I have an eight year old Cavapoo that loves your videos and comes running when he hears the music. He's been on a raw diet since he was a year old and people don't believe he is not a puppy 😊. VERY healthy and at a good weight.
We love Olive. Another reason why we got our cavapoo and ours is so picky with food too. She's not even 2 yet. Thanks for sharing as we may need to go to the raw food journey in the future too!
I’m so sorry that y’all had to go through this. I’ve been watching for a long time, never in a million years did I think Olive was under weight! I am so happy she likes her food now. Thanks for being proactive parents ❤!! Keep up the great work 👍
You guys are awesome pet people. You stayed with it until you found something your dog likes and in the process found something that can add years to your dogs life. Cuddles
I fed our German shepherd Darwin’s raw food too for 2 years until I started making it myself (shipping was costly to California from WA). Our dog loves the food, her long haired coat was amazing, and her poop was much improved (less stink and just less!) thanks for the video, glad your pup is doing so much better
thank you so much! i'm sure she'd appreciate hearing that. It's amazing to see her eating so well now, definitely not something we'd expected 3 years ago..😊💚
Yay Olive! I know the struggle of a Cavapoo not eating.. my girl has inflammatory bowel disease and would go on food strikes. We thought it was her being picky.. but her tummy just hurt! Now that she’s on the right medications, she gets a home cooked diet formulated by vet nutritionists at a university near us. Olive is lucky to have you guys as her puppy parents!
Wow! Poor sweet Olive! What a great video, with good information! I had a schnauzer/terrier mix and she was pretty picky too! I ended up cooking her meals with turkey, chicken, or beef, vegetables, and rice. I added her supplements to that. You guys are good pawrents and took the time to figure it out. She’s such a sweet girl! 😊🩷🐶🤗🫶🏾
I have an almost 7 year old Cavapoo named Louis. He just like Olive, around three months old stopped eating kibble and my husband and I tried about every brand of kibble, wet food, and delivery services but Louis didn’t like any of them. The Farmer’s Dog he stopped liking after about two months and then it was back to trying to find something for him to eat. All this, while I was cooking for him so he could eat something. I also fed him raw (still do) but I find it hard to handle all that raw meat (I’m vegetarian), but I’ll do anything for him to eat. I then came across Darwin’s but unfortunately they don’t deliver to my state, so I’m doing a combination of raw and cooked food for him.
My dog is picky too, I make her food weekly, one week it’s beef , another it’s chicken, variety is her thing. Always cook with veggies and rice with coconut oil. She’s loving it so far , but if she stop eating it, I will go this raw food route
Isn’t it crazy that only do we realize how bad kibble is, is when there is an issue with our pups and we research things to help them? I’m glad Olive is thriving 🎉
Praise The Lord. Thank You Lord for giving our Precious Olive a pair of pawrents who truly love her and genuinely care for her and would steadfastly and tirelessly look after her well being! 👏👏👏💪💪💪👍👍👍
I also feed raw. I use Dr. Harvey’s base mixes, and add my own protein and healthy oil. I utilize the markdown meat section at the supermarket to offset the cost of the base mixes. I’ve considered ordering some Darwin’s on their introductory pricing.
Kibble isn't food, Olive was smart to turn her snout up at it. Good on your for considering all the possibilities, I'm sure that was a lot of work and very time consuming. But what you get in return is a very happy and healthy Olive, who will live longer and be healthier the whole time.. Not sure where you live that your vet was good with raw food? Where I am In the US, such vets exist, but they're still rare.
Hi and thanks for the comment! It took a lot of effort (brands we tried mentioned at 1:18), but seeing her happy and *healthy* is so worth it. We're in the US as well and our vet wasn't on board(I thought it was just us! interesting to hear that this is common. I wonder why that is..🤔). She gave us the skeptical eye and asked why we were feeding her raw, etc. After my long explanation she just advised us to be cautious with handling the raw meat.🙄😅
Vets are thought that kibble is the food for dogs 😢. I have 2 poodle/shih Tzu and one of them got supper sick 2 yrs ago and the vet just wanted to prescribe Prednisone and that's it. I went to a holistic vet and was introduced to raw meat and raw goat milk from the brand pet solutions. Both dogs are super healthy and no Prednisone after 3 months.
