    This is such a great shelter, up here in Alberta the Cimarron paired with a stove is a game changer for late season hunting or camping

    I love my Cimarron. I have the full and half nests for summer and the stove for the cold and hunting. With 2 people, 3lbs each roughly. I've had in winds over 40 mph and had zero concerns. Great gear for sure.

      you got the regular one..or the light? I know the stove jack is in a diff place and one day for the light...so if you're using a half nest..and a stove, it's going to be VERY close to the nest..IF, you have the light. The Reg. would work better. Tha'ts interesting that you got both the full and half nests. Hmm.. cool

    Emory great video! I've had this shelter in my cart more times than I care to admit but have yet to pull the trigger. Im located in the northwest corner of Washington state and during many or our early season hunts (August bear and September archery deer) the bugs are horrible. Have you found this to be a big deal with a floorless shelter? I know I could run the inner nest to take care of the bugs but IMHO that take away most of the benefits of going with a flourless tipi. Anyways awesome content and keep up the great work!

    • @EmoryByLand
      @EmoryByLand  3 роки тому +1

      Totally get understand! I’d say if the bugs are really bad then a floorless might be rough. I’ve never had my in bad buggy conditions but I will say the tend to congregate at the peak inside. The nest is a good option to go with and you still have a flexible shelter when the bugs aren’t bad. I think it’s worth the extra weight!

    • @dcentral
      @dcentral 2 роки тому

      You have the option of a half nest for this shelter to protect you from bugs, still light weight. They also have a new shelter with a floor and fully inclosed with reasonable weight. I find that with floorless tents, mosquitos congregate at the top and they have escape routes so they don’t bother you as much. I learned from tips from others to burn a mosquito coil which does a great job at repelling them in my Cimarron.

    If the conditions are right for a floorless shelter, what conditions are referring to? I am looking at buying for my son who would use it in Colorado elk and deer hunting, September-October elevations from 8,000 to 10,000 ft.

    • @EmoryByLand
      @EmoryByLand  3 роки тому +3

      Mainly referring to the buggy seasons or areas that are prone to snakes, or other critters that you don’t want coming in for a midnight snuggle. Desert hunters aren’t big fans of floorless for example.

    • @missingthehills4732
      @missingthehills4732 3 роки тому

      Get a half nest for those times. Double wall tent then. Stove is usable with the half nest as well. You're safe from critters, can dry clothes, stay warm and cook off the stove. Just make sure it gets seam sealed. Easy to do yourself. I'm a big fan of this product.

      You can attach some strings to create a clothes line but I’ve never needed to.

  • @Freestylematt139
    @Freestylematt139 Рік тому +1

    I’ve had massive condensation issues and flooding of the tent/ground during a Colorado elk hunt this September. Condensation rains down on the inside in heavy rain when stuck inside for extended periods and during sleeping with wind. Soaked absolutely everything.
    Curious on your thoughts

    • @EmoryByLand
      @EmoryByLand  Рік тому +1

      Oh man, that sucks! There’s a lot that can go into reducing condensation, but nothing is perfect. Sometimes conditions are just crappy and you’re left with battling regardless. Airflow and location are big factors. If you’re set up in a field that is ripe for dew, it’s going to cause problems.
      You can also try adding a liner or nest to your setup.

    • @Freestylematt139
      @Freestylematt139 Рік тому +1

      @@EmoryByLand I feel like it defeats the purpose of the ultra light set up if you have to turn around and buy line lock extensions, liners, nest… etc… overkill in my opinion. This thing also weights about double to triple when you have to pack it up wet. The stove is nice until you have to pick up and move 3 times while hunting… As you can tell I was super stoked on this product until I put it through the test of real world conditions. Maybe I got unlucky i dont know

    • @EmoryByLand
      @EmoryByLand  Рік тому +1

      I agree 100%. At some point the juice isn’t worth the squeeze and you’re right about it getting heavy when wet. That nylon material will do that so if you can spring for the cuben fiber stuff, that will help.
      My advice is to ALWAYS be objective about what’s working and what’s not. Just because tipis are popular doesn’t mean it’s for everyone and everyone situation. Maybe you’re in an area that is better suited for a standard tent. No big deal, just reset and adjust now that you know.
      I’m personally beginning to lean towards a standard semi-free standing tent for east of pitch and footprint. Every situation is different so you just have to find what works.

      He does not have the stove jack on his cimarron. I do and I have the tepee in the regular version with both doors. Personally I LOVE having both doors. It makes life a lot easier when multiple people are using the tepee with a stove. That being said, it isn't going to kill your experience or make it too difficult by having just one door. I would not worry too much! You are going to LOVE your tepee!

Between us, the gear, the stove, and the firewood it gets pretty full... that being said, it is not cramped or anything like that. I know this is an older video, but I've used the cimmaron hunting with a buddy with the cub (very small) stove. It worked well, helped by me having the ultralight model with 1 door. That lets the stove jack get moved to the non door side directly in the center of the shelter as opposed to being offset to the side like in the 2 door models.

    • @crookedarrow3535

      @@peterhansen2781 thanks for that info. I was considering the one-door model. I’m planning (way ahead of time) on a bird hunting trip in northern BC, just me and my dog, and weather can be pretty nasty even late august/early september. Though I like a good campfire, if it starts pouring, i figure I’d be happier inside with a source of heat, also to perhaps dry out some socks or a jacket.

    Considering this for a November hunt in Montana. Will be using a stove. I’m skeptical about floorless, because I’m from Louisiana and we have millions of insects.
    When do you think you should go with a floor vs floorless

    • @EmoryByLand
      @EmoryByLand  3 роки тому +1

      Totally get it! It’s hard to disconnect the two buggy worlds especially when you come from a place that has a lot. By the time November rolls around in Montana, bugs are no longer an issue. It’s more an issue about this time of year when the snow melts and mosquitoes hatch. Floorless in Montana in November is a non-issue. You can always get a nest to go inside as well just in case !
