One tip I would add to this for songmaking with the Blackbox, to me it makes sense to break each instrument/part into their own sequences, rather than building up redundant sequences with one new part added each time. Then you'd have the benefit of muting and soloing each multiple variations - drums, bass, chords, etc. - which can be sequenced in song mode. With 16 sequences at your disposal you could have 4 different drum rhythms, 4 chord progressions, 4 bass lines, and 4 whatever else you want, and then be able to freely mix them together as you please
When i was into woodworking I used to read a lot of articles by a guy called Marty Schwartz and he used to review lots of cool and interesting tools, so much so that a group was started called "wives against Schwartz" because the guys that were reading him ended up buying everything that he recommended and reviews because he made them look so cool, I have a feeling that at some point there will be a "wives against Ricky" group starting some day soon!

I have their Series 1 & 2 modules in my rig and really love the power and versatility of what they do. With the ability to load different firmwares on the modules based on what you need, it's a pretty slick thing.

Haven't even used mine to make a track yet, Ive just been using it as a supreme substitute to my SP404sx... Im about 90% sure it will be a permanent substitute moving forward.. I know that might break ur heart lol. but it just offers so much more than the SP or any compact sampler at the moment just from its capabilities to launch full tracks, stems and or loops.. with "ableton-style" tempo locked timestretc-ing with pitch control.. not to mention the USB host that essentially allows u to use whatever controller u want to compliment the touch screen.. bascially, i love this thing and its worth every dollar!

Another nice little box. Once my current project is done I will be looking for a more traditional chromatic sampler and there are a lot of little boxes out there. This is a brave new world I have returned to.

How do u feel about pairing this with a circuit acting as a controller for inputing notes in step mode and real time with velocity ? I love my setup already.. i got synthesis and sequencing going nice and want to implement now a dedicated sampling device with features that this blackbox perfectly covers . Peace

This question maybe like trying to compare apples to oranges, but is it anything like Octatrack’s stretch capabilities? Could I use it like launching long sample/song clips on Ableton or is it limited to how long a sample can be to time stretch clean?

I dig the form factor and essential features of this machine! What’s your take on this VS the MPC Live? I’m mostly a linear recording guy with a taste for experimentation, and do enjoy using samples and loops from time to time.
Here’s my hang up at the moment man, I’m thinking this black box and a digitakt might be a more fun and creative combo rather than just a mpc live, cost being similar as well.
How’s the included drum sounds BTW? A great video would be showing the included sounds that the black box ships with.

Looks really fun to get grooves started for full blown tracks. I know its a different setup, but how would it compare workflow wise with the Octatrack and the Pyramid?
Its really hard to compare to octatrack as its sequencer is far superior to blackbox. and the same applies for pyramid(which on the otherhand does not have sampling capability at all), octa also can be effect unit / mixer. But if you already have a good sequencer as studio brain and want a sampler, this looks as pretty good choice. I am actually going to ditch octatrack and buy this instead. in terms of I/O this beats both MKI & MKII Octatracks and i can imagine more functionlity will come, but in my honest opinion seqencing is not main feature of this box, its a sampling and in that direction there is not replacement for that if you take size I/O count and features. looks really great for gigs.

How long can 1 of the 16 samples be? Can I also use it to trigger ambient samples during live shows?... this machine seems too good to be real, can I resample a sample meaning like a looper ? Hi Ricky, Once again you pull off what I would have to say some amazing things. You are one talented individual. Question for you, I would like to know what would be the difference between this unit and a Roland 404sx or a MPC Live? Reason being is that I already have the MPC and was thinking of get the 404 and this as well to add to my collection.

Is this thing a good addition to my studio if I already have the Digitakt, both Model series, am SP404A, and a Novation Circuit? I’m intrigued by its small form factor and the touch screen.
Honestly? No. I mean, the form factor is nice if you can travel, but having not travelled in the last year, I think the small form makes it hard to use in a studio. Maybe with an external midi controller? But yea...I've had it since June, produced an album on it, and it's nice! But if you already have other samplers, it's not _that_ special that I'd say you really need it

The Black Box just had a great update as of today (link below). Some basic granular functionality has been added as well as some workflow improvements. Oh, and I also took your advice on the Omars power bank. Works really well.

Used even? I just received a Electribe Sampler. I was thinking about switching to this. I was wondering what I may lose or gain if I go with the BlackBox. I don’t even know the price as I just stumbled upon this great demo. Any feedback would be appreciated. How manny types of waveforms or oscillators does it have and how much fx does it have in contrast. I will begin research,.. but your opinion is valued. I’m thinking smaller more powerful to sit on top of my Access Virus KC synth to open up space for my Arturia microfreak or micro brute.
