derrick gd Right, I'm just saying that in this case the noise was caused by an actual transmission failure rather than just low fluid, though the noises could be similar.
Will it move? Mine wasn't making this noise, and then it was acting funny on the way home, and when I took it out of Drive, it gave up. Wouldn't select anymore gears. Needed to be completely rebuilt at a cost of over $2000. You could get a used replacement for cheaper if you'd like. If the car is in nice condition other than that, I hope you can save it. Too many of these in the junkyard as it is.
so, i find myself here at 9:20 wonder if i will have same issue. My 99 gt has a whine in trans and acts funny a tade time to time. did your tranns ended up going out as well? and wgen you stomp into it hard did it feel really rough like sliping in trans but rpm was not. thanks
At the time I had this problem, the transmission would no longer shift gears at all. Prior to this, it had been shifting fine, or so it seemed. In hindsight, it may have been slipping a bit during that last drive, but I don't remember it being as bad as you describe even then. I ended up having the transmission rebuilt and it's still going for me even now.
I got my transmission fully rebuilt, still makes this whining noise

That's a low trans fluid sound my Chevy 3.4 made that sound I changed the fluid(6-7quarts) the whine went away and the ride was a lot smoother
This has been more than 2 years ago now, but I think I checked the fluid and it was okay. Trans was dead and needed rebuilt.

mine slips out of 3rd and 4th.. 2000??? im getting mind rebuilt fully, with stronger componets for 950..
