  • When choosing the M2 MacBook Air or the M1 iPad Pro, is it one or the other? Will iPadOS 16 continue to push the iPad closer to a full MacOS experience?
    For those of you trying to make a buying decision whether for business, personal, or as a student these two devices are very capable, but at the same time very different in what they may be able to do for you.
    I don't think it's necessarily one or the other, but rather the MacBook Air and the iPad (or iPad Pro) as complimentary devices.

    For some I know this may seem like a silly question, but you might be surprised (or not) about how often this question comes up. And I realize that for many of you out there that the iPad is much easier to get access to vs. any of the MacBooks in the line up based on where you live.
    Do these two stand on their own (the iPad more than the MBA), or do we just have to accept that these are just complimentary devices?
    Sending you all my best. 🤘

    Thank you Kevin, for your Opinion and hard work! IF Google could properly optimize Sheets and Docs Apps to work on iPadOS, I would upgrade to the M1 12.9. As it stands, it takes me longer to work with a Sheet on iPadOS than MacOS... That being said, it is actually quicker for me to use my M1 Base Model 13" MBP for Office/Clerical work than iPadOS devices and upgrading to the M2 Air would be a no-brainer for me! Next issue is Graphics work/content creation. I have templates in Adobe inDesign and illustrator, that right there puts me to using MacOS and again use of (non Pro/Max) M1 or M2 Laptops.
    Video or Audio Production? Both can get the job done! Basic Video work; Filmic Pro, since you have a decent camera with the iPhone and better with the iPhone Pro/Max, a step up from iMovie would be LumaFusion, which works on MacOS now! IMHO: You can work on the M2 Air with footage created from FilmicPro and edited in LumaFusion (I don't have the M2 Air, so mileage varies with your knowledge of the Apps!) I am testing FilmicPro on iPhone 13 Pro with 4K 25fps Extreme Bit Rate, and editing in FCP on base model M1 Mac mini 512GB SSD, to see if I really need more than the Base Model 14" M1 MBP???
    FilmicPro has a bundle on the app store: The filming app, a Remote app that allows you to have a view finder and controller on another iOS or iPadOS device; and Double Take, allowing you to "multi-cam" on the latest iOS & iPadOS devices!

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  Рік тому +1

      I’ll be interested to hear how FilmicPro works out on that setup when you start working with it. Should be fine though.
      And yes, totally forgot to mention how Google docs isn’t fully baked for iPadOS. I remember trying to edit a table or something like that and I couldn’t do it on the iPad.

    Great review !!!Last year I dig for the M1 iPad pro Most use for Image editing + Web activities. Also the Apple version Epson printing program is fantastic. Overall the screen quality is a mind blowing. The important part was my strictly Budget The 256 version ,Smart Keyboard, Stylus precure, plus Apple care include Taxes $1418. My solution to the conundrum is to have both, and I'm not rich. I have an iPad mini 6 and an aging mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13 (which I upgraded myself). Does the MBP come close to the M1 or M2 laptops in terms of power or efficiency? Of course not. But I'm able to dual boot to Windows 10 or Catalina so all my essential productivity applications are available to me, or I can play on the iPad mini with its superior screen and portability.
    My point is, by not going top end on either one I am able to have both.
    BTW, I recently retired from a long career in healthcare (specifically, behavioral health).

    Hi Kevin, good thought question. I used iPad because it’s a iPad and work like a iPad. Main benefits like touch screen, ease of use, simple apps, long battery life, easy to updates, very much cheaper productivity apps, mobility, immune to malware and viruses. Perfect device for content consumption.
    Whilst my M1 MacBook Pro is still doing fine for the occasional serious work. I’m retired so I’m not bounded by software requisition. And for my work, the M1 MBP works buttery smooth, with more than sufficient performance, long battery life and a wonderful screen. No complaints whatsoever. The M2 isn’t much better but more expensive which defeats its purpose or utility.
    In between, I have a M1 IPad Pro 11” too for some quick photo editing with the Apple Pencil. It worked like charm.
    APPLE should keep iPad as iPad, iPhone as iPhone and Mac devices for serious high performance productivity full fledged software.
    APPLE shouldn’t compromise and make an ass out of a donkey like making iPhone behave like an iPad, while making iPad to behave like a MAC, in the wrong and misguided belief that that’s what the masses wants.
    Cheers and have a happy wonderful weekend

    • @KevinRossRN

      Oh I remember getting the first iPad and it really lived up to its name as a big iPhone. Those apps were half baked or not at all.
      And thinking about on that I can have a renewed appreciation of where (and how) iPadOS has evolved.
      I just wish that now they can figured out the app container (the grid), but I suppose that’s what makes it an iPad, right?

    • @PSM-IPADZ_OX
      @PSM-IPADZ_OX Рік тому

      @@KevinRossRNIT as a whole have evolved and came a long way from being primitive to highly sophisticated with a fabulous UI.
      iPad have reached maturity so any further development in both hardware and the iPadOS with the apps are more to keep APPLE revenue and relevance in the tablet market than a leap in technology.
      Services is where the future is …. Perhaps leasing out devices fully fleshed out with all the APPLE services would grow the company and profitability. APPLE can only do so much with a tablet the size of a tablet.
      Yup, the grid is horrible. Lack of imagination or creativity. It’s a regression. I intend not to hurry to update to iPadOS 16 nor to buy any more iDevices until the path of progression is clearer.
      Every step that APPLE takes is of diminishing returns. And the customer pays more until they start to feel the pinch and question their necessity to keep feeding APPLE sales.
      On all the APPLE OS platforms IOS, IPadOS and MacOS, the apps and software are lagging. But that’s a blessing in disguise, we get more headroom and less a performance hit along with thermal throttling.
      Stay safe and cheers !!
