    Dear Eddie today I was explaining to my 11 years old son why the multiplication of two negative numbers results in a positive on a number line, he was taught in school that multiplication is repeated addition, and he asked me to explain it in this way only, I couldn't, I told him that that is true only for positive numbers. We ended up arguing and stopped talking to each other. Can you explain it your future video. Remember he is 11 year old.

    My school uses these lectures in a fully digital "web school" package. I paid over 3k for this package so I could get the math and physics diploma I need for CS. It's literally just a sorted catalog of this guy's videos + some self-recorded garbage with poor mic quality, bad explanations, and answers drawn with the mouse in MS paint... I'm at least really grateful I don't need to listen to only the self-recorded lectures provided by my school for a year. But they did charge me over 3k USD for a selection of publicly available videos...
    I want to add; even though the school I choose suck. This guy is really awesome, none of my previous teachers can even compare! If you are willing to spend some time looking you can learn everything you need from high school math from just this channel.

      @D4RK AuraZz how to use the difference of 2 squares?

    • @dae8105
      @dae8105 5 років тому +1

      @D4RK AuraZz Well, by taking out the 5a, you're left with two square numbers inside the brackets. 1 is 1^2 and 4a^2 is 2a*2a. This means you can rewrite the whole expression as 5a(1+2a)(1-2a)

  • @alittax

    3:43 Isn't the main reason that one of the numbers is a prime number, and the other doesn't have that prime number as a factor?

    • @carultch
      @carultch 7 місяців тому

      The number 1 is a trivial factor. Any expression can be multiplied by as many 1's as you want, without changing anything. An application of this, is unit conversion factors, where to change a number from one unit to another, you multiply by 1 in a fancy way. For instance, given 2500 meters, if we want kilometers, we multiply by 1, which equals 1000 meters/1 km, which gives us 2.5 km.
      Another reason why you'd multiply by 1 in a fancy way. In calculus, there's a method where given an integral of x/(x^2 + 1) dx, it is of interest for 2*x appears in the numerator, for the method we'd like to use. Since it doesn't, we can make it happen, by multiplying by 1 in a fancy way, since 1 = 2/2. This allows us to produce 1/2*integral 2*x/(x^2 + 1) dx. If you aren't familiar with calculus yet, don't worry about it, just observe how this is a useful technique for hammering an expression to look like the form you want. If you care, the solution ends up being ln(|x^2 + 1|) + C.
      In that example, he factored it to 2*(24 + 5*a). If for some reason, we REALLY WANT a to appear without a coefficient, we can continue factoring it as 10*(24/5 + a). You could also factor it as 24/10*(1 + a/10), if you wanted that form as well. It doesn't look as clean and simple, so it is usually preferred to only factor enough to still leave constants as whole numbers, where possible.
