Venus Williams vs. Aussie Open Umpire

- Venus Williams in a heated exchange with an umpire at the 2008 Australian Open during a doubles match with her sister Serena Williams. This is the same umpire (Eva Asderaki) in the 2011 women's final at the US Open.

If Venus gets angry, you can bet she is right because she NEVER gets angry. If you get Venus angry you know you messed up as an umpire hahahah.
Lmao true
yeah Venus has only been this mad like 3-4 times in her whole career.
She is right.she never complains.
I agree, Venus never gets angry
When Venus is angry watch out
She will destroy you faster than Serena can beat you
never saw venus so vocal on a tennis court. this must have been such a glaring mistake for her to be so angry.
love you vee!
Advice to umpires: If Venus speaks up, you better listen. Venus never does that unless something is really off!
***** damn right! she is quite rare to complain, but when she does, that means she's absolutely right and you better follow what she wants
Anggi Raymond Pardede Exactly! I can't even imagine an umpire that wouldn't listen. Venus is pure class on (and off) court!
yes
@@anggiraymondpardede111 Yup!
For Venus to put up that muchof a fuss, it's because she's 100% sure she's right.
Wow I seldom see Venus get so upset.
I can't believe the chair umpire admitted that she saw the ball out and didn't overrule... WTH?? Love how Venus called her on it without cursing. LOVE HER.
Venus asked the umpire, "What are you here for if you can't call the ball?" LMAO...she was so right...you are the umpire, do your damn job!!!
Maybe, because of the fact that they see THOUSANDS of points every day, they can also miss 6 or 7 balls? Never thought about it? You never miss an exam or something at work, mr. Perfect?
@@ermattia Weird the umpire admitted to being wrong if you actually listened
I agree. The call was close. It’s hard to see every ball. I’m a pro and I’ve been a roving umpire and if it’s too close, you let them play. Umpiring is really hard. Especially it’s hard to please everyone. And they get verbally abused.
No, it's putting your point across effectively. Note that even though Venus was heated, she did not swear at the umpire, was assertive and got her point across really well.
There's a difference.
That ball must have really been far out to get Venus that upset. She is usually so calm and keeps her emotions to herself.
Asderaki notoriously screws with the Williams sisters. She definitely has something personal against them. Shes in that chair 90% of the time in their big matches.
Pam cracks me up saying "She should have kept her mouth shut." lol. I have never seen Venus that mad and she was RIGHT!
Queen Vee is the most well - respected player in WTA, she never gets angry unless the chair umpire makes a bad call
this is the most venus has talked on court easliy in the last 10 years!
How very rare to see Venus arguing with an umpire over a call. Very rare.
Because the umpire got caught in a lie… That’s why Venus was so vocal
this same umpire was in every time that serena had bad calls
No its wrong. She was in 2011 us open. Which she was right
@@secrets.295 nope
@@black_nebula Yes
@@black_nebula And btw, the 2004 incident was Marianna Alves. The 2011 incident Eva Asderaki. They look alike but not the same person. The umpire here was Asderaki. She did the right thing back in 2011
@@secrets.295 I know who the umpires are lol and nope
i LOVE how serena takes her frustration out on that overhead
The problem with those types of rules in Tennis is that they are rarely enforced by the letter of the law. I've seen "hindrance" calls where they did allow the point to simply be replayed, just like i've seen many "foot fault" not get called at crucial points in a match. Had the hindrance call been made anywhere other than the US Open, I don't think Serena's nor anyone else's reaction been the same. Problem is that Serena has some history of bad calls at that tournament, so she goes in on edge.
it’s always the same umpire I swear😂
Love seeing Venus be feisty! :D
And just to add to the arguments: At least Venus and Serena are still around - look at their contemporaries, Justine Henin, Hingis, Clijsters, Capriati, they're all gone from the game but the Williams are still around and still winning!
venus: how to fight without lossing ur class. Period.
They are so right to be pissed off here. If the umpire clearly states she thinks it's out why on earth wouldn't she overrule the decision? That's what she's there for!
Lmao at Serena's overhead at the end xDDD
That ball looked out! Also I have never seen Venus that upset when talking to an umpire lol She's always so calm and collected
Exactly right, I think that's what upset Serena and Venus more that the umpire said she saw the ball out but wasn't going to overrule.
What a bad call. She admitted to seeing it out but yet she called it in? WTF?
Have i missed someting? Why didnt they challenge?
