- Some Yamaha AVR receivers and processors got a new firmware update to 1.94 recently adding support among other things for Amazon Music UHD. Unfortunately it didn't ad any value and the interface is still as useless as it has always been. Look elsewhere for great music streaming as usual.

It's too bad. Musiccast is great for other things, but the interface for amazon, tidal and other in-app streaming really needs work. Luckily spotify has its own spotify connect api.
Just noticed this. With Spotify the Music Cast app points you to opening the Spotify app but Amazon Music you get this proprietary user interface crap.
@@bradavon that's coz spotify has spotify connect an amazon doesn't. now tidal is tidal connect to. They have APIs that let 3rd part systems control their music, so we can use their apps to control other devices. That said, Yamaha (and Japanese companies in general) is also at fault for creating such a mediocre interface.
I own an Aventage RX-A4A and can't even play music this morning via MusicCast. This whole weekend, Amazon has been down, and Tidal has intermittent streaming issues.
Mustccast is much better than the terrible HeOS, in which you can't load more than 500 songs and Deezer Hifi is not supported...
It's a shame Chromecast doesn't support Amazon HD or Ultra HD as that would be a simple way to bypass Music Cast and stream from the official app. That's how I use BBC Sounds on my Yamaha but that's just streaming radio.

I just purchased an Amazon 4K Firestick Max. Plugged it into HDMI 4 in the back of my Yamaha rx A3060r and even though it says the tract is 24 bit/192 kHz, it is also saying "device capability is only 16-bit/48kHz". What am I doing wrong? I can't find any answers to this and I am desperately hoping to find an answer. Please help! Thank you!
You are wrong at 9:29. I can actually go to the sound settings menu and toggle the audio information to on and I'm able to see the audio format and frequency... Which by the way happens to show FLAC - 96 Khz for the song little room
Ah ha! Thank you for finding that. And that confirms what my ears were telling me, it’s still not playing full quality like the Amazon app does, making it even more useless lol
Playing this song now thru my Yamaha RX-V685 and it's playing FLAC 192 kHz
@@COGuyStuff Exactly where is the sound setting menu I can not get the audio format to display and am unable to find the setting to toggle the audio information on.
@@leeharris4015 it's the button bottom right corner whilst you're playing a song. The same menu you can change the recievers sound modes. It's a long menu so easy to miss further down is a toggle for Audio Information On or Off.

Ok, just found this, I have 5 pairs of WX010 in stereo, these have always had a habit of dropping out, especially when linked. I have a net gear nighthawk tri band router. AD 7200, I did have a linksys satellite router with 3 units, but this was not as good. I'm told the big issue is processing speed of the router? Yamaha has been no help. I love these speakers, and have learned to live with drop outs, but was wondering if you have any tricks up your sleeve. This really does tarnish badly what is potentially an awesome product
Is this thing now locked into auto volume levelling? Think the latest firmware has goosed it.

Hi, this is really useful. Thanks. Quick question, when you use the 4k Firestick in your video, it plays at the native 24 bit 192 kHz, but with mine plugged into my Yamaha RX-A2A, my 4k Firestick thinks the Yamaha can only play at 16 bit. Any ideas?
Make sure the app and os and Yamaha firmware are updated

are you sure that using the TIDAL inbuilt app service it is better than using your phone to chromecast? At least on chromecast I can see it is showing HIFI ( green ). When using direct app there is nothing to say it's using HIFI
Should be the same. He said Bluetooth not Chromecast. Chromecast is also directly accessing your account like Music Cast. Assuming Chromecast supports the stream. It doesn't for Amazon Music HD, haven't looked for Tidal.
Hey Bryan, did you ever have problem with the app not being able to connect and find receiver? My WiFi finds everything else in my home, so I have to go thru the connectivity all the time. But looses it again

I'm having the same issue did you find a solution?
They replaced the receiver twice. The third receivers problem has a different issue as when it looses the WiFi connection when it is off, when I-put it back on it regains the connection quickly. It should always stay connected according to Yamaha, just plain weird but I still think it’s not perfected. Some times it stays connected for days and sometimes everyday it looses it. Guess I will have to live with it till I replace and it will not be a Yamaha…

Thanks for the video! Just purchased my first receiver in over a decade. Needless to say, the upgrades are insane from 15+ years ago! The one issue that I couldn't figure out was how to add Amazon Music to the source section. When I select "Edit Sources," there is no option to include Amazon Music. Any help is appreciated.

