Love my Yamaha MusicCast but the app needs much work to it. I have had these conversations directly with Yamaha about this the first year it came out. Again I love my MusicCast speakers and other amps and streamers and could not live without it. I have not used MusicCast with Alexa more than once to test it. I would hope they could add in a alarm and timer feature. Its cool that Sonos has this feature and can set different music channels to come on or off at certain times. Thanks for your video!

Thanks for this explanation. I will be selling my Yamaha streamer purely because of this. Time for a decent transport that supports Amazon HD.
When I use my Yamaha MusicCast the streamer is actually taking the stream from my iPad or phone (not direct from the internet) and limiting the quality to CD level.
I kept the Yamaha as it receives a good range of web radio, so I use it as a tuner now.
I bought a BlueSound node which streams high resolution Amazon HD (they call CD quality HD, and anything above Ultra HD) directly from the ethernet.
My phone acts purely as a remote control; I checked by completely turning my cell/mobile off... the track still plays at high rez.
Does this apply to the Yamaha NP-S303 network player?
That will determine if I make a purchase or not.

Thanks for this video. Have there been any updates that allow for streaming of Amazon Music HD? I'm looking at the Yamaha R-n803 receiver, but if it won't stream high res from Amazon that will make it a no-go.

@@COGuyStuff Just wondering, on my MusicCast app although it only has an HD icon, on a line near the progress bar it says for example "FLAC 96khz". Are they lying?
Dissapointed my Yamaha RN-602 doesn't support Amazon HD in the latest FW. I'd love to sub to Amazon Music HD but I'd be tied to my desktop to receive the full HD.
My receiver isn't that old a model so, doubt I'll buy Yamaha again with the lack of support offered for this. Shame, everything else is excellent value to performance.

Hopefully they will. In the meantime Tidal has treated me well. It's $7 more a month but I can verify all tracks play in FLAC format on Yamaha receivers.
I have a Yamaha R-N602. The Amazon Music option used to be available in MusicCast but not now. Firmware 1.36 is up to date and app is also. I wouldn't care as I could use my Chromecast audio to connect but, although the connect option is available in Amazon Music using my Amazon HD tablets, it won't recognise my Chromecast device. All works fine with my Samsung phone. I will have to cancel my subscription.
I'm running the Yamaha r-n303. Too bad they will probably not release a firmware for Amazon HD. This is a shame. The cheapest option would be an Amazon Echo Link going into the Yamaha.

I can't get a measurement, but probably I'm not getting UltraHD music because of my system's limitations. Definitely getting CD quality music! Day and night difference compared to Spotify. Already a Prime member so a little extra money is well worth the listening experience for the CD quality music alone.. Downloaded Amazon Alexa and Amazon Music Apps to my Google Pixel 2 android phone. Casting to my UltraHD 4K Sony TV. TV is connected to home network and internet via ethernet connection. Have a digital optical connection (not HDMI) between TV and my older Flagship Marantz AVR for audio signal. AVR has capable of TrueHD processing. Now I MUST convince wife that I have to upgrade AVR so entire system is HDCP 2.2 compliant. :-)

Not any recent models no - but it does have more support than Yamaha for streaming.
Flagship R-N803 Network Stereo Receiver STILL doesn't have Amazon Music. I don't understand it. It's available on some home theater receivers - but what percentage of people are listening to Amazon music on their home theater receiver? Yamaha makes dedicated stereo receivers for music and they don't include Amazon music? Must be some sort of corporate Clash or conflict. It would be great if they finally brought Amazon music over to the 303, 402, 602 and 803. Sigh...

Me too, all of my Amazon Ultra HD tracks play at AAC on my Yamaha receiver....not good!
@@LFCliid Kind of a late reply, but yes. I have Tidal and everything comes through as a FLAC file (lossless). Amazon HD comes in as AAC (lossy).
All tracks on Amazon HD play at FLAC. Some songs play at 44.1khz/16bit. I do get some that play at 96khz/24bit and they sound pretty good. I agree that the MusicCast app is terrible. It’s different than Spotify in that you have to stay within the Yamaha app when you listen to Amazon. At least with Spotify you can use the actual Spotify app which is very good but sound quality is not that good.
Ever since I started using the new Amazon Music feature on my MusicCast devices, the music seems to randomly stop playing (usually after a few hours) every time I use it. I can open the MC app and start it again and it is good for a little while. My MusicCast devices are connected via Ethernet cables, so not a Wi-Fi issue. I also use Pandora and Spotify and never have this random stopping problem, so I doubt it is an internet problem.
Just this morning, I updated the firmware in my MusicCast devices to the latest. I hoped this latest update would fix my amazon music stopping problem, but it just happened right now.
Not sure if it is an amazon server issue or a MusicCast issue. Anyone else have this problem? Any tips? Not much info found on this topic when Googling.
If it’s AAC then it’s not the CD quality FLAC file Amazon uses for HD....it must be 320 Kbps...... 😣
i have the amazon music app on my android phone - can i bluetooth this to a yamaha v485 av receiver? I currently have a sonos 5.1 set up but looking to change as find the sonos playbase a bit crap for dialouge.
Yes the 485 has full Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity to all services
You can, but you would loose the benefits of HD/Ultra HD since bluetooth compression is lossy.
I will likely go for a denon receiver as it has a big 'amazon music' button in the heos app - slightly more convenient than using bluetooth.
I checked my sonos stats and i only stream around 0.5% music! the rest is TV sound.

How does Amazon music compare to Apple Music?
Apple Music is low quality, not even close. Same with UA-cam and Pandora. Only Amazon HD, Tidal and Qobuz are leading.

Sure the hardware is good but not so the software to run it. I have had the Yamaha Musiccast system for almost a year and it's buggy and not very intuitive. Also, they don't offer Google Play Music nor UA-cam Music as a streaming service. This is insane. One of the most widely used music services in the world and it isn't included in the app. I'm a huge fan of all Yamaha products (from motorcycles, to instruments and audio) however, I am really disappointed in Musiccast.
You're right the interface sucks!!! Too bad it doesn't just integrate with the Amazon music App.