Were they on a court without hawkeye, cause it seemed like it was a show court.
She should be banned from umpiring their matches if she is that biased!
Never seen Venus upset like this before.
Early in her career she was more vocal. See the Venus v. Novotna 1998 Wimbledon match.
ua-cam.com/video/F3lmktApSgY/v-deo.html
venus and serena never argue with a call, but you can see why they did.isnt this the same empire who also called a ball out when in was clearly in during one of serena matches at the u. open?
Ya, several times.
I love how Serena just smashed the ball after :D
"and you can't lie on that b/c that ball was real far out"
lol love venus!
isnt that the same ump that was at the serena/capriati match
I remember watching this match, they wernt on a hawk eye court so after that point they just hit every ball that came to them and they won
GO WILLIAMS'S
Exactly, thank you :)
lol serena says "this conversation is over" and venus keeps talking about it
Look who the umpire is.... EVA ASDERAKI! Dun dun dun
When are you Gunna give me my apology , say your sorry !!! 😂😂😂
I never saw Venus angry.
They're pretty fair depending on the players...and judges do make subjective, gut decisions, but a judge's worth can only be shown by how many gut decisions they make correctly.. having the final say and making the right call are 2 different things...Kader Nounie, Carlos Bernardes, Lars Graf...Exemplary refs that I can't remember ever making wrong calls...
I am surprised I have never seen Venus this angry ever. Venus is usually in control of her emotions. I do agree with Venus the chair umpire is wrong. Venus has a right to express herself and she was correct.
I love it how Serena smashes the ball at the oppenent!
Do u have a idea what the argument was about before calling them "clasless"?
I think that's what she meant in 2011. I thought she was talking about the 2009 Chair Ump, but I was like, "but it was the lineswoman!"
I said the same thing, just differently. lol. They're great referees because more often than not, they'll get the call right. Even Hawk-Eye has a margin of error.
I've seen both Carlos and Lars make a wrong call (the former getting CHEWED OUT by Andy Roddick because of it), but, of course, that definitely does NOT take away from their awesome umpiring. I'd pick any of them to officiate my matches (bot NOT that woman that goofed the Serena/Capriati match at USO2004).
Eva Asderaki disgraced herself here. She's usually very spot on.
is that the same umpire serena told her she was a hater and was unattractive inside?
DizzieDaCrazzie88 indeed
i know right..." when she sees her she will definitely look the other way"
LOL..... "What are you here for if you can't call the ball!" Venus was mad, but that was funny how she went off on that Umpire!
Wow,never seen her like that?! Quite surprised...Wasn´t there the challenge-option on that court?!
The umpire said she thought is was out. If you think it was out then overrule the call its that simple
@TheEuphony69 Nope, that was Mariana Alves!
Jerzy Janowicz, of course
it always has to be eva asderaki against the williams sisters.
If Venus argues it usually is for a good reason, because she never does. She usually just says whatever and moves on.
Say whatever you want about Venus...winning Wimbledon is what gets you into the history of the sport not winning a Tier V tournament Possum Ridge, Tennessee!
If venus gets angry surely the truth is with her. ☺
@TheEuphony69 no she isn't. That umpire was Marianna Alves. Eva is the umpire that chaired the match between Serena And Svetlana Kuztnetsova at the DOHA 2009 championships and ruled the exact opposite on the same play, where she awarded a penalty point to Stosur at the USO, but allowed Serena to replay the point in DOHA after the Hindrance violation. Eva is inconsistent in her judgment rulings.
This stupid chair umpire have given the WS hell over the years
All of Venus' outbursts have happened for really valid reasons. She lost some beads back in the day (like in '99) and was penalized for it by the umpire. That was the first time she really got angry. After that, she kind left the anger part up to Serena. This is why we don't want to see the wrath of Venus. Beneath that cool, calm, and collected exterior is a woman who doesn't take the BS. Kinda scary... but I love both of the sisters.
No, Eva has never had a problem with V or S before. I really like Eva, but she was clearly wrong here. Still strange to see Venus get more upset. She rarely loses her cool. People often mistake it for not being as passionate. They're wrong!
that ball did look out..
funny how that umpire is always the one wronging serena
where's hawkeye??
I agree with you on the first 2, but Asderaki was unquestionably correct on the 3rd. If you watch the vid, you'll see that Serena's yell clearly hindered Stosur's return. However, i do agree that she was rather harsh to give Stosur the point, it definitely should've been replayed.