@@OliveJoa Vet schools are funded by pharma and the dog "food" industry. Like medical doctors, vets don't learn nutrition. They learn how to dispense medication and "vaccines." Food is the first option to health and healing. I feed my pit raw, no carbs at all, a little bit of fermented veggies and homemade bone broth. She gets no "vaccines" or meds of any kind, except for whatever the shelter gave her. Her coat is so shiny. She gets compliments on it everyday. Her breath has no smell. It's fresh. All my friend's dogs have smelly breath. Her poop doesn't stink and she makes less of it. I take her off leash hiking in the woods or to the beach everyday.
@@mz1860 THIS! It only takes common sense to eradicate all food safety concerns, something we do for ourselves every...single...day already. The dogs (and any other carnivorous pet) has the same requirements.
I tried the raw diet for my pups but it didn’t work for them. Now I just put ground turkey or chicken, frozen peas/sweet potatoes & brown rice in a crock pot on high for 4 hours. They devour it!
My cavapoo is 14 lbs, 8 and half years old. Ever since he was a puppy he had problem eating kibble. And constant diarrhea and vomiting. He was on acana. Now he’s been on home cooked meal for years. No health issue. He’s a picky eater, we tried raw, it didn’t work for us. He was eating ok but then constant diarrhea. We find eating cooked warm meal is the best for his tummy. I add blueberries and he gets lots of varieties.
How do you deal with the raw food for long fur dogs? We have a schnauzer and feed him raw sometimes, but the quail egg and raw ingredients stick on his beard. I have to give him a bath right after as the only solution to keep him clean and bacteria free for kisses.
Raw food is absolutly the best for pets. Most kibble for dogs is terrible. FYI raw chicken bone and steak bones are better than kibble. Cooked food is not good for dogs either. Do wild dogs cook their food before eating it?
That's what I try to convey to my friends with dogs but it doesn't register. They cook lean turkey, rice and potatoes and think it's doing their dog good. Mind you their dogs are all fat. Better than kibble I suppose. But they freak when I say I feed my dog a quartet of raw chicken, with the bones and raw meat.
So I’m new to watching this, but why is feeding a dog raw meat controversial? It’s a dog, a meat eater, not some herbivore, a meat eater. they thrive on raw or cooked meat. Just like a cat, they are carnivores, they eat meat. I feed my cats raw hamburger, chicken, fish, or eggs all the time. Helps their digestive system and more healthy for them. Yah you did good feeding the dog raw food.
My cavapoo got allergies and get hypoalergic food but not like it at all. He usually eat from my hand and sometimes after catching ball but most time protesting 🤦
When I adopted a long-haired chihuahua at 9 months old, the previous owner told me he was a very picky eater. Boy, he sure was and wouldn’t eat the kibbles provided by previous owners. After I switched to raw food, his appetite increased tremendously. Now at 3 years old, he’s an eating machine and I have to watch him not to steal food from other dogs. It was such a marvelous change from the disinterested eater to a foodie now.
For hundreds of years, people fed their dogs the parts of the animal that people didn't like--raw brain, organ meat, sinew, leftover bones. Dogs are carnivores. They shouldn't be eating carrots or green beans or lentils or barley. Does a wolf eat veggies or go out into a field to much on barley? Nope. Maybe fruit, like berries that grow in the wild. I've been feeding my dog a raw diet since we got her and she loves it. Then again, she will eat anything. There is a reason why dog lifespans are going down; we've been feeding them processed foods, which are horrible for dogs and for humans. You've made the right decision.
The first Dog food was left overs, scraps, you know the preached forbidden fruit. My journey with my dogs is very much like yours. Now and forever-more raw/gently cooked. honestly, picky eating is more a behavioural issue than anything else. the dog trains you to keep rotating her food. sadly, my picky dog cant do variety because he has a sensitive gut, so unfortunately he’s stuck with prescription kibble. if he doesnt eat, we take it away, and by the next meal, he’s hungry enough to eat it like it’s a wagyu meat.

I love Olive. Glad she’s doing well on Darwin’s. Question: Did you guys ever try giving her Pepcid or something similar? I wonder if she may have had acid reflux or nausea when eating certain foods.
