Absolutely, a "First Class" account of how to read Holy Scripture. I've read Fr Behr's interesting talk on UA-cam three times,. In this informative lecture he has opened up the Bible for me in one hour that has taken many biblical scholars volumes to write.

👍👍 I'm reminded of the saying "Christ is the way to the scriptures" and not as some insist "the scriptures are the way to Christ". For the Christian, He is immediately accessible so there is no way to Christ because He himself is the immediately accessible Way.

Thank you Father, l saw you many years ago when you covered for Father Elias in the church of our savior in Rye New York and l truly loved your sermon. I have benefited greatly over the years listening to your lectures. Father l desperately need your guidance as I'm troubled over the issue of ecumenism and the old calanderists; is either one heretical, how intense in the conflict. Not sure how serious l should take one or the other. Please clarify this problem for me Father, as l so appreciate it.

It seems strange to me that the inspired texts of scripture could not be understood _as scripture_ by the authors of those texts (or, in other words, the Jews). Why does it have to be so obscure? It was inevitable that the Jews would reject Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah because there was nothing in their own scriptures that would lead them to expect a crucified and risen Messiah (who was also God incarnate!). That is really bizarre. Paul persecuted the church before his conversion precisely because a crucified and risen Messiah was contrary to scripture- until one reads it back into the text! This is all very strange.

I don't want to be rude, but I swear every single lecture Fr Behr gives is exactly the same.
He has a million different titles but the same content, over and over again.
    Here's a checklist:
    1. I've been working on Ireneus.
    2. Here's a quote from Ignatius. "Birt hpangs are upon me" etc.
    3. The disciples just don't get it!
    4. Remember when Jesus called Peter Satan?
    5. Opening the scripture and breaking the bread! Their eyes are opened, then he's gone!
    6. We're not at a disadvantage living 2000 years later. We know Christ the same way.

Same thing when I watch N.T. Wright. Great stuff though.

Yeah, that seems to be the case with a lot of professors. It's generally connected with their academic specialization.

@@justincomer903 We need to hear what might be the same thing many times. Eventually with God's grace some of it may sink into our hard little hearts and make us porous to the truth of the Gospel.

I would disagree with your analysis. I’ve seen Fr. Behr give this lecture, and then I was present when he gave a fantastic lecture on Blandina, and then a time where he gave a nice lecture on living ones Orthodox Faith. In that lecture he touched lightly on scripture, instead he taught how to live Orthodoxy and the meaning of such, also what to do when we “ Run Dry”, and then a nice segment on types of prayer, it was amazing. Having had the good fortune to sit with Fr. John and break bread with him was a treat. We had a long discussion on many topics, the man taught me in 90 minutes how to truly discover the Scripture. As he told me “ Do not convolute your initial thought, but dig deeper.” 💡 💥 💡
He also laughed loudly when I told him he was a young Kalistos Ware... lol, his reply; “Thank you? I think.”
I keep in touch with him to this day.