The ball was in. What was the issue? did the chair call it out?
If so, wouldn't the other players be the one upset?
The ball was out but the court didn't have Hawkeye. Later in the conversation the umpire stated she saw the ball out but didn't overrule the lines person -- which frustrated Venus and Serena.
The were on an outside court with no hawkeye.
love it how they both argue with the umpire! haha
Venus wasnt this animated when her way wide serve against Lindsay (Wimbledon in 2005) was called in was she lol
Why would she be? The call didn't go against her...you're just commenting trying to bring something up against Venus. Go sit down somewhere
@@eizyaws Don't tell me to sit anywhere dude....... I stand by my comment that venus stood on the other side of the court knowing full well her serve missed by a foot and said fuck all, so she's a hypocrite (regardless of her skin colour)
if u say that why the hell are u saying serena and venus are your favourite players. Thats just ironic. No offense lady.
Damn, she kept asking the same questions 4 times
I'M IN THIS VIDEO! 33seconds in guy in the brown cap in the crowd! THTZ ME!!
BTW the ball was out. that lines woman was so out of sorts it wasn't funny. She looked like she was sleeping half the time.
if venus is angry then umpire is wrong
If the official said that it may have been out then she should have overruled and made them play the point again. They were in their rights to say something. She should have kept her mouth shut if she was not going to overrule. And need I remind you that the reason for the replay in tennis was because of a clear misguided line call made against Serena.
what a load of crap. i agree that serena is very mcenroe-like, but venus is one of the most honorable and gracious players there are. she was rightfully upset that even though the chair umpire saw the ball was out, she decided not to overrule the lineman's call.
Because quitting the sport, right before ur "favorite" tournament, with no farewell tour for ur fans (and right before a surprise drug test), and lying during matches is classy right?...If henin would lie during a match she would probably use steroids
Eva again? Man she has it out for the William sisters lol
oh yes i agree
No, it´s not the same unpire. She looks like her but it´s another one. Venus was hot out there lol
gosh they have been wronged too many times its disgusting it really is!!! isnt within the chair umpires power to overrule a linesman's call if so why if she saw it out would she do nothing about it!!!!!!! I love it when Venus gets mad!
Same umpire Serena argued with yesterday!
This grunting argument comes up alot, and this is my view on it. Grunting is not hinderance, for the sole reason that the player does it when they hit the ball. Maria Sharapova doesn't wait until her opponent has prepared to hit the shot back and then scream, that would be hindrance. However, that's exactly what Serena did and that's why hindrance was called, you see what I mean? It's just like if you yelled 'You're gonna fall!' to a sprinter crossing the finish line, they probably would.
@uztoobz HAHA. Poor Asderaki. But the sisters have a point, and she should have called a "let", accusing Serena of trying to cheat. That's probably why Serena snapped.
😲😲😲
They always gotten bad calls ! Remember serena win a point and the umpire gave it to the other player
one grand slam a year now tahts better than like 3 titles a year
@anguipo ARE YOU SERIOUS! THE MATCH THAT SERENA LOST DUE TO THE 4 BAD CALLS ON IMPORTANT MOMENTS? Serena probably did not recognize if, if it was me id really go off
Ouch! Its Eva Asderaki + williams sisters...awkward....
seems like when it comes to wimbledon they are on their best behaviour
Honestly, I'm not a Stosur fan but also not a Serena hater. If any other player did this, fan or not, i would still be on the side of the other player. Bad sportsmanship should not be tolerated from any player, but obviously you're not mature enough to realise that.
This is a really old video lol
isn't that serena's job to argue.
woo woo!
lol
yay
too funny
i love it when they play together
thats true. am a die hard venus fan. but she should win more definitely. example? 08 aus open that was her tournament considering she killed sharapova in warm up event. she ends committing all sought of u f errors against ivanovic. i went crazy in that match
People think Serena the one to watch out for it’s Venus when she has a point to prove she’s not the one
Yes . Early in Venus's career she was very outspoken and feisty.
dammm... that overhead from serena at the end.. woohoo :D
oh ok,thanx. they look similar and make just as bad judgements
when venus angry like this she is looks like one in a movie.
oh yeah it isnt!!! I just double checked, she just looks like her....
This is the dumbest comment I every read. It's only four tournaments in a year, you are establish if you win one a year, to my knowledge since Serena there has only been two players that has won two grand-slam in a year that was hennin and meresemo since 2003.