I have been feeding Raw to my dogs and cats for over 20 years. I definitely recommend it. I’m glad that you’ve decided to feed Raw to your dog. One thing I will say, though, don’t just feed one brand. They need variety. Darwin is a good food so feed that, feed all their different proteins that they have, but also Feed other brands too. You should have at least three or four different brands. You don’t have to get super detailed about it. Feed Darwin for a week or so and then throw in another brand for a week or so etc. etc. Because even the chicken blend from one brand is going to be different than the chicken blend from another brand. Variety is key. Different sources, different proteins, etc. Avoid anything with grain or pasta or legumes.
Have you tried raw goat milk and tripe? They’re great for adding on some weight, too. I love the raw diet for dogs and cats but I really believe you have to find what works best for your pet🙌🏽

Should I say..may be..just may be.. the picky eaters would eat their food which they once ate if it could be on rotation (at least a week or two). Even us as humans dont like even our favourite food to be served day and night every single day of the month/s right..
Our friend had a litter of Rottweiler puppies not too long ago, he was feeding them raw beef and they loved it... we have some videos of Luna's family on our channel.
And you don’t let your dog be picky. You’re feeding Darwin and that’s great. But you need to get some other brands in there too. You can mix the two different brands together or you can just put the new one down. Give her 15 minutes to eat and what she doesn’t eat you put away till next meal time. A day or two of that she’ll eat the food. Sometimes we teach our dogs to be picky and it’s not good for them or us. So be strong. Your dog will not starve herself to death. I guarantee it.
Why would you think that feeding a dog the food she is meant to eat is strange? Would you think that feeding a child ready meals, takeaway, snacks, or a home cooked fresh meal is better? Cammie is 8 ..... Her new vet initially guessed her age at 2. She is fed raw diet ..... Steak, venison, salmon, with the occasional but if cooked chicken or egg.
blows my mind that ppl think feeding dogs processed garbage over whole foods is better lmao. edit* it's one thing if you cant afford a raw diet for your dogs but if you can but don't bc you think it's bad for them then you really are lost.
Well, there are parents of humans that think feeding their children pop tarts and cereals is better than giving them whole fruits. Marketing is powerful.... 🤷
Consider this:
Feeding raw food is more expensive
But less expensive than treating a sick dog

I did a tally up of my dog and cat's home food (which is raw) vs commercial;
Grain smoosh in a tin (meat by products types of dog food) and my food is on par with those prices, something like Ziwi Peak which somewhat matches more closely to the ingredients I use and all of a sudden I'm 1/3 the price.
The price of raw dog food is in the name of the label only, food for thought if you pardon the pun.
I have a cavapoo as well and she downright refuses to touch commercial.
No one should eat processed food. My Dogo and I eat the same meat. His is mainly boiled, sometimes raw.
I hope you're getting your veggies and fruits in too, you're a primate. 😅
Try prepared food like The Farmer’s Dog. Switched from kibble because our dog would barely eat and now since switching to wet food she eats it all up.
That’s fantastic! Your dog is smart! She just wanted real food. The naturally appropriate food for dogs.
My dog is the same [cavapoo] he doesnt want eat his food but want human food...NOW its 1,85kg to heavy 🤦
Would it be possible to make the same thing for Olive that you found with Darwin? Now that you know what her preference is.
Hi I have a picky eater too and we switched to homemade 3 months ago and everything changed. Now she loves eating ❤ 한국분인가봐요 반가워요 😊
home made what? can you give ideas
Hey :) Olive is super cute!! Since she loves the cooked chicken, would it be an option for you to cook her main food yourself?

when i start raw feeding my dog is getting a bit underweight
Arethere no risks for parasites?
Depends
No disrespect intended but why would you feed a dog - a carnivore- fruits & veggies???
does she like sardines??? ive never met a dog who doesn't like sardines x
What age can you start feeding raw? I’m getting a puppy soon and would like to feed raw.
No pet should eat processed food for every meal. None. Maybe occasionally, like once a month, but never all the time. Pets need real food. Good job.
My dog is the same she only wants raw food
My vet say raw food alone also no good.
Not enough nutrition
Feed her once a day.