Only sources that make a direct connection can be used with that. Amazon doesn’t do that, so you have to use airplay or Bluetooth.

Unless I'm missing something with Heos, it seems like you can't access custom playlists. Which, for all its deficiencies, makes Musicast a lot better. I'm at least mildly annoyed at what the Heos functionality is with Amazon Music, I feel that it's so bare bones that they shouldn't even list it as compatible. Found this video as I'm contemplating if it's worth jettisoning a couple year old Denon for whatever the equivalent Yamaha is.
How do you add your Apple Music on the MusicCast App?
You can't. Both apple and Amazon are very protective of their services and want you to use their services directly from them. I've been trying to research this issue for a long time. If you subscribe to Apple music, you can "cast" your audio over to a Google Cast device but unfortunately, musiccast devices don't support Google Chromecast or Google Cast. You would have to purchase something like a Chromecast audio but unfortunately, they don't make them anymore and they are going for ridiculous prices on eBay. There is one other option to cast your Apple Music using DLNA or Airplay BUT you have to have an Android device, and you have to root your phone.... It's Called AirMusic.
It's basically a bunch of effort because these companies don't want to be semi-open source.
@@CeeStyleDj a regular Chromecast can also be used as a Chromecast Audio. I didn't have a spare optical port for my Chromecast Audio so now use my Chromecast for audio. The device needs HDMI of course. I've still got my Chromecast Audio. Like you say it sucks they stopped making them. They were unique devices.
@@bradavon I know man I already considered that. But I have a Roku for that purpose. I like the Chromecast audio because it has the composite mini jack audio and optical output and I could plug it into my DAC or Line Input on my stereo amplifier. As you said with the regular Chromecast, the device needs to have an HDMI input which not all stereo receivers or integrated amplifiers have. And if you don't have that, then you have to get the stupid converter box. I read somewhere online to someone noticed that a patent was taken out from Google and the device suspiciously looks like a new version of the Chromecast audio so it may be coming back. But I've heard that they still support the old Chromecast audio contrary to what the internet says.
The most important question for me would be if Atmos is supported, which so far was only available for the Amazon speakers. This would be amazing! Is there any info on this? Thanks for the nice video!
Nope. Total gimmick and only on a couple Amazon speakers for the foreseeable future.

Never understood the point in Atmos on a single speaker. Atmos is object based sound. Most Samsung phones have it. Just a gimmick too. Good luck getting object based sound from phone speakers 😂

my bad technically no the Yamaha Music Cast App doesnt have an actual search option, i was thinking of another app , i use HifiCast alot & it has a search option.
However i do think finding a specific track is pretty quick in Music cast, you can very quickly go to an Artist, Album or Song since everything is alphabetical & scrolling is fast.

I find it pretty strange that Yamaha (RX-V6A) allows me to change my volume settings from _dB_ to _numeric value_ on the unit, but the same remains in _dB_ on the Musiccast App, forcing me to peep through my glass table to see the volume _(in numeric value)_ on the display.😫 Surely there's a reason why I changed it on the unit in the first place!🤷♂️
And the inability to stream Tidal directly to the unit makes it difficult to see most track info such as lyrics to the song etc. They should add more capabilities and features to the App for it to be intuitive and user-friendly. And Tidal could learn a thing or two from *_Spotify Connect._*
It’s up to Yamaha to include services like tidal connect. I have it in my processor. Yamaha just hasn’t added it. Yeah the app sucks.
@@COGuyStuff I'm hoping against hope that they fix this in an upcoming update?Including bass management on sources like my CD player.🙆♂️ Got bass from subwoofer when watching movies and streaming music, but none whatsoever when playing CD's. I'd have to go to LEVELS and bump the bass up to +8dB to enjoy CD music. The sad part is that change is global. And I'd have to go to settings to dial it down every time I change sources.😏

Yeah. For me Lossless CD Quality is a gimmick. The standard Lossy music is already 16-Bit / 44.1Khz. It's the Lossless High Resolution that makes a difference or what Amazon confusingly call Ultra HD.

I'm using a Yamaha WXC-50 streamer and guess what. Amazon music isn't supported on this device. I bought this NIB less than a year ago and Yamaha has stopped supported it! This along with a complete absence of product tech support is why I'll be leaving Yamaha products forever. Fortunately they don't make anything I can't live without.
