As far as the CB thing goes .. Mower Junkie is deep into it like I was 40+ years ago. Old time 11 meter Dx'er. It is a fun hobby. Might find a broken rig someday for parts. A lot of knobs are similar too. I bought a V58A, but haven't got anything to put it up on yet. Once I get something I'll put the thing together and stick it up. Some years (over 10 I think) ago I bought a Ranger SS-158edx. I hook it up to my short wave antenna sometimes and listen. 11 Meters has been wide open at times. I have a love hate relationship with galaxy/ranger. They're great when they work but it's tough getting them reliable. I just had a DX99V in for repair and it had so many solder joint problems. Traces are super thin. But great find especially for 40 bucks ! Cleaned up nice ! 73s

My galaxy 99v2 doesn't have the " warm up " drift though I expected it to come with when you open that 149 you may see a lot of " ranger" notes my galaxy99v2 had a stock mike with Ranger on stamped back Nice sounding recv wish my 99 as that quiet ( need to get aluminum antenna up) antron holds air noice at worst times
I got 1 of these brand new back in the day. The best sounding receive and best low dead key audio radio I ever had. I think it had the old school 1969 finals. Very smooth and clear audio. Sold it to get it's big brother 959 with the freq counter. Didn't sound as good as the 949. These convert extra channels easy.
Yeah those Ranger 198 mics suck. I forgot what I paid for my 949 off eBay but it was used on a boat in Florida but the guy put a thick clear plastic adhesive sheet on the case and kept it nice a new looking.
Put a hair dryer on the receive Crystal it will not drift . Same board as the base station 2547. It’s got a IFR 520 mosfet for a final bias it at 100 ma it will scream ,,. UDX38 JohnBoyUtah chow John you New Yorker! Chow

I had a 949... the TX and recieve were superb, but it would not stay even close to on frequency to save it's life, even after having it re-tuned...
Yep that's galaxy ranger you got to open up the clarifier especially if it has SSB or frequency will not stay stable

You can use the tone switch to do the channel mods on that radio.

Replace the meter detail it and you have a gem john have one in my collection NOS never hooked up after it was tuned and aligned great find!!!! 73s
