- A joint operation between Ontario’s provincial police force and the Canadian Border Services Agency has recovered 598 stolen vehicles.
Of the 598 stolen vehicles, 32 were from Halton, Hamilton or Niagara Region.
Authorities say that the vehicles identified as stolen from Ontario have a potential value of $34.5 million.
The operation was known as Project Vector and employed officers to search sea containers suspected of containing stolen vehicles.
Since the project began in December, 390 shipping containers have been inspected. 598 stolen vehicles were found in that time with 483 of them originated from Ontario.
It isn’t just theft that the vehicles have been involved in. Police say that many of the vehicles recovered were connected to other criminal incidents, such as carjackings and home invasions - and their origins will continue to be investigated.
At this time, no arrests have been made.
Images shared by police show a wide-range of vehicles, among some of them are brand new Mercedes-Benz G-Class wagons, Dodge RAM pickup trucks and Toyota Tundra’s.
“These vehicles were destined to be exported overseas, to markets in Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and South America,” said Deputy OPP Commissioner Marty Kearns.
This announcement comes just weeks after the Peel Regional Police force hosted its second annual Auto Theft Summit.
You mean they finally decided to look in those shipping containers? Everyone else in Canada knew where the stolen cars were. It's about time.
Amen, Richard.
EXACTLY !!!!
Police whether local or OPP are not doing their job. One hardly sees them on the highways. The Trucks drivers are creating havoc occupying two lanes, leaving only one the right lane, slowing traffic & jams.
Lol true 😂
Maybe they were involved. Organized Crimes sometimes involved Corrupt Cops
1 vehicle stolen every 5 minutes is about 31000 vehicles stolen between December 12 and March 29. They recovered 598, so almost 2%.
Very impressive.
How can you open almost 400 shipping containers, recover all those stolen cars and NOT arrest anyone? Anyone in management who was responsible for the container's management and shipping is automatically guilty.
probably collecting evidence.
107 days and only 390 containers opened ! 2500 trucks 10 trains a day so less then 1% is looked at
how many cars stolen in the same 107 days? lol
organized crime know show to hide real names.
It's Canada, even if they did arrest someone, they would let them go after interviewing them and they would be right back out there stealing another car. Recently there was a news story on a guy in Vancouver that had been arrested 65 times in the previous week for theft related charges.
Buddy you might as well just say "I know nothing about how ports work" . People like yourself are dangerous delegating blame and professing guilt on people.
Can't catch a car thief but they can sure catch you if you forget to put a dime in the meter.
They don’t deal with the real problems
😂😂😂 to true 👍
😂
So true. Even if you pay the meter you still get a ticket. A lot of money in the parking ticket scams.
Someone at the Port is on the payroll .
Someone? There are a lot of someones. Montreal has always been the major center for organized crime. Pot is legal so the supply chain turned from import to export.
Someone? The port is mobbed up, Mafia territory. Always has been.
@@satori3000lol you’re blaming weed? 99% of the weed consumed in Canada was Canadian grown before it was legalized. Nice try tho lol
Lmao!!!
SOMEBODY IS, we don't know who, but SOOOMMEEEBODY
Why did it take so long for them to do their job?
Because they are incompetent just like our government!
Nepotism Corruption and Politics got in the way 😑
They like seeing rich people hitchhike. Only answer that makes sense.
Too busy wasting time on people protesting this shitshow of a government
The lines at Tim's were really long and they needed their coffee and donuts before they could do their job 😂
Everyone and their dogs knew where the stolen vehicles went for over atleast 5 years
About time they did there dam jobs , they’ve known about this for a long time , this is not new.
No arrests in 600 vehicles stolen. Even if there is arrests, these thieves are out the next day. Great job by law enforcement.😢😭
About time to inspect these containers! Who is paying for them and check who is receiving them! This is long overdue!
They should check every container before it gets put on a ship, costly yes , but not as costly as hiring extra police in every city to tackle auto theft.
Exactly!!!
You already know
And judge will release them. Disgusting
In 48 hours or sooner.
Thanks Trudeau!!
With 2x credit for time served and an apology.
Release whom? Nobody got arrested.
who are they releasing? ,,, ZERO ARRESTS! WERE YOU NOT EVEN LISTENING?
😂 So there's connection to the port.
This is ridiculous.
I know exactly where they are all going to and contacted the police and insurance companies but they did not care.
The port of Vlore, Albania.
All the boats full of Canadian and American vehicles with their license plates still on enter Europe at the port of vlore in Albania. If you go to that town there are Canadian and American license plates on half the vehicles before new VIN numbers are found and stamped . Then they enter Europe.
