  • Kevin Garnett wasn't a consistent 3-point shooter, but his long 2-point jumpers helped bring big men into the pace-and-space era. In this episode of Signature Shots, ESPN analyst Kirk Goldsberry traces The Big Ticket's evolution from a low-post dominating MVP with the Minnesota Timberwolves to a title-winning master of pick-and-pop jumpers with the Boston Celtics.

Great story about KG - My college Bball coach told me a story about playing against KG when he was in highschool. He was a PG and said he drove the lane and threw up a floater. KG snagged it outta mid air, dribbled to the other end, dunked on 3 dudes, ran over to the scorers table, pointed to my coach, and said “give that boy an assist” 😂

Okay, so let’s say in 99/07/14 Duncan played with ‘Hall of famers’ who played at a good level. He still then won 2 titles with teammates playing average to poor, so he won 3 titles with the equivalent help KG had and could only win 1 championship with (Allen, Pierce, Rondo, all of whom are also HOFamers) and 2 titles with scrubs, something KG never did.
Hence, I’m showing you your statement is just wrong, and winning coach of the year doesn’t make you an all time coach, Casey won it and got fired the same year, Pop was gonna be fired before Duncan was drafted and saved the franchise, I was around, no one was talking about Pop being an elite coach until 2007>>>

@Vain Freeland 1000% Correct. Duncan lost gold medal with USA Dream Team cause Ginobili humiliated him and America 3x in between 2002 and 2006.
Garnett never had 1 hall of fame player in Timberwolves. I don't remember stats of Admiral in finals but what I know is that hall of fame player no matter the age is more valuable than Dean Garrett in prime. Dean never score 10 pts once in his career. Admiral can score 70 points in his sleep. I agree with you Duncan is most overrated PF ever. He is not even on Mailman or Elvin Hayes level. He cant shoot free throws, doesnt have vertical, he cant guard perimeter (USA 2004 disgrace is the reason cause Duncan cant play multiple position especially to defend pick n roll FIBA style and euro stretch 4 and 5 players bigs). He never leaerned shimmy post or fadeaway shoot. Literaly if he not face his signature bank shoot , he cant score jump shoot cause he is less talented and less skilled so he lack of many post shoots especially fadeaway and shimmy dream shake likewise reverse or up and under layups. Most of his points came 1 on 1 cause he was 7 footer never double teamed cause no coach in history will left David Robinson wide open to double team Duncan. Also having the Admiral is big advantage cause he is most athletic center after Wilt Chamberlain , so Duncan no need to worry about dozen jobs on floor he can focus only on 1 side of the rim or wait like a coward under the basket while Admiral lock some big or navigate him to Duncan. Not the case in Timberwolves...Garnett literally wasted his legs and health doing 5 , 6 jobs on the floor.

    • @cullenbaker7642
      @cullenbaker7642 3 роки тому

I just check finals 2003. You was right indeed. Robinson had 17 rebounds and several huge blocks. Wow, even old he was superstar.
Imagine 17 rebounds in 2000 slow pace era where Pistons hold record allowing teams only 70 points per game. Thats the hall of fame greatness. Even old he can find different way to impact the game. Difference in between role players and hall of famers, when HOF gets old he can do billion other things, he reduced his scoring but man, 17 rebounds and 4, 5 bloks in finals man. Admiral 50 goat for reason. And Duncan is nobody. Just a wagon of great system and great team.

KG was and still is my one of my favorite childhood players. I'm happy he's in the HoF.
Like Doc Rivers said, the starting lineup of Rondo, Ray, Pierce, KG, and Perk have never lost a series.
    07-08: Went 66-16 and a championship
08-09: Started 27-2. Went on a 19 game win streak during that run. KG, the defensive anchor, gets injured in February for the rest of the season. Finish 62-20 (They would have went for 70-72 wins before the injury). Lose in 2nd round to Orlando.
09-10: KG returns not the same player he was. Doc starts resting his players for the playoffs. Finish 50-32. Beat Orlando with KG this time and were up 3-2 vs LA then Perkins gets injured in Game 6 and they lose.
That team wasn't a one and done. They were made for a 3peat. Injuries cost them. Ignorant people who never watched them play clown on them because they want to follow others instead of educating themselves.

Boston was only able to get KG and Ray because of some trades, and there’s no way they would’ve been able to make those trades work earlier in the careers. Ray Allen was just reaching the end of his prime so the Sonics (soon to be Thunder 😡😡 under a fresh new face of Presti) were happy to get a Top 5 pick, and an aging KG did return a lot of players to Minnesota. Although outside of Al Jeff, Minn didn’t do much with the picks and Boston obviously won their trades with the ‘chip. But no one would have made those trades even a few years earlier, where oddly enough Gp led Sonics beat the KG wolves, which led to KGs eventual frustration... but also Sonics not getting farther caused them to trade GP for Ray Allen.

@@ahmedalaesa8161 an argument could be made for Dirk to be better because of how much more effective he was at scoring; but KG is better at literally everything else Defence, rebounding, assists, steals, blocks, better career and single season PER, better career DWS, better single season peak as a player, and lastly Garnett can fit to literally any team because you don’t have to build AROUND him where as Dirk always had to have a defensive oriented big man in order to find success such as Eric Dampier, Tyson Chandler, Brendan Haywood ect

When you look at the Mavs/wolves matchup in the playoffs back in 2002 dirk was the better player by far. Dirk also contributed more to his team with his championship and was the undisputed focal point that delivered in the fourth quarter. Against a team that beat KGs team which had a finals appearance only a season before. Dirk won his championship as the solo all star on the team while kg had 2 others plus a future all star in rondo. You can look at stats all you want, but KG has never matched dirks greatness in the playoffs.

Then you are crazy. Duncan and Dirk made the playoffs and wasn't a first round exit like KG.

@@magodtrick3166 Dirk was a first round exit in his MVP season, losing to 8th seed GSW as a first round. Despite playing with other stars
Dirk was unbelievable in 2011 but don’t think he was flawless
Also he can’t defend like KG

@@magodtrick3166 How is he crazy? That's HIS favorite, its not like he said Paul Milsap or someone like that. And KG has 1 ring just like Dirk. Both couldn't do it by themselves so that's why their teams were put together.
