on. That thing started spinning and I knew I had fucked up. It was all I could do to not puke inside the ride itself. Once the ride stopped I came stumbling down the ramp and sat down beside the fence, trying with all my strength to NOT puke everywhere. Everyone was poking fun at me because I got sick and everyone else was fine. It felt terrible. Everyone laughed but her. She got me some sprite and some bread and sat with me until my head stopped spinning and I was fine. We continued our night without further incident. Now I’m 28 years old, and I’m married to that girl. We have a nice home, and 2 beautiful children together. But yeah, fuck that ride lol.

gravitron 3000 or 9000 and it’s mainly purple I think, it plays cool music. As a grown adult i still slide by the carnival for food and find myself riding this everytime

Worked a carnival for a couple weeks as a summer job in Ohio once. Walking the walls of the Gravitron while stoned was an amazing experience I will never forget.
As kids we would walk all around in them it was a blast. The operators didn't care at all. The rides made for it......and broken bones

They still use the same machine, but there's a huge duct tapped patch over one of those triangles in the ceiling.

I remember the first and only time I rode this years ago and lost my very first wallet. I asked the conductor if I could search for it and when we both lifted the the padding, I saw a shit load of money that must have fallen out of people's pant pockets from the gravitational pull. I did find my wallet and I remembered I had some loose cash but I couldn't remember exactly how much I had. The conductor let me retrieve just a five dollar bill that was next to my wallet and told me not to touch the rest.

Man is able to stand up in this machine because it spins him so fast that the force of him going outwardly into the wall is greater than gravity pulling him down, so with a bit of core strength you can stand on the wall. If this happened in space you could keep someone on the "ground" of a big ring by spinning it fast enough to push everything towards the outer wall.

man i watched this chick get straight up exorcist style projectile puked on in there about 15 years ago when i was a teenager! Not quite as much puke as hers in the movie but it definately had the velocity of the one off Scary movie lmao. it made 2 other people puke seeing it 😂. I've never seen an operator let anybody do this where I'm from. They always say you have to stand back against the wall. I get why, because if you lose your balance, you'll get hurt, but still.