I know this as I worked over there. We contacted all the major insurance companies and they said they don’t want to investigate as they will just make up the money lost by raising premiums.
The police did not care at all.
Looks like you've done better and more thorough research than the RCMP.
Is he lying¿ @@schrempskynate8944
Port of Vlorë has no means to unload a container ship. Exactly how do you expect them to get the cars off the ship? Their entire yearly cargo capacity is less than some container ships carry in one load.
@@NotExpatJoe that’s not true at all. Lol. Wait….did Google not tell you how thousands of stollen cars enter Europe?
Hmm…That’s weird. I guess we should get the local mafia to update that then hey?
@@nickmanning3913 I can see the port capabilities on their website and use Google Earth to view the port facilities. They cannot unload container ships in that port. Google also tells me that a huge majority of stolen vehicles are going to the Middle East, not Europe.
Why is the POlice & media acting like this was so difficult when it was evident from before?
Our criminal system is the biggest joke on the planet. And no you didn’t hurt these criminals by taking away 34 million dollars because they have gotten away with stealing BILLIONS in stolen cars. Our insurance is insane because you guys suck at your job
No arrest. What's new? 😐
Are police, court & judges all involved in this? What have they been doing for so many years now? The ignorance & arrogance of them is unbelievable. To say, car owners leave their car keys at the front door, so the car thieves do not break the front door. They stopped to say, leave the front door key as well & Condom as well, just in case, they decide to rape female (May God forbid), inside. People should ask why the police are highest paid government employees & get the highest portion of the budget, why when they do not do their job?
Police are definitely overpaid 🤦
Very well put. Time we get value for your Police dollars not just BS. Cops are long overdue in being accountable. My Municipal tax is $4000 per year 25% $1000 goes to Regional Policing??Yes.
600 stolen vehicles!!!!!
From Ontario?????
I bet. Friend of mine almost had his vehicle stolen, but when the thieves noticed the mileage on his car was high, they abandoned it.
Someone put a seal ont those containers??? He or she sign that exportation billing that make him a witness and responsible of the payload
Wow, a billion dollars of insurance payout ( Onterio alone ) and the joint polices forces manage to retrieve 34.5 million worth of stolen cars in Quebec port. Seem to me auto theft is still a profitable operation in Canada.
They actually did something! Unbelievable.
It’s about time! Everyone knew where the stolen vehicles were going and it is ridiculous that cargo was not scrutinized before like every other border check point!
who in the government is the head of this theft ring ? as a normal person ,you can't bring a bottle of water or a bag without being controlled ,but hundreds and thousandth of cars, can't enter a port and exit the country unless they are covered by a ton of papers ,and a regular. clerk at the port administration , can't get all the forms, stamps, and signatures required
Which MPs are African?
@@animateddepressionget them all out of Canada
I guess a bottle of water or a bag of chips is more dangerous than the shipping containers being sent out of the country.
Noticed they wouldn’t say what country they were going to? Where do you think they were going?
You're the MP, so you must know if they are Africans@@animateddepression
You clearly don't know how the ports work.
They must put them in jail. Thank you.
In Canada, you only go to jail for protesting the liberal government! All other crimes are OK!
Who? The criminals or the police not doing their jobs?
Got 600.
6,000 went through
Everibadee heppy
It's like the drug cartels who used to plant drugs in easy places for the police to catch and pretend that they were doing their jobs. Keep up those appearances, RCMP!
How are there no arrests? At the docks everything needs to be booked, ranging from origins from where it originated from, trucking companies hauling containers. That would give even more paperwork for a trail to pinpoint locations. Something is fishy at that dock for sure!
Wow amazing when the police do their jobs😂😂😂😂
Canada should get a container xray system like the US uses. You can scan a container in a minute and know whether or not you need to inspect it. Problem is that Customs officers only have to do roughly 5-6 shipment inspections per day as per their union contract, so a LOT of goods get smuggled in and out of Canada because of that. I worked in the customs industry for years and know how inefficient Customs is here. More interested in DEI than protecting the country.
OH, YOU DID IT!! YOU USED THE NEWEST MORONIC RIGHT WING TALKING POINT! YOU DID IT! Congratulations! DEI is the new woke, the new CRT, the new ANTIFA, the new SJW. George Soros is funding them all, isn't he?
The CBSA union contract doesn't say anything about the number of shipment inspections they have to do per day. Canada does have multiple large scale container x-ray systems at every port of entry. The problem is volume. Because Canada does not charge for container inspection, it would cost Canadians too much to inspect every container. One thing Canadians hate is paying taxes, so a lot of illegal shipments are missed.
