You explained the "two types of dragon quests" (character driven / party based) really well. Newcomers will most likely expect the usual story focused JRPG. Nice review!
I definitely understand that. But will people coming from other JRPGs get that? I don't make reviews to just the people who are super familiar with the series. I mean, what's the point? By then, most hardcore fans would've already made up their mind about it. It's important for me to illustrate that whole beginning part because the shock people will have is going to be massive and result in undeserved hatred. There's too much of that in the world and not enough understanding, which explains the approach that I had with this review. At the end of the day, my goal is to help people figure out if this game is something they want to play. And if I can put myself in their shoes from time to time, I don't think that's a terrible thing!
@@Orinmaxden that was my problem with dq3, i WANTED to explore, but the battle rate is so insane that by the time you’re at the next area, you’re overleveled, rich, and just makes the game not enjoyable only felt i could enjoy the game with padfoot but even then that’s the first half of the game not enjoyable :/

It looks nice, but I played this when I was 9 years old. A 60 dollar price tag is quite an ask considering other remakes have more content and usually in the 40 dollar range. Also you don’t need the best weapons and armor all the time.
There's actually content that I didn't cover because I didn't want to spoil it for people. In addition to 20+ hours' worth of side content, there's also a brand new story that gives a lot more backstory to your character. To your point about best weapons and armor, that's probably true with DQ3. However, not everyone is going to know that as we've been conditioned by recent JRPGs to always go for the best weapons and armor. I was merely illustrating to people that trying to play that way with this game wouldn't work, and that you need to think outside the box to solve the same problems that's easily overcome in other games.
Definitely not a game made for me, and that's okay! I'm glad to hear people who enjoy this type of game seem to be loving it! And am honestly somewhat relieved to not have yet another game to add to my absurdly long backlog 😆
Taking a peek at aggregate times at howlongtobeat, the combined main story playthroughs of both 1 and 2 equal to that of 3, which is probably why both games are bundled together, so it's closer to 60 for all 3 than 115.

I’ve seen a lot of mixed reactions about this online. DQ fans who are loyal to the original love that it’s gone, while the people who played the mini game on the GBC swear by it.
@BacklogBattle What bout the SFC Remake? That's the version that made me love Pachisi. Honestly being 100% real, the SFC & GBC versions make such needed improvements that both are FAR better than the NES version! The added Pachisi & Thief classes are just SO needed for gameplay reasons. The weapons you gain in Pachisi are incredibly helpful to get early & the Thief class basically fixes all of the problems with the Job system due to it's high Strength, Agility & MP growth. It becomes the absolute best class to transition a Wizard or Paladin into, not to mention all the rare items you can steal with them. I understand that many fans are nostalgic for the NES version, but it's due to the graphical & audio style, not the added content. If one could somehow add Pachisi & the Thief class to the NES version, it would be far better for it & none of the appeal would be lost. What I don't get is why did they include basically ALL of the other Remake additions, but leave Pachisi out? Why was that the one & only thing left on the cutting room floor?
@BacklogBattle As I was saying in my previous comment tho, this DOES have the added content from the prior Remakes. From what I can tell, the only thing that didn't make it in from the added content was Pachisi. It's a strange choice considering Pachisi is pretty well loved by the DQ community. It was completely optional too, so there's no real reason to dislike it. Not including it just feels lazy to me, specially w the $60 price tag.

@BacklogBattle hahaha yeah I really like that I may just end up buying it from them once I start playing it and I get a bit of a discount too anytime I buy from them but this is really good for me to be able to explore everything how I want to and really play the game how I want to because I know how notoriously difficult those games can be depending on the title and I've never been a big fan of grinding in jrpgs as much as I love the genre I try to avoid certain ones that have that aspect in them
Reimagined sounds like a marketing term, and seeing how marketing people have used remake and remaster wrong, I think it’s best we just stick to two terms as opposed to adding another one LOL
The game is way too easy even on Draconian Quest mode apparently being the "hard" mode. They shouldn't have made the change where party members get fully healed on level up, game is trivial now regardless of difficulty setting.
Looks like the general consensus online is to play 1-3 in order (or just play 3 alone cause it's the best one 😂). I'll probably wait to play 3 until 1+2 come out next year. But great review and glad you're feeling better, Alex!
DO NOT DO THAT! These remakes have been made to be played in release order, which also adds exclusive stories that tie the games in the correct order that they should be played! I DO NOT recommend playing them sequentially from 1-3!
Just wanted to add that the old recommended order is correct for the other versions; this REMAKE project is updating things to tie the stories of the games together better, which is WHY you should play DQ3 first if you are playing the remakes.
My only issue is that Im not very imaginative person 😅, i hate it on earth bound and smt games despite how good those games are i enjoyed played them .still i hate first person pov. Its not 1980s , i can see if its an indie dev but big Boy like square enix don't have any reason not to include the 3rd person pov to me its just lazy.
the original game had attacks like that as well in the first person view in dragon quest 3 so it makes sense that they would keep that in the remake as well.

Lots of dAMage and wont die ever?! SIGN ME UP BABY!! RENTING FROM GAMEFLY!
That Dracky Quest got you eh?
@BacklogBattle hahaha yeah I really like that I may just end up buying it from them once I start playing it and I get a bit of a discount too anytime I buy from them but this is really good for me to be able to explore everything how I want to and really play the game how I want to because I know how notoriously difficult those games can be depending on the title and I've never been a big fan of grinding in jrpgs as much as I love the genre I try to avoid certain ones that have that aspect in them
Romancing saga is more like a reimagined
Reimagined sounds like a marketing term, and seeing how marketing people have used remake and remaster wrong, I think it’s best we just stick to two terms as opposed to adding another one LOL
The game is way too easy even on Draconian Quest mode apparently being the "hard" mode. They shouldn't have made the change where party members get fully healed on level up, game is trivial now regardless of difficulty setting.
Thanks for your assessment! Always happy to read other people’s experiences other than my own!
I hate this trend with jrpgs! I swear, Japanese devs are making their games too frickin easy and ruining their games in the process.
