It's the way of the world....Republicans only complain about the national debt and federal spending when democrats are in charge. If republicans are in charge, they spend, spend, spend and never say a word about the national debt. Then, democrats come back into power and clean up the mess republicans have made. It's a never-ending cycle. I always love how rich people are so ready to CUT entitlement spending rather than figuring out a way to make those programs solvent.

Precisely. The so called fiscally responsible Tea Party didn't submit a single bill to lower the deficit or debt. What they did do, is submit a host of bills to force Christianity into our homes, workplaces and government. The correct name for them is the Tealiban. The only difference between them and the Taliban is the religion. That's exactly what the magats and Project 2025 want to do.

Exactly. If they plan on taking it away and don't want to see an uprising the likes of which they can't even imagine, they had better have a plan to pay back every penny, PLUS INTEREST, to everyone who ever paid in. If I could have kept all of that money that I've paid in over the years, and have invested it wisely, I would be able to retire in 10 years when I'm 55. But I guess they'd rather take our money, hold us hostage, and work us until we all die.

It is that good middle-class jobs that used to be in this country moved overseas for the benefit of hedge funds and corporations far richer than you. Together with their captive judges and politicians they are part of an elite class who have become significantly more powerful…. It’s very sad when you get more truth telling from the comic page than the front page.

There's a good reason why Trump went on and on about immigrants eating cats instead of talking about groceries prices: (1) the global pandemic caused a global inflation, (2) Biden/Harris's Inflation Act ended it faster than elsewhere AND cuts the deficit, (3) the Biden economy is much stronger than the Trump economy (GDP growth, unemployment rate, monthly job creation), (4) during the inflation, average wage growth outpaced the inflation rate so people could actually buy MORE with their paychecks, and (5) today economists show that Harris's plans will continue to grow the economy while Trump's ideas will shrink it and cause another inflation. Obviously, in those circumstances the GOP will avoid talking about economic facts as much as possible...

How much older can people be before they receive Social Security and medicare? Are they hoping people die before they collect the money that has been taken out of their paycheck their whole life? I thought there was a change in 2022 increasing the age to 67, for people born after 1960, but it appears that it is just a republican proposal for now.
"If you start receiving benefits at age 67 you get 100 percent of your monthly benefit. If you delay receiving retirement benefits until after your full retirement age, your monthly benefit continues to increase."
"Recent proposals to reduce program costs include a recommendation to raise the eligibility age for Medicare from 65 to 67 - put forward by a 2022 report from the House of Representatives’ Republican Study Committee - and a proposed work requirement for Medicaid coverage - a recurring Congressional consideration during federal budget negotiations."

Rand Paul is correct that we at least have to have a conversation about spending that conservatives call "entitlements". I'm not saying that we should cut that kind of spending. I'm saying that we need to have a national conversation about how much that spending costs us, what the benefits are, and whether there isn't room for greater efficiency in some areas. I absolutely don't want retirees to get a benefits cut. I do want to ask about whether we're buying prescription drugs at the best possible prices, whether we are tying public expenditures on health care to lifestyle choices, and so forth. Republicans want to cut "entitlements" on the general principle that people who aren't wealthy are second class human beings. Democrats are willing to overspend so as not to be like Republicans. There has to be an approach that combines the cost awareness of the Republicans with the egalitarian impulses of the Democrats.
