    In Snowman's defense of Persona 5, 12 hours is a decent amount of time to spend on a game, if you really don't like it. I still remember when Final Fantasy 13 came out, EVERYONE said "Oh, it gets good 30 hours in."
    It really doesn't, but I think enough people thought that it did to continue with the collective lie.
    Anyway, while I really like the game myself, I wouldn't want to play something I didn't like any longer than 12 hours. Of course, after that point you need to be able to articulate your argument for WHY you didn't like it, without simply falling back on "In my opinion, it's a bad game." Persona 5 DOES have its issues, and they can be called out, if you know how to properly make your case. It doesn't mean other people have to agree with you, but it also doesn't mean you get to be lazy if you're engaging in conversation.
    (Not that I'm saying Snowman was lazy, I'm just stating that if you're going to talk about something contentious, be prepared to make good arguments that properly state your case.)

      I gave up on FF13 at Hope's house. I can say why I didn't like it as an FF game. It's mostly subjective, but I'm not versed enough to explain any objective issues I have with it.

    • @Deadsnake989
      @Deadsnake989 5 років тому +1

      I'm the kind of person who will spend literal thousands of hours playing a single game. Right now I have 2.2k hours in Warframe, 1.3 recorded on Skyrim (there's a lot of time Steam didn't record me playing it), 1.1k hours on Grim Dawn (again there probably around 300 unrecorded hours). That said, I don't care if it's the best game ever made after you give it 12 hours. If a game doesn't catch me in the first 6 or so hours, I think it's a badly designed game and I wont continue playing it.
      Warframe was almost like that for me. I was about 4 hours in and had no idea what to do. I was having fun but felt like what I was doing was pointless. Until a veteran player joined me and gave me a little direction.

    • @Adorni
      @Adorni 5 років тому +2

      @@Deadsnake989 Yeah, exactly. It's going to be different for everyone as well... I mean there are weirdos who like Final Fantasy 13, for some reason :P But If you've played a game collectively for about half a day and you're not feeling it, then you're _probably_ not going to suddenly change your if you keep playing for those other 12 hours.
      Like I said, I like Persona 5, but Snowman's arguments about feeling like the game's stakes dropped like a rock after beating Kamoshida aren't entirely without merit, because I feel like that is kind of subjective. I WOULD argue that it's an example of good pacing, because Kamoshida's boss fight is the climax of his story-arc, and you need to have the falling action coming up after that before you start the cycle over again. But that's an entirely different subject, I think.

    • @jerm70
      @jerm70 5 років тому

      Its sort of like anime.
      There is some filler before the next plot point so that the plot doesn't get too stale and if anything else Persona 5 is the one the best jrpgs when it comes to wanting a brisk pace.
      The only brisker paced jrpg that comes to mind at the moment is Legend of Heroes : Trails of Cold Steel.

    • @Deadsnake989
      @Deadsnake989 5 років тому +2

      I can't speak on Persona 5, since I've never played any of those games. Although I can say, as someone who's not a big fan of anime, I like P5's art style. But the idea of having peaks and valleys in game's isn't something I'm against. Spectacle creep is something I think is an issue in narrative media. You don't always have to have a story about the one true hero, defeater of all foes, protector of the universe doing battle against the latest greatest threat to all life. Basically as much as I like DBZ, I'm throwing it under the bus right now lol. Sometimes it's nice to have a bit of winding down between spectacles.
      I told this story recently on another video. I've been DMing for table top games, mostly D&D for a group of friends for over 10 years now. This was a session from a few weeks ago. The week prior the session ended with a party character dying, the death wasn't necessary but the player wanted to do it because he felt a heroic sacrifice would be in his character. Also even though he personally knew the group was safe, his character wouldn't have known that for sure, so it did kinda make sense. So after that session I had planned out a nice easy session for them to unwind after that and build supplies/networking for further missions. It didn't work out that way because my players are absolutely paranoid and insane, so they ended up starting a gang war. But the intention WAS for them to have an easy winding down session that week lol.