@@NotExpatJoe As I said, I worked in Customs for years, and I have been on customs inspections myself many times. All the customs officers I know would disagree with you on the number of exams they do per day. And the customs terminal I worked at was the largest in Toronto, and I have worked in all the truck, air and rail terminals in Toronto and the situation was exactly the same. You are correct about volume, but the lack of proper inspection equipment and current exam processes are the problem. I also worked as a Canadian and US customs manager in the oil industry and the US system is significantly more efficient than Canada's.
@@RacerX888 All I am saying is there is nothing in their union collective agreement that states or limits the number of containers they will or can inspect per day.
Shouldn’t the perpetrators be deported after time served?
And yet zero arrests. Weird. I guess the mafia didn’t pay their cut to the port authority
Funny how you see results from the police when these sort of stories become so common that it appears on the news...
598 vehicles ? So what! With a vehicle stolen every 5 minutes, there are 576 stolen every 2 days! Jeez, are they proud of the dismal failure?
390 of the 2500 went out LOL How about you hold and prosecute the immigrants you catch and let go..
That's waciiiist. Wah.
@X-Prime123 no just facts that's all.
@@X-Prime123 I live on the Ontario Quebec Border... I Hear it on the scanner every day.
Hope they can scan every container
Amazing what you can do when you make it a priority. This 'problem' has been known for years, but only now has there been any concerted effort to do something about it....
Better late than never? NOT! After tens of thousands of vehicles have left the country!! Maybe hundreds of thousands if you go back a few years!!
I wonder how much of the total containers search cars were found. It's not working. No arrest! Where's the paper trail
What is shocking is not the story but rather that officials actually did their job!
The port has to be complicit at this scale..
I think the police and border service were EMBARRASSED into checking shipments out of Montreal. What was happening and where the vehicles were exiting Canada was all over the news BEFORE the raid.
DNA analysis vs shipping paperwork?
These cops are smart.
Hamilton, Niagara, and Halton are different from Ontario?
Wow. It only took severe public scrutiny to actually do something about this? Probably too busy pouring resources into investigating cars leaving skidmarks on pride crosswalks
We as normal people knew the story in Montreal ports and stolen vehicle smuglling for years! Finally police found it as well!
We should be hearing about those kinds of police operations every week.
Big police presence on the docks from now on.
Everyone knows the cars are being shipped out of country. Why was it so hard to do this before? . Why police waited so long?. Why there is no arrest?
Who is benefiting from these crimes? Why are there no arrests. Car theft and drugs flown in, yet no arrests? Too convenient I’d say. Who is being protected?
How long until insurance companies start removing theft from auto insurance coverage?
Ho much cheaper would auto insurance be if they weren't stolen in the first place
Two of the most frightening words I've heard in a while, Police Say.
Finally!! It's about time they did something about it.!
Who in the government is the mafioso? It's pretty obvious there is more going on. How are there no arrests? Did the cars drive themselves?
I believe the show Marketplace did a story on this over a year ago. Are they just now working on the problem?
This only tells one thing: police were doing little to nothing until this has become a huge issue for the victims and the insurance industry!
"Just leave your keys at the door or in the ignition. Actually just deliver them to the port, it will save us time." Toronto police
I came here to see people complain about a successful bust as if it was a disaster. I was not disappointed. 😂😂😂
Because it was not successful, no one was arrested and even if they were they would be released to steal more.😂😂😂
This was all done by the OPP. The RCMP never caught any, not one.
The rcmp? I thought that was just a horse parade in the summer time?
@@aubytrice1868 They also use the horses in winter to trample peaceful protesters.
@fredfosdick4093 Recreational stomping of innocents.
OPP have no jurisdiction in the port of Montreal so RCMP had to have been involved.
@@fredfosdick4093 after the absolute show of incompetence in nova scotia 2 years ago it is clear that these cats are completely useless. The usa has the FBI and CIA, canada has horseback riders with gay little moustaches how can you take these guys serious?
So that recovers the past few weeks of stolen vehicles. What about the thousands of vehicles that went missing prior to, and currently leaving at the moment.
0:56 since when are Hamilton, Niagara and Halton not part of Ontario? Pretty sure they meant Ottawa.
RETURN them back to their LEGIT Owners and lower everyone's auto insurance this year. The rates have spiked in 2024 at least ~25% increase upon renewal for ppl with clean / no-accident record!!
The Legit owner is the insurance company who paid out the claim to the original owner. (who has likely already replaced the car with something else) The insurance company will run them through an auto auction to recoup some of the costs.
My auto insurance for two cars and one motorcycle with full coverage as gone up only 14% since 2013. That is a far cry from ~25% increase in one year.
