- Just days prior to the 2003 NBA All-Star Game in which Stephon Marbury and Kevin Garnett would team up for the first time since Marbury's exile from Minnesota, ESPN threw together a piece detailing the history of a supposed feud.

They were set to be Malone/Stockton 2.0
Sad that these 2 couldn't make it work (mostly Marbury) because man imagine the fun it would have been to watch them play together beyond 99 and who knows they probably would have got Minnesota a title.
Well going by what is said on wikipedia the six-year contract that Kevin Garnett signed torn the team apart. It wasn't necessarily Garnett's fault, but the manager of the Timberwolves at the time.
they would have broke up anyway Marbury a head case....and kg was more talented
Yes, SM definitely could have been crucial support for KG and the twolves to get over the hump.
@Sherman Taylor Ehh Marbury wasn't perfect but I can't say Kevin was necessarily more talented with them I think it was preference of what type of game you was trying to run back then
KG def more talented than Marbury. Dude was 7ft with nice dribbling skills who could shoot off the dribble and do it often. Defend 1-5 literally for an entire game. Guarded Mike x3 for an entire game. Awesome passer, tenacious rebounder and had a bag. Of course marbury had better iso faceup game but that where it ends.
I hope these 2 guys reconcile one day. They were not only close when Steph was drafted and traded to the Timberwolves, but they were also close in high school playing AAU ball . As KG said in this interview, they have a long history, why keep this going especially that both are done playing and retired, and remember those times when they were young and let that stuff go. As KG also said in this interview, he and probably Marbury, would be really hurt if something happened to the other and they weren’t cool. As a basketball fan, it was definitely a joy to watch those two play together. I truly believe one, they would’ve if not won a championship, they would’ve been in the conversation for one if they kept playing together, and two , I believe, that jealousy on Marbury’s part , and him demanding and getting traded and things allegedly being said about Garnett behind his back from Marbury’s camp, lead to the demise of their relationship. They need to sit down by themselves, and hatch this out.
KG TOO REAL
Damn how the NBA has changed. This was a time when TMAC wanted his own team, or even someone like Jalen Rose wanted his own team.
Tmac wanted to be on a team with Grant Hill but he got hurt
almost teamed up with Tim Duncan but somehow Doc refuses it..
Kevin Garnett is arguably one of the top 5 power forwards of all time.
not even top 20
joann dortch stop hating"
malone barkley duncan mckale moses malone
thorpe rodman ect
joann dortch actually Tim Duncan is the greatest power forward.
Armani Smith your opinion kid
Well marbury went from vaseline eating, team feuding, deppressed, selfish, womanizer guy to chinese demigod and now has a chance at the hof with a solid nba career and college career and legendary impact on china
Counting his international impact plus his nba career hes a hof lock
There is only one Hall Of Fame. His NBA accolades are two all stars and a few all NBA teams and decent stats. His international stats include being the best player on the best team in China, a statue of him, a museum for him, his face on postage stamps, a musical, a bunch pf chinese MVP awards and all star selections, and a bio pic
Combining all of those there is no in hells way he shouldnt make the hof
Okkay???All Im saying is that Starbury is making the hof.
God Brandon
USA might hate on him and not enter him the HOF because he actually help a lot of black players think out side the box which is the NBA. He deserves more the stupid HOF if you ask me. But if he doesn't get it for some reason i think the NBA hof selection and NBA in general is hating on him for help the CBA become the NBA competition. Watch in 4-5 more years the NBA will become trash and all the best players will go play in China or euro league.Too many rules and regulation in the NBA it became soft men's league. The should call it SML lmao
Great upload. I like the maturity KG showed in this clip and what he had to say at the 2:18 mark. You can tell Malik Sealy's death had a big impact on him.
I respect him for being honest. When pride is on da line most people talk negative about da other person
kg has always been so real with us. never pulled any dirty punches with his fans. he played games on the court. old school. the breed dies with him
except this was 2003 and Sealy died many years later
Sealy died on May 20th 2000
absolutely my friend
Would've been amazing to see them go head up against the Lakers during those years.
They could have been the hybird Stockton and Malone
I always thought that was Nash & Stoudemire
If Stephen Marbury would have stayed with Garnett they would have went far
KG is the realist brother alive.
Imagine if this tandem would of stayed
I read Kevin Mchale wanted to call Stephon Marbury and David Falks (then agent) bluff. That if Marbury wasn't traded he would take millions of dollars less and sign with Chicago through free agency. The Bulls at that point were terrible. However, owner Glen Taylor wouldn't allow Mchale to risk it after losing Tom Gugliotta through free agency. And hence Marbury was traded.
steph it mostly due to the weather, being away from his family and multiple car accidents
lowkey steph look like a bald d.rose lol!
Sanders Moody
I thought he was Allen Iverson's brother.
Low key ? I thought it was moderate key
Lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣 low-key Starbury look like " the Brain" and KG LOOK LIKE A DARK SKIN "PINKY"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Basically a lite version of Shaq vs Kobe in the Lakers
Those 2 could have been something in 'sota
Classic.
