CARLOS- As a young teen looking to get started in weightlifting/bodybuilding I remember seeing the Weider version for sale in the sports section of a department store back in around 1981 or 1982!!! I bought an EZ-Curl bar with my Christmas money and still use it today!!
Awesome. I teach the chest expander in my online coaching if interested
Another fascinating history lesson from Golden era bookworm..I had a chest expander when I was a young teenager (This was in the eighties), always pinched the one chest hair a had 😂. Seriously though, for recovery from injury they are worth a investment. Great video.💪👏
They pinch my chest hair nowadays too!
When I was a kid I remember Jack Lalane on TV doing Chest expanders, push ups, situps. I don't know how much barbell work Jack done but his physic proved that steroids were not needed to get jacked. Great old school video once again, Thanks !
No steroid are needed. Just the will power
The connection between bows and chest expanders is V cool
I’ve owned a few chest expanders and bull workers. Now I own 2 cheese expanders that I use frequently. One is somewhat easy, using rubber tubing strands and the other is a 5 spring that goes up to very high resistance with all 5 in there. My activities are mostly bouldering and running, and I don’t like commercial gyms anymore. So for upper body, chest expanders are a great tool to combine with all the calisthenics. I also do 500-800 burpees in an average week.
I have official British Strandpulling Association Expander I ordered to US from I believe mans name was Jim Bartlett. Its very heavy duty, but very awkward to change springs. I been using it on and off for almost 25 years
awesome. please send a photo to goldenerabookworm@gmail.com
Love my collection of Spenby and Terry expanders. They're great for upper back, shoulders and traps development. I plan on getting a Baraban one soon, it looks like a beast!
Great video 💪
Let Robert know that it's because of this video!
@@GoldenEraBookwormI will do!
Excellent video. Good information on the chest expander origins keep up the good work.nice one.
Glad you enjoyed it
I have used one for years. It's a good piece of kit.
Thank you for _expanding_ my knowledge. I feel a brain pump after each video.
LOL, nice one
New video, hell yea 💪🏽
More to come!
Enjoy watching your videos. You are doing a great.job.
Thank you so much!
Great video.
Thanks!
I'm up to 7 springs on my Baraban expander now! Will have to buy the Rollon next...
Where do you find them? Which brand is better?
shop.handgripper.net
@@GoldenEraBookworm thanks!
Carlos you're the man!!!
Thank you
Awesome research
Thank you!
Sir enjoyed your video lecture on Strand Pulling and Chest expanders. And I fully agree with your recommendation of Robert Baraban equipment. God bless! And I eagerly await your next video lecture.
Extremely cool 😮
Thank you
And yet archers in movies are often depicted as scrawny and lanky...
Well, it depends on their diet too. If they wont eat well, they wont grow
great video. Cant wait for my Rollon to get here. love the standard Baraban expander, really added size to my upper back, traps, delts...
Good choice!
Let Robert know that it is because of my videos
@@GoldenEraBookworm I did!
@@joew2280 thanks mate
wow an excellent video. im using a rubber chest expander
Well done, but I highly recommend steel spring expanders. I teach the chest expander in my online coaching if interested
Now to see the history of the Iron Boot
Haha, I might just do that. The earliest one I know of was advertised in the early 1900s in a french magazine...I know because I own it. I also own one of the first models from the UK
@@GoldenEraBookworm Wow! Impressive!
I was made aware of the Iron Boot a while back. It's a handy little device that, in my opinion, can compete with the modern leg curl/extension machines
Super
Thanks
Great video. What is your opinion of the 1960s British ones by Spenby, Terry’s and Mitre? They seem to be well regarded. Do you think they hold up well to the Baraban one?
no, simply because they are too old, and they were never made as strong as Baraban's are. There max resistance was around 50 k, Baraban's regular expander goes up to a minimum of 70k
Hey Carlos, do you have any great book recommendations to help take someone from a beginner to developing a classic physique?
What is Available today that resembles the Sandow developer most today? Also that sandow leg machine needs a video of its own😂😂
Who was the lifter at the end with the enormous spring expander device?
👍
I merely have to glimpse the thumbnail, and I know it’s GBW.
Lol
That thumbnail was crazy 😧..
Yep, it's Arthur Robin. These old schooners were serious business
I remember seeing him do his Strongman Act.He was featured on a show called International Showtime hosted by Don Ameche. The show ran from 61 to 65 and featured acts from European Circuses.I was always searching for the name of that that Strongman.I was 13 when I saw him on TV.Thanks Carlos for Clearing up the mystery.
Did you ever get your hands on Fred Rollon’s course?
I did a video on it!
Can strandpulling replace pull ups?
Gen X’r here. I remember some of those old expanders lying around the basement of my grandparents and in gyms. As a kid i just remember what it felt like fucking about with them and pinching the shit out of my skin. Those things were brutal in the hands of an untrained kid.
you know where i can buy one? also great video
Here, here! Second that! Been looking for one but not sure of chest expander brand quality.
P.S. - Okay, shopping info at end of vid.👍

Are rubber chest expanders still enough?Because i am 17 I cannot get a Spring chest expander(Robert Baraban chest expander is too expensive).
Is there any posibility to make your own metal chest expander with little money assuming you have handles(my dad has a cheap spring chest expander, the handles are really good but springs are really low quality because after certain uses the springs lenghten and don't return to their initial position )?
There must be some places or sites where you can find high quality springs since its no big philosophy.
I want to use then mostly for back(i have adjustable dumbbells at home but exercises like pullover or rows feel very akward to me,and i don't want to strain my back considering i have mild scoliosis).
Work and spend your money, it is worth. It sounds harsh but this is a more than a lifetime product.
