Hilariously, this race is the first time Russell has ever out-scored his teammate. Every other time points have been a possibility he's gotten unlucky. Glad to see his talent finally be rewarded, even if it did mean us not getting a proper race.

Yeah and that's because it wasn't that wet, if it was and they had to use full wet tyres, then you would just be able to see a fraction of the track

They already posted one of Max v George, basically Max took pole because of traction out of the last corner, was able to get the power down way earlier.

That was a delicate dance between understeer and over steer, carrying alot of speed into the corner and let the car understeer to the edge of the track. I think he pushed the car beyond what it is capable of and did it brilliantly
Beyond limit is not possible. But yes he found the limit in this lap

@@ucube33 What he means is that George went deliberately beyond the limit of grip at some points during the lap which allowed him to be faster than he would have been within the limits of grip on the tires at all times. He positioned the car in a way that allowed the loss of grip to naturally take him to where he wanted to be at various different points during the lap, most commonly on corner exit. Being beyond the limit is very much possible. He is referring to the limits of grip, not the absolute maximum pace that could potentially be extracted from the car.

This lap left me lost for words... the finest lap of George Russell's career. I'm not sure what he can do to better this one tbh.
He pretty much nailed the last sector too.
Around the same pace stat as lance Stroll. GG Codemasters, that reflects reality. Russell’s one lap pace is insane

Hearing the replies to him on the radio, especially the boss (was he crying?), made it even better. But as Max and his engineer would say, simply lovely!
Hearing the team in the background cheering as he gets the news makes it so emotional it gets *me* emotional. I hope Netflix or someone had a camera on his team as it exploded in cheers when he got provisional pole.
Russell will be world champion one day.

This quali was the first time me and my friends got to SEE F1 irl and THE absolute thrill in Spa When George put himself On p2 was amazing (we don’t have enough money for race ticketsbut in Heinsight that wasnt So bad)

awesome to see how much grid there is when braking outside the dry racing line. In the last sector though, he basically took Blanchimont flat out! amazing how these cars are planted, even in wet conditions!
George is probably questioning whether he even needs Mercedes to do well after this 😂

This will go down as one of the greatest laps in F1 history. This was the day Russell REALLY proved that hes one if the greater drivers on the grid and has the potential to be the next big thing and absolutely dominate when lewis retires.

Funny how he is 7km-10km slower than Hamilton in every straight but still gets ahead
I saw a comparison of each of their laps with telemetry and that William's top speed is non-existent
Yet in a top speed focused track he beat a 7 time world champion
difference in set up. the Williams was running with a high down force setup due to the rain, gambling on the fact that it will rain on raceday too. the others ran lower down force, as is the norm in spa, so they can survive if there its dry as well.

Nobody can deny Nikita Mazepin's greatness now. He has easily overtaken Hamilton in Baku and now securing the fastest lap in the slowest car on the grid in Spa.

The joke was meant to explain his level of talent suffering in probably the 2nd slowest team on the grid but remaining positive and upbeat the past few years to now be rewarded by 'the gods' with an outstanding lap in a not so outstanding car. Honestly I think this is up there with “Senna 88’ Monaco”, Hill 97’ Jerez with his Arrows & that ridiculous pole lap Lewis has in Singapore, (forget the year). To do that in at best the 7th-8th fastest car is beyond amazing.

Say whatever you want, he deserved every point of that podium. This kid is going places.
This guy is pushing that car way beyond what the team expects and he clearly means business out there on track. This, for me, is one of the great laps in F1 history and, although I disagree (after much thought) that a classification should have been made, he fully deserves his second place trophy if for no other reason than recognition of this lap.
Russell is a Champion in waiting.

If George didn't overcook it a bit there, he could have had pole by a solid margin. Williams was well sorted here. In those conditions, I reckon that car had a race winning set up.
Williams coming back to winning ways and it's not even the new regulations yet. The side has earned themselves a pat on the back, they're killing Alfa rn.