Isn't it curious how their are suddenly resources in place to deal with this scourge only after the heat gets too unbearable for Justin Trudeau in the House, committee, as well as the senate? 🤔
Auto theft or Insurance fraud? 🤔
So nice to see our great policemen doing the fine work they do
when not being hampered goverments crazy regulations. Thankyou🇨🇦👍
This goes all the way to the top!
Just leave the fobs at the door.
And remember you're not allowed to hurt the criminal.
We, the Canadians, should have the full right to defend our properties with all means.
DIVERSITY IS OUR STRENGTH!
Look at that. The authorities swing into action when the politicians get the heat. How quaint
I show on other news they claimed that 12000 vehicles stolen in a year from GTA. They recovered only 600 which is 5% of total vehicles stolen. Wow. Great achievement... 😅
blind man points out stash of stolen cars to RCMP officers who react immediately and arrest David Menzies
Great coverage CHCH
If they were able to take this much why it take the police so long to get there
It’s about time!
If police are given the authority i believe 100% that they will be able to stop this crime
They still haven’t arrested anyone?
The CBC did this story YEARS ago and only now something is done about it?!
So only now that people have caught on to what is happening can the police act accordingly. Gee, i wonder who's getting kick backs from all of this crime that they are fully aware of but, just" can't seem to get a handle on"?🤔
Great moments in policing, no really these actions will only last a moment. After the dust settles it will be back to doing nothing for their money. Please leave your keys outside the cargo container.
You mean to say, police recovered 600 vehicles but no arrests. Is this for real. This is like a movies. This is a real joke. You mean to say, thieves just drop these stolen vehicles at the port and say, hey send these anywhere. This is a joke for real. This is sad that nothing is happening to these thieves. I m very upset.
They’re not squeezing anyone but the law abiding public
A good friend had his new Lexus SUV, stolen right out of his driveway. He had a tracker in it, his motion detection cameras caught everything on cam. He called 911 within 15 minutes. He told him exactly where his SUV was. Toronto police told him sorry, they don’t have the resources.
About time they do their job. My insurance went up $260 this year, so now I get a rebate, RIGHT?
CRAZY
WHEN PRESSURE IS APLLIED , THE CARS ARE FOUND
LAW ENFORCEMENT NOT DOING THEIR JOBS HAS LEAD TO THIS. WHO WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE?
NO ONE AS USUAL
Keep up the good work!!
Another effective way is to put a permanent police outpost & checkpoint in ALL PORTS IN CANADA.
annoys me how theyre on tv boasting like theyve done a good job.
Right
What took them so long? We are barely able to pay our Auto Insurance Premiums because of all these stolen vehicles.
Gee, stolen cars at a port in Quebec. Ooooh. What amazing police work. Uh, what took so
Long ??????
Oh so the police are actually doing something. I'm shocked!
How much has your insurance gone up in the last 2 years? How much of that do you think of that is related to car theft and the poor driving of new Canadians? Now multiply that by 27 million Canadians that drive. It's an enormous figure.
Consider what might be hidden in the overlooked containers. Redirecting so much manpower to combat vehicle theft diverts attention from more sinister activities such as firearms smuggling, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and whatever else might be slipping through our borders undetected.
I would agree that auto theft redirects manpower from human trafficking probably on purpose since governments are the leading cause. but don't agree about firearms and drugs, Personal protection devices and what someone puts in their bodies should never be regulated in a free society.
Halton cops are now going to do a forensic audit now that the cops found the ads but why didn’t Halton cops find the cars when they were 1st stolen?
criminal charged all the party involved in that shipment including thief, organized thief, business neglection, failure to follow shipment guidance, etc
Wow after Years of ignoring the problem they finally do something and expect the public to be impressed🤮
Wow if only more reporting on crime would get done, we'd have no more crime!
It took the insurance industry to actually do something!
WOW THEY ACTUALLY DID SOMETHING???
600 out of the 100 k+ stolen cars on Canada last year. A 0.006% recovery rate. Outstanding work., at what cost. That all deserve a raise. Lol
A guy who tracked his car to a railway yard and pointed to the train as it left with his stolen car, and all you were interested in was making him pay a fine for being in the train yard.😂
So no arrests. I'm sure those thieves are really feeling the pressure now bois. Lmfao.
No Arrests.
No arrests from these seizures? Clearly, there's a seriously flawed process being taken advantage of at the Port of Montreal. Who is approving these containers for export? Who is examining them? This smells like an inside job.
Funny, reading your comment, I just posted something very similar myself to the story. There’s definitely people on the inside, and all they have to do is follow the paperwork. Hefty, jail sentences need to be implemented, not fines, or any other slaps on the wrist.
