Ford 3.0L Water Pump Replacement - Aerostar, B3000, Ranger 3.0 Overheating

- Fast paced video showing you the essential information on how to replace a water pump on this 1997 Ford Aerostar 3.0L v6 engine. This may work for Ranger and Mazda B3000 also? 1986-2008? This engine was overheating while stopped but would run normal temps at highway speed. I determined the coolant was not flowing properly which led me to believe that the pump had no vanes on the impeller.

I remember back in 2019 I had a 2000 crusty and rusty a$$ white ranger with a bowling ball size hole going through the floor and rockers on their last leg and had to replace the water pump. I didn’t have as much money at the time to afford Milwaukee impact and had to rely on hand tools. I ripped the whole damn radiator out, still was a pain to replace with everything rusted on or bolts that wouldn’t budge. It took me like 8 hours to replace that water pump and being 12 coors banquet beers deep in the hot sun with a real rare but bad attitude didn’t help either. Eventually I got it done with sheer determination and 2 cans of pb blaster but it was a pain working with rusty crap. I eventually got rid of the truck when the second transmission blew up. Donated it to the fire department and they destroyed it for training purposes. They chopped the roof, crushed the fenders and took the jaws of life and pushed the dashboard and firewall forward exposing even more hidden rot. I don’t miss that pile, but the motor known for blowing head gaskets didn’t blow a head gasket. Basically that sacked out 3.0 outlasted the rest of the truck. She’s long gone and ancient history!
Perfect kind of video for me. No non sense. ;-)
Haha yeah. I usually just jump right to the point when I'm doing how to videos. Pretty boring stuff, but hopefully it will end up ranking well in the UA-cam search and help some people out.
Nice job, easy to watch and to the point.
Thanks
Thanks for this video. Really hard to find any videos for the 3.0 aerostar.
No problem! Happy to hear it was helpful
Got a tricky coolant leak to find now. Above the alternator is where it seems to be coming from. ???
Just what I need! Quick and Easy! Cheers!
Happy to hear it was helpful! Cheers
Too sweet I'm cheap i use air hammer and long wrenches to knock fans lose. Great session thanks
That's a great technique too! Especially a pickle fork attachment works well. Thanks man
Very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to post this.
phenomenal video, thank you!
Thanks. And no prob!
Very good video tks
Welcome 👍
So how do you lock the fan clutch in place
I have a 2004 ranger 3L and I can't get the fan out. I have the fan special tool but I have only 5mm gap behind the pulley. Ideas? The nut in front of the water pulley is 7/8in aka 22mm NOT 36mm. [ I removed the 4 bolts on the pulley but I can't pull the clutch/fan off ]
Did you ever figure out how to get that off I'm going through same
Is this the exact same procedure for a 2004 ranger, 5 speed manual, 3.0 liter? Water pump may be bad on mine
Is this the same procedure for a 96 ranger 3.0 litre automatic no Ac
Спасибо большое за познавательное видео! Thank you very much for the informative video!
No problem! I appreciate you translating it. I think that's the first time I've had a comment in another language that somebody translated. good stuff!
Good quality video. What was the repair order total?
Thumbs up 👍 very interesting comments and you’re working on it 😊
Power steering pump not the same so I’d say this video doesn’t apply to a 2003 ford ranger after removing the fan
Hey I have a 1992 aerostar and noticed I have 2 belts. Think I have to loosen alternator adjustment to get mine off since theres no tensioner. That sound right?
Honestly I don't work on too many of these arrow stars. I wouldn't really be able to tell you without looking at it
I got it fixed. Had to loosen alternator bracket to get belt off. Was couple little differences but your video helped tremendously. Thanks again!!
@@curtthechameleon awesome to hear you got it rectified and I'm glad the video was helpful. Thanks man!
Great video
I put a new water pump on my 2004 ford 3.0 ranger it has a weeping hole in the front under the freeze plug and it’s leaking quite a bit. What could be wrong?
Anyone know the exact torque specs on water pump bolts
Damn you're good dude
My 97 ranger 3.0 is losing coolant, no leaks on the ground. Seems to be getting worse. I just replaced timing cover chain and water pump and now I'm getting coolant in my oil. My temp gauge stays at operating temp and when I have high rpms it goes lower than operating temp so it might need a thermostat. Not sure how coolant is getting in the oil though, could it be from not properly putting teflon tape on the bolts in water pump/timing cover? I don't think its a head gasket because I don't have exhaust bubbles coming out of radiator or overflow tank. Any help would be appreciated.
Did the aerostar have ac
Does the ac system have to be depressurized
Is there anyway if the water pump is leaking for it to shoot up above? Cause I have a antifreeze leak somewhere below the the two hoses left of the motor but I can't pinpoint it myself. Also the belt squeaks bad
Yeah I suppose you could be getting on the pulley and shooting up
And would make sense that your belt is squealing
Yes indeed. Mine did the EXACT thing yours is doing. Was water pump. I had coolant spraying up to alternator and pooling under it. The water pump seals get bad and end up spraying out of the weep holes.
@@curtthechameleon one mechanic today said it's a 4 to 5 hour job and another said it could be the bolts ringed off inside timing housing causing it to leak. Only thing I can't get off is the fan right now
@@aerostar9376 it was the pump seals. They were shot. Got it changed. Fan was a bitch. Used pipe wrench and huge pipe breaker.
How do I flush out the old acidic coolant
I assume the customer didn't want the timing belt replaced
Risky with the timing cover where the water pump and cove meets the heads
I took mine to a mechanic because it’s running really cold and they told me it was a water pump.
Not likely. Unless it's just leaking from the water pump and causing your heater core water level to get low when the system level drops. No antifreeze in the heater core equals no heat
It could potentially just be the thermostat
I bet it has a reverse pop thermostat or safety thermostat what ever you want to call it. Maybe no thermostat at all a normal thermostat when fails stays closed and makes engine over heat. A safety stat when fails get stuck open so doesn’t over heat and damage or blow engine.
Omgoodness..my 95 3.0 liter ranger need of these things removed? Okkk..im adding antifreeze..will buy a new cap first.
I needed torque specs😢
Genuinely can’t get the fan off for the life of me
It’s just free spinning
Got it
How did you lock it in place to get the fan off? I’m going through the same
@@Kmascak1 to get the fan off I held the pulley in place with a crescent wrench. Just back yard improvising. Good luck getting to the timing chain seal cause if your doing the water pump seal you should do that too.
3:35 for the love of god, what else besides these 3 long bolts are holding this bracket on?!
