      What do you mean? The UK kept voting for them. It is the english population at large that are the cause behind this. Not so much Scotland or Northern Ireland. But England and their inhabitants who never failed to vote in leaders who tried to combine far-reaching neoliberalism with liberal immigration policies and blamed the results from the experiment on the European Union. Largely the story.
      What I am trying to say is... what the Tories did, does have democratic mandate. After all, they kept winning the elections, am i right?

Few questions asked. That surely hasn't helped on property prices or house ownership options for the natives. The tories sold the brits out to the highest bidder quite consistently for so long is where I am getting at. Ironically, it all happened with the consent and democratic mandate of the british electorate which for some reason keeps voting conservative. • @A190xx
      @A190xx 8 місяців тому +2

      It sounds that way, but it is much less worse than the alternatives.
      With the constituency system, each area has an MP, who is responsible for their area and accountable to their electors. As we have seen, they have the ability to depose an MP if they are underperforming. And we elect the person rather than the party, so an MP can resign the whip and change parties if they wish, as paradoxically Reform has allowed Lee Anderson to do.
      Under proportional representation, one votes for a party, so we cannot depose our MP; and indeed the party leader is virtually guaranteed a seat with just 0.6% of the votes; we do not get someone to look after our area, so a party could focus in one region to get enough votes rather than worrying every area.
      And when one looks to Reform's hated EU, most nations have PR and many end up with no overall control and some go months without a government at all. The need to horse trade rather than full power also sees a mishmash of policies to please all parties that can often contradict each's goal.
      In short, as Churchill said (ish), "it is the worst form of government - except for all the others that have been tried."

      Because of the way we elect MPs. Our system sadly isn't very democratic at all. We use a simple majority and the first party with enough MPs wins the election. This leads to rounding errors where a party can have a significant number of votes but because they are diluted into different constituencies it's never enough to get an MP. Knowing this the major parties often redraw the boundary lines to deliberately dilute votes from opposition parties to make it more difficult for them to get MPs. This is called Gerrymandering. by measuring the backgrounds and character of their members.
      Most labour MP's came from the same privileged schools the posh twit Tories usually come from. Majority of them are cut from the same cloth.
      The same privileged back grounds that completely divorce them from understanding common people they are meant to represent.
      Most labour MP's do not rule with any benevolence for common people, they have served the interests of other rich and elite in corrupt fashion.
      And most of the previous Labour MP's who were in touch with average people are either retired, or they were expelled by the Blairites.
      There's virtually no real opposition to the tories anymore, just 1 posh twit talking to another posh twit and the 99% of us common folk have to pick up and pay their tabs every time.
      We were already used to tories being a bunch of rich self serving twats who believe their being born into wealth gives them divine right to rule.
      But when Tony Blair transformed Labour into rich self serving twats it completely stabbed the common people in the back.
      To the 99% of us normal people, neither the red or blue party represents us, very similarly to the conditions that sparked the French revolution, the common people's votes were often vetoed by the aristocrats and the religious factions.
      A reform is clearly needed and many of us would rather vote for any alternative to Tory or Labour today since both are so corrupt and no longer represent anything we can relate to.

    Sunak was in a losing position before he even became leader. Boris was ousted. he lost to Truss, and then was scrambled in to replace her and do what he can to stablise the proverbial party boat. if anything that is his win. he has done that, and the tories finally seem to be stable. What they don't seem to realise is people don't forget that easy. The man that was elected is no longer there. the party fell apart in the interim, and meanwhile Starmer has weathered multiple storms, has had some decent push back, made himself known at the times he has needed too. A Labour win will not be surprising. the surprise is by how much. If the tories want power back they have to remain stable throughout, and that might not be enough. as Starmer could potentially deliver some changes households feel for the good and earn him or Labour another term after the fact.

    At this point Sunak just needs to call a GE and get it over with. The longer he holds out the worse the Tories trouncing at the polls is going to be. Tories need to re-invent themselves and this current generation of Tory leadership needs to retire. Relying on the votes of pensioners and incels is not a viable long term strategy

    MRP surveyed 15,000 people over 650 parliamentary seats that works out to 23.07 people per constituency. To be honest that’s not impressive as each constituency has between 72k in England and 67k in Scotland. Brings into question the honesty and integrity of a poll like this.

    • @dex6316
      @dex6316 8 місяців тому +1

      We are looking at projections here. If labour achieves 403 seats they have a majority in the house compared to the 247 seats other parties have. 403-247 is 156 which is pretty close to the 154. Perhaps when putting it in the calculator someone gave labour 1 less seat by accident and 402-(650-402) is 154 seats. Note that 403+155+49+19 = 626 and not 650, so the exact number is off and they should have focused on labour breaking 400 and tories dropping below their abysmal defeat in 1997.