This was one of my fav duos to watch as a kid....i was upset when marbury left.....I wanted shaq and penny to play together longer too smh lol oh well
in the more recent years the NBA had didn't have legends like west bird johnson jabbar robertson chamberlain + russell
KG hasn't aged at all
Sad when an ego (marbury) gets in the way of greatness. Same with shaq and kobe.
+SAHLISS It didn't get in the way Garnet''s greatness - he was the more valuable player by far.
Tomi Adewole im talkin about how great the Wolves as a team could have been, not just the individual success of garnett. Think about how much farther the wolves could have gone if marbury just accepted his role as Robin to KGs Batman
And that is where Phil Jackson is king at managing egos.
Yeah a lot what ifs in the NBA. Penny/Shaq would've been amazing!
BS! The NBA is a business, Steph knew that since he was in 6th grade, he got paid his worth and got his family out of the projects, that’s all that matters!
Steph should have stayed they could have been special together
I thought it was a bad decision to leave Minnesota those two Garnett & Marbury would have wreck the NBA together.
....yep and add Latrell Sprewell to the mix too
Real Timberwolves fans know if they were together in 2004 instead of Sam Cassell, they would have won. Spree, KG, and Steph the most hood team in NBA. Lol
Marbury instead of cassell would’ve been sick. They took the lakers to game 7 that year.
Why was this suggested to me in 2020?
Im asking that myself right now. I would have loved to see this before not now so far in the future when it isnt as relevant anymore.
Stephon Marbury was jealous of KG's super stardom period
Amadou Ndiaye Yea the type of dude Marbury is Unfortunately
🐂💩.. Steph had no reason to be jealous
@@TommyGibbs1 He was it's not secret, KG was the much better player and he was the franchise player, Marbury didn't like being the Robin to KG's Batman so he requested a trade
@@anjr9915 That’s media BS! The T’Wolves could NOT pay Steph what he was worth so it was time to go… the NBA is a business, all of that “Batman and Robin” nonsense is for silly fans
@@TommyGibbs1 they paid kg that huge contract and left Marbury nothing. If they’re a duo then both should of got big contracts. They did Marbury like a role player.
Ego man who man you gonna get paid regardless man SMH
Wish they could have made it work
Definitely not. The lockout happened after Garnett's contract. The most Minnesota could have offered Marbury from the new rules was 6 years for 72 million. It was Marburys jealosly of Garnetts 6 years 126 million deal that drove the break up.
It had nothing to do with salary cap space as the offer for Marbury was the max they could pay. Whether Garnett's contract spurred the lock out is a whole another question.
Marbury let the media get to his head
Kg tuned it out
They could have won rings together if they set their egos aside
Too bad Kev and Steph didn't stay together
Basketball middle age 😂😂
I think Stephon Marbury had to much ego
Good thing he doesn’t get paid on what you think
Newbies in the comments actually think they would've won a chip together if they stayed lol. Lakers beat that ass! Kings beat that ass! Spurs beat that ass! Dallas beat that ass! Even Utah on the back-end of their run beat that ass! Get a clue
Actually Minnesota won a 6 game road trip against all those teams right before marbury got traded dumb ass
@@derekdebomb9964 oh so that means they would've beat those teams in a 7 game series right? They couldn't even make it out of the first round when it was 5 games
They could in 2004 or 2005 when SHAQ and C - Webb startrd to decline.
i'll be 100% honest with every single thing i say + i HATE garnett + i SOMEWHAT like marbury
Stephon told the truth.. Stoudemire was better than Garnett at 18..FACT.
***** Garnett 10.4ppg, 6.3rpg, 1.8apg, 1.6bpg, FG%491 - Stoudemire 13.5ppg, 8.8rpg, 1.0apg, 1.1bpg, fg%472
now please...STFU.
Duce Vasquez because he stated what everybody knew?
Because he had to big up then current teammate Stoudemire? Cause then he would be throwing Stoudemire under the bus.. Being PC and sucking up in a PR MOVE he would've said they are similar
+SDS Overfiend man listen i been a Marbury fan since Georgia Tech (Besides A.I. 2 faves coming up beside Jordan and Tim Hardaway)been a loyal fan threw his whole career even threw the ol so bad times.Whether Amare was better then KG at 18 or not is not the point the point was Steph threw and unnecessary shot at KG,to give Praise to another you dont have to shit on the other.Idk what happen in Minnesota but my perpective was always....KG got that big ass contract worth 100 mill in 98 and Steph was on some how about me? Look at me? Why i dont ever get credit for what i do?? But he was gonna get paid man he just had to wait a bit his Ego and our Nyc mentality of gotta get that bread is what fucked up a duo that was gonna go down as one of the best ever
donstatusnyc87 True.... But Marbury kinda knew he was a Big part of that reason he got that contract and his numbers skyrocketing....Marbury should've humble himself tho.. That NYC bullshit is in us
Lol so fake
