Crappy phone camera recording of the strings section in my Call of Duty WWII main theme "A Brotherhood of Heroes". Nashville Music Scoring, at Ocean Way Studios.
It was quite surreal! You're very much on-the-clock and every second counts at these sessions, but it can definitely be the most fun part of the job as a composer :-)
Thanks, Oxidize! And yes absolutely, it was an incredible honor to work with the Sledgehammer folks. I'm so proud of what they accomplished on WW2 and happy to be a part of it!
This is the best score (and menu screen score) I have ever heard! If there was once score I wish I would have written, it would definitely be this one! There is so much beautiful movement that tells so many stories in it! When I heard this for the first time, I honestly almost didnt even feel like I needed to play the game cause the music told me everything. I also didnt want to strat the game because I didnt want to leave the menu screen. 😂
Beautiful fucking amazing I am so I love with This song it makes me cry every time if I saw this in. Person I’d probably loose it and die This song is beyond amazing I don’t know how it did what it did to me but it did and it’s the first and only song To ever do it
This soundtrack is a direct conversation with the universe/creator. I cried for this and kept looping instead of playing the game. One who feel it is blessed ❤️
This is the same guy who made the main theme song (A Cup Of Liber-tea) as well as many other songs for Helldivers 2! It's no wonder why both songs sound so intensely triumphant and patriotic!
Good ear! So for the final version, we recorded high strings, low strings, and all the brass separately so that we could have more control over the mix. But for this first runthrough we recorded all the strings together so that everyone could get a sense of what the vibe of the score would be like.
Heroes don’t wear capes, they wear dog tags Heroes don’t wear bright jumpsuits, they wear olive drab Heroes don’t fight with laser eyes, they fight with laser sight, Heroes don’t fly, they fight
loved this! i get Giacchino's medal of honor vibes, this is an amazing theme and i love the warm or the string section without post processing when you can hear the musicians breath in the rests. i would love to take a look on the sheet from this score. great score!
One of my top goals as a composer is scoring a Cod or something for Cod....thank you for the beautiful music! Probably the most underrated score in the series. This coming from someone who's over analyzed every score wayyyyyyyyy too much
I played the crap out of the game mode war, both me and my brother would play split screen on it, I loved it and by far one of the best games modes I have ever played still . shame this game wasn't seen as a good game by people smhh D:
That passage @0:56 (which also is in Birds of Prey) always gets to me... Just as I've found the WWII soundtrack, Birds of Prey, after playing WWII, and I remember this same passage when in the game how I paused (and naturally died) as I was so struck back by it... Hey I even replayed the whole chapter, just to get to play through that moment again at the end of the taking of the bridge. It was so powerful.
Thanks so much, Björn! :D If you're interested, I was thinking of putting up a handwritten sketch video showing Birds of Prey - it's one of the only pieces I wrote for CoD that turned out almost exactly the way I initially sketched it. I keep meaning to do it but I think I (eventually) will now - thanks again! :-)
@@RogetMusic thank you for replying! But also "thank you for your music" (as ABBA sang), found it to be a fitting comment since I'm from Sweden and wanted to thank you for the music! :D Furthermore I'd be very interested in watching a sketch video of Birds of Prey! I mean what a treat! :D Thanks Sir Roget :)
Man this is great, does your DAW software create the sheet music from music you create in it, which is then played by the orchestra, or do you create the sheet music yourself?
Thanks, and good question! So for CoD the process was for me to write and produce the music in my DAW (Reaper), then I exported the MIDI and audio stems (isolated track-by-track renders) for David Shipps and his orchestration/part-preparations team to create the sheet music for the players. It's a delicate process that takes a lot of careful detail so that the musicians know exactly what to do without confusion!
Just watched the cellist come to my school to perform fiddle music for us, then telling us she did the main cello for the call of duty ww2 soundtrack...
@ 1:46 Oh my god I want to volunteer a Scientific experiment because someone like me does not cry easily but this song does e specially the live version brings me to tears like actual crying I DO NIT KNOW why I am so in love with Themis peice the instruments all of it it’s fucking beautiful probably lose my mind if I were to ever see this live I’ll probably have a heart attack LOL yes is that serious this shit does this to me
For melodic themes like this, I usually start by writing on paper! Being away from the PC helps me be more freely creative, musically anything can happen and no ideas get restricted by logistics. Then once I'm satisfied with the paper sketch, I'll go into the DAW (Reaper) and make a piano-only sketch of the piece, to make sure that the timing and form are solid. Finally once I'm confident in all that, I'll do the arrangement/orchestration/production.
@@RogetMusic ahh good ol Nashville. The players are incredible as you say. It takes an incredible composer as well my friend! I would love to sit in on a session like this one day.
Thanks for your kind words Gyro! We have the soundtrack on Amazon and iTunes, www.amazon.com/Call-Duty%C2%AE-Wwii-Official-Soundtrack/dp/B076HFWFQ3 If you're talking about the orchestral sheet music, you can see that at ua-cam.com/video/qNorSNEstb8/v-deo.html :-)
