  • Tami Kramer of Nutmeg Notebook will be sharing her tips for losing weight utilizing a healthy plant based diet - Nutmeg Notebook live #91
Losing weight is the most popular goal for most Americans. We know it is the #1 New Years Resolution. That just goes to show you how difficult it is. It doesn't matter how much money you have, how much education you have, where you live, what your job is - losing weight can be a battle. 90% of the people who go on a diet to lose weight fail. They gain back the weight and often times even more.
My first piece of advise it to stop dieting. Yes that's right - stop dieting. Diets don't work long term. The definition of dieting is "A regimen of eating and drinking sparingly so as to reduce one's weight by going on a diet." Who wants to do that? Who can sustain that for long term?
We have to adopt a lifestyle that we can sustain for the rest of our lives. It is our healthy daily habits that will help us to lose weight and sustain that weight loss.
Tom Kramer will be joining Tami to monitor the chat feed for questions during the show. Please use 4 ???? before and after your question so he can spot them. Thanks

thank you for these videos/content; there is just not enough out there. im young and most people around me still eat SOFAS loaded foods like its normal, EVEN the vegan ones... its very hard to find content with like-minded people like chef AJ, PCRM, and you guys. ive been a wfpb vegan for over 6 years and it can feel so isolating when there is no one that understands why i avoid alcohol/oils/salt/etc.; i even had a family member angrily say to me "YOURE GOING TO KILL YOURSELF TRYING TO EAT SO HEALTHY!". Im so glad that your channel is taking off!!! I got a champion juicer and breville oven thanks to you guys; best appliances i own!!

You two make a dynamic team. Your hard work is truly appreciated. It’s obvious how much work goes into your presentations you guys are amazing of how much thought goes into your presentations. I’m always watching different Whole Foods Plant Base Shows to see where I can learn different ideas and important information. It’s hard for me to try and watch those shows that the presenters aren’t prepared and organized. Once again I thank you for the wonderful presentations you guys work so hard of having everything right for your viewers.

Plant foods are so freeing- no need to count calories. I love your advice of getting on the scale is up to you. for me, it wasn't healthy. instead learning to listen to my intuition and learning about nutrition was so powerful ❤️

I've found that I absolutely cannot eat greens in the morning... they cause diarrhea. Also, having a salad every day doesn't work... I don't have the teeth to chew that much, plus after a week of getting them down (swallowing whole pieces because of poor chewing) they make me gag. So, I'm not doing all that great.. I'm eating plants but probably the wrong ones.

I hear ya. Chef AJ says eat the vegetables that you like the most. For me, that’s a bag of peas and carrots. Or baby sweet tomatoes. As for salad, Get yourself a good salad chopper. It absolutely makes a difference. Now I eat my salads with a spoon.

I agree with Vikki...if you can tolerate it, and you have a good blender, go for green smoothies. Greens and fruit with some water, or ice, blended up. Just add the fruits and amounts you like with kale or whatever. It’s all adjusted by taste.

You have to compromise with one another. You can ask that trigger foods not be brought in the home or they be stored out of sight for you. You two will have to negotiate how to make this work.

  • @luluandmeow

Basically both you and Chef AJ only eat twice a day on a maintenance diet. I'm not losing weight eating 3 meals a day (I couldn't just have two, I'm too hungry in the mornings). Eating this kind of diet (which is great) can lead to weight gain/plateaus in time, despite eating a large amount of low-cal veggies. It's not really correct to say that you can eat any amount left of the red line and not put on weight, especially if someone has a history of yo-yo dieting or is post-menopause or a woman or petite, one still has to be careful not to ingest too many calories. I know I need to work on portion control as I'm a volume eater and find it hard to stop before I'm full-up.

    • @NutmegNotebook
      @NutmegNotebook  3 роки тому +7

Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment. I would like to clarify a few things. Neither Chef AJ or I say that you can eat any amount of food to the left of the red line and still lose weight. You have to eat only until "comfortably" full. If you are eating past being comfortably full you may be taking in too much food and stalling your weight loss or even gaining weight.
I have a history of yo yo dieting for 40 years, I am hypothyroid and post menopausal, over 60 years old and am only 5'3 1/2 inches tall and I am considered petite. Yet this is how I ate to lose weight and keep it off for 6 years so far. It does work.
Everyone who goes to True North Health Center and eats like this loses weight. Dr Goldhamer says if sees someone who is over weight he knows they are not eating enough non starchy vegetables.
I ate 3 meals a day when I was losing weight. I started each day with a dish of non starchy vegetables. It was just a few years ago that I realized I was eating breakfast out of habit not hunger. So I decided to experiment and wait until I had true hunger to eat my first meal of the day and that works out to be lunch for me. However I know many people who eat like I do and they eat 3 meals a day and are still able to maintain their weight loss. Several of them are very small petite women who are my age or older.
Try making each meal half non starchy vegetables and half starch. Eat the non starchy vegetables first and then you will naturally have less room left for the higher calorie food. This causes a natural reduction in the amount of calories you are consuming, The second tip is to only eat until you are comfortably full. If you continue to eat past that point - you won't lose weight and you might even gain weight. Wishing you well on your journey.

I understand your frustration -as I struggled for years even while eating wfpb, no oil. Several things come to mind that may help. I can speak from this position, I am a life-long over weight person, a former sweets addict, well over 65, and a volume eater. As I said I'd been eating wfpb no oil for 2 years and not losing. I didn't start losing until Feb last year when I became strict about eating left of the calorie density red line. At that same time, I read Dr McDougall's Starch Solution. He outlines the correct way to dish your plate, half non-starchy vegetables, half starchy vegetables.
Being a volume eater I eat large portions of a half and half plate. If I want more, I dish my plate the same way , half non-starchy veg, half starchy veg. Breakfast, oatmeal and fruit, lunch is a giant salad with a non-fat dressing and a baked potato on top. Dinner half and half plate. No baked goods, no bread or crackers, no cheating.
Last year I lost 40 lbs easily eating this way. I was not hungry. Keep following Tami, she is so inspiring and has many helpful weightloss and weight maintenance tips. She has kept her weight off many years following a wfpb, sos free way of eating. Don't give up, I know this for a fact, it can be done!
