- Before Final Fantasy, the popularity of role-playing games in Japan was dictated by one franchise - Dragon Quest. The long-running turn-based RPG rose to such heights that it could sometimes disrupt society, and perhaps the most beloved title of that era is Dragon Quest 3: The Seeds of Salvation.
Over 26 years after it launched, the classic is back with Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. Featuring gorgeous visuals combining the best of 2D sprite work with detailed 3D environments, it follows Erdrick as they embark on a journey to take down the Archfiend Baramos. While the quality of life features and presentation are top-notch, much of the game's strengths lay in the original's foundations.
Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake doesn't try to overshadow or significantly alter that vision, instead accentuating it for a contemporary audience. The result is the best representation of the classic and a worthwhile RPG to get lost in.
This might be my most hyped game for 2024. Grabbing it today!
Not Persona 3? I couldn't think of any other JRPG this year 😅but I'm hyped for this too I haven't played the original

I think it looks really cool, I like the HD-2D style. Just wish it was a bit less expensive though

The game DOES give a way to be able to filter out low level enemy fights. The hero gains a spell mid way through called 'Holy Protection' that wards off encounters against lower level enemies and stops them attacking you.
30-40 is the sweet spot on this

The price tag is what stopped me from buying this. Its over 7000 yen here in Japan, which is the equivalent to 70$ for us. I was expecting it to be about half of that price lol. If I find it used for cheaper, or it goes on sale, I might get it... but it just seems way too much at the moment.

Might have to check this out. Finished 11, Echos of elusive age not long ago. My favorite DQ ever was 9 for the DS. Maybe one day they’ll remaster it for current consoles
Guys I know that the price tag seems a bit much but if you get 40-50h gametime out of this then you paid 1.50$ per hour for Activity that is hopefully enjoyable for you. Of course if you think you will have more fun with a different game them spend your money on somthing else. Pls do not say that this game is not worth the money because it is a remake because it is. Has there ever been a much larger game for the same price? Yes there have been. Has there ever been a game that has been running like shit for the same price? Yes there has been. What I am trying to say is that yes it is more on the expensive side but it does not make sense to compare between games and how long they can entertain you or how great the graphics look. We have a finished product that looks, runs and plays well. The rest is up to you to decide.

Yes. The only two DQ games I might avoid as a newcomer would be 2 and 7. DQ7 is very good, just incredibly long, even by today's standards.
Yes, you can start just about anywhere tbh. For the sake of having the luxury of modern QoL features though, I'd recommend either this or DQ11 S.
This is actually a great game to start with. This game is the quintessential DQ experience.
You can really start with any DQ game. I highly reccommend checking out 8 and 11 if you get the chance too!
I started the series last year with fourth game. Some games are connected but you can play them in any order.

DQ 5 is definitely my favorite of the series. DQ 3 follows in 2nd place.
@@garfieldodie3106 DQ3 is and always will be my pick for greatest DQ game, simply because it completely revolutionized JRPG's in general.
But DQ5 is a very close 2nd for me, and easily the best in the series in terms of the actual story & plot.
I would absolute LOVE for a full-on modern HD remake of DQ9 as well... add in even more iconic & classic equipment, more monsters instead of just re-colours/pallet swaps.
Bring back all the on-line features!! I loved the grotto dungeon map system, and I'd managed to score a couple of the most famous maps back in the DS days, including the famous Kawasaki Locker map from organised tag meet-ups ;-)
Add in new & bigger post-game bonus dungeon would be so cool!
More vocations, and fix the quest requirements to unlock some of them please... (gods Armamentalist & Luminary were nightmares to unlock back in the day!)
Bring back the online daily store.
I originally sunk something crazy like 500+ hrs into DQ9 back in the DS days over the course of about 3-4 years. I don't regret a single minute of it either!
I hate random encounters, also there are no fight animations - BIG pass. Nostalgia is fine ... but for what price?
Once Switch 2 drops, and in a couple of years all prices on Switch games halve or better, I'll start picking up titles like this galore. For a physical copy collector like me, the Switch is going to be a dream handheld to hunt for in the years to come.
I know this message is old but... that ain't always the case.. especially if a game ends up being rare. Need to keep a tab on which games are going to end up becoming rare or had limited print runs.

My only issue is that Im not very imaginative person , i hate it on earth bound and smt games despite how good those games are i enjoyed played them .still i hate first person pov. Its not 1980s , i can see if its an indie dev but big Boy like square enix don't have any reason not to include the 3rd person pov to me its just lazy.
I really wish they implemented the combat system from Octopath Traveler. The first person combat is my only negative.

Don't understand people say Octopath looks better than this. DQ 3 remake looks vastly superior than that game.

The price of this game is fucking nuts. Should be 40 bucks - at MOST 50 bucks. I swear they're pricing like this to counter sales-prices which is inevitable these days.
Why? This is a full on remake. They have to redo all of the art assets. That takes a long time and money.
@@TehParismio Lets put it this way - the majority of AA and AAA games are released at this price today. These games are built from scratch: new writing, new characters, new animations, new music composed, full 3d renders, voice acting etc. This game is a REMAKE - it doesn't need new writing apart from perhaps some edits, it doesn't need brand new music (similar to writing, maybe some tweaks), it doesn't have voice acting (at least, as far as I can tell), it included new sprites but then decided not to include full animations in combat, and it's environments are hardly the same as a full 3d render. So what part of the effort demands the full price that it is asking - apart from milking nostalgia? These jap publishers (particularly Capcom and SqEnix, Bandai, and Nintendo) are totally nuts.
Id rather they make a new DQ game in the old style of DQ 3 verse just redoing a game that already exists. Replaying games you already played gets a bit old even if it has a new coat of paint

Brother 60 dollars is probably the cheapest youll see a physical copy in the west. Just look up the DS remakes.

I want to get this, and while I realize it’s a remake built from the ground up, $60 still feels a bit much. I would for sure do $40 so I might wait to see if there’s any sales for the holidays

I'm kinda tired of hd2d style but Dragon Quest 1-3 are foundational pillars of rpgs and deserve these high quality remakes
Yeah. I enjoyed the heck out of Octopath traveller and I am Setsuna but by the time Octopath 2 rolled around I was still hyped but couldn't enjoy it as much as the first. I realized the HD 2D fatigue was sadly setting in😢
