    Today, Lawman Guitars is Presenting...
A very cool and very RARE vintage guitar. It's a 1965 Epiphone FT-28 Caballero Tenor Guitar with the original Soft Shell Case! It's in beautiful shape! These guitars were made right along side the Gibson guitars of this Era in the Kalamazoo factory. Very high qualit
Epiphone only made 250 of these tenor model Caballeros so they are hard to come by and very rare. The serial number dating doesn't register an exact date for these. I am calling it a 1965 just because. Its one of those years..
Those not familiar with tenor guitars..
    The three most common tunings:
C G D A - Tuning in fifths. (also common on mandolin family instruments)
D G B E - “Chicago” (same as a baritone ukulele and the top four strings of a standard guitar)
    G D A E - Octave mandolin (also used on bazouki)
We have it tuned in Chicago tuning so we don't have to figure out the other chords. LOL...it's a lot of fun to play. Mostly two finger chords that sound very unique
The guitar is in great shape. The frets are hardly played on. When we checked the truss rod, it still had original paint on the nut! I think we were the first to take the truss rod cover off. Of course the truss rod turns correctly for adjusting the tension. The guitar has just a few dings here and there. A lot of finish crazing which you always want to see on these vintage Gibson made instruments. The Bikini Badge E logo on the pickguard looks like it had been reglued a few times. It also has got a crease in the middle from picking. See pic 6. Most of these original logos are long gone. Nice to have this guitar all original to include the tuners, pickguard, nut, frets, end pin and bridge. Even the bridge pins and saddle are original. I was happy the original owner didn't install a strap button on this historic guitar. They were designed for headstock straps. Keep it "Old School"...
This guitar has a 22 3/4 inch scale neck and the nut measures 1 1/2 inches... Small C shaped neck profile. It takes a little getting used to. It's smaller than standard guitars. The guitar only weighs 3 lbs 12 ozs.
It came to us in the shown original Soft Shell Case. It fits it great. It's longer than the total length of the guitar. I believe this is the same case that made for the full size Epiphone Caballero. They probably didn't want to make a special case for just 250 guitars. Makes sense! All latches, hinges and original handle are still with it and operating as they should. The beautiful RED Plush interior is still in great condition and the accessory box is even still here
It is sold as-is no returns as its vintage and used. Thank for respecting that.

    Very Nice Mike.
I look forward to getting my Silvertone Tenor from Jeff.
I hadn’t really thought about the various tunings, with being a Bass Player. I just figured E,A,D & G.
I guess I need to pay attention to my Bandmates and their Violins & Mandolins and their tunings.
    Your Epi sounds real nice!
