I bought this guitar with my own money:).
Here's my review of Ibanez Gio GRX70QA!
I think that this axe is the most versatile electric guitar under $200! And also my favorite electric guitar for beginners under $200...
Versatile, comfortable to play, and the value for money is great! But of course, it has some cons...
I used Roland Micro Cube GX-amp for sound samples, you can check its latest price on Amazon here: amzn.to/3r32tuk

There are zillion types of GIO. Two pickups. Three pickups. Lots of different pickups and pickup combinations. Humbuckers come with a coil split, nowadays. Does your GIO offer that? Would you want that? I tell you, single coil mode is a nice extra. When you are good at soldering, you can modify the humbuckers yourself, but it is sketchy, pickup wire is extremely thin, and often fixed in epoxy, so you need to be lucky and very careful. The bridge can be floating, it can be a fixed bridge. Before you buy a GIO, be sure what GIO you really want. Go to a shop and PLAY some of them. And you can always buy two famous brand pickups, when your band needs a different sound. But adding a third pickup is a bit more complicated. Router, making that third cavity. And you need a 5-way switch. Can be done, but it means more work. So if you want three pickups, do not buy a two pickup guitar. Do you see?
I got a 2009 Spring edition (Howling To The Moon) with a mother of pearl moon inlay. And the 6 tuners are at the "wrong" side of the headstock, but it is not a leftie guitar. Very weird one. But okay, a GIO is a great guitar for the money.

Excellent video. Most reviewers forget to let us hear the clean sounds. Not everyone is interested in playing metal although I love several songs in that genre. I will get this guitar left handed in blue. I hope the action on it is low and also the weight.

That Ibanez GRG131 is an interesting guitar for sure...my original plan was to get Ibanez GRG121DX-WNF into my hands at some point, because it has different pickups from the GRX70QA, that's why it has been more interesting option for me.
GRGR131EX has the same Infinity buckers(of course without the middle single coil), but there might still be enough other differences to keep things interesting, but let's see...
but thanks for your suggestions, I'll keep those in my mind😎👌

I'm in a limbo right now. The GRX70 was always my dream guitar, but now there's another contestant on my list.
Have you by any chance ever tried the GRG121DX? If so, which one would you pick?
I love the way both sound, and it doesn't seem like that GRG's pickups are actually THAT bad as people say. Also, it's slightly cheaper here in my country.
But I'm concerned about the action height of the GRG compared to the GRX70. I've seen a couple reviews claiming it had to be lowered, and it also had some buzzing, etc etc etc.
I love the matte design of the GRG, but I've been investigating non-stop and I can't pick any of them yet.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    • @guitaristnextdoor8430
      @guitaristnextdoor8430  2 роки тому +2

Hi! Action is a matter of setup. Sometimes music stores do a setup for the guitar, and sometimes guitars come with a factory setup. So basically you can't never be sure what kind of action you get. Never. So I wouldn't make a choice based on that. And adjusting the action is super easy. If I can do it, so can you.😊👍
Also, frett buzz can happen with any cheap guitar, so I wouldn't make a choice based on that either. But I recommend you buy the guitar from a place that allows you to return it for a full refund if the guitar is not a good fit.
I haven't tested the GRG121DX, but I have done a ton of research about it. It's a great cheap guitar. Fits metal better than GRX, but GRX is more versatile. 😎
      Thanks for commenting!😊👍

What are the differences between ibanez grg170dx, ibanez gsa60bs, ibanez grx70qa models? Comfort is important to me. Also, do you think the fender champion 20 amp is suitable for new guitarists?
I also like your channel very much. Thanks for the useful video.

    • @guitaristnextdoor8430
      @guitaristnextdoor8430  3 роки тому +4

thank you for commenting and compliments😊👍
170DX has a different-looking bridge(probably a bit higher quality), 24 frets and the neck shape is slightly different(don't exactly know how).
gsa60bs has HSS pickup configuration(brighter tones with neck pickups), and mahogany body(slightly warmer tones)
this grx70qa has the same pickups as 170DX, has a different bridge, and has a poplar body with a quilted maple top(quilted maple top and might add some brightness into your tone)
I only have played the grx70qa so can't say which one is most comfortable, but usually, the most expensive one is the most comfortable when it comes to finish, and how smooth the fret and fretboard edges are. but the overall feel and neck shape are a whole different thing.
but at least for me, Ibanez axes have always been really easy to play
fender champion 20 is a great beginner amp! but if you want to play metal, I would try something different, maybe Fender Mustang LT25 or Boss Katana 50 MKii😎👌

Right out of the gate, I would look into these 3:
      1. If you want floyd rose: Ibanez Genesis Collection RG550 - great for fast playing
      2. Ibanez Standard SEW761CW - I really like the pickups that come with this, tone zone humbucker is really well balanced pup that's not too hot-
      3. Ibanez RG421HPAH - this guitar is really stunning and has similiar playability to option 2. But peoples opinions about the pickups vary a lot, maybe you like those, maybe you don't. I think that those are solid, but not my top choices when it comes to pickups.

Is the "action" average to low? I can't tell string distance from frets. Speaking of frets.....are the edges fairly smooth and not ready to cut into your fingers? : )

the action was low in this my copy!
frets were quite sharp, no cuts, but rough still. I smoothened fret edges with sandpaper. but before this it's important to cover the fretboard (with tape for example). but as I mentioned in the video, I researched user reviews and didn't remember finding any other complaints about sharp fret edges, so this issue maybe bothers only a few of these GIO's😎

yes, I have seen it, but I prefer the Ibanez for the rocker aspect, for the fact that it is better for solos (which I learn) and for being very good for rock and metal, among my favorite genres. But I wanted to know if it was good for these genres too, with sounds a little cleaner, pure and high. I don't know, for example I would really like to learn Elvis' Devil in Disguise with his solo, or Still Got the Blues by Gary Moore, Sh Boom by The Chords, Paradise City, All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix, Sultans of the swing etc. ... In order to try out many styles to find mine as well or change my studies a bit along the way, as well as rock and metal from Nirvana, AcDc, etc ... And in your opinion, if this guitar was fine, what could be a good amplifier on the 100/200, which also affects a lot? Thanks for your attention and answers🥰

first, I have not played rg350dxz, and I'm not made research about it a lot either. but I can still give you my opinion...😊
depends on the use, if I were a complete beginner, this GRX would be a better option for sure in most situations. But right now, I always go for the best guitar I can afford, if I could afford RG350dxz, I would go for that one, especially if I needed Floyd rose...and the wizard neck of it is surely good for my small hands👌 tho this GRX has a really good neck for me too...
it's a bit hard comparison because at least where I live (Finland) the rg350dx is around $300 more expensive, but I believe that it's a better guitar, but don't know from the top of my head how it compares to other guitars on that price range. I've literally spent this year studying and testing guitars at under $200 and $300 price ranges😎 maybe next year I move to more expensive stuff😂😅

This Ibanez is my favorite beginner guitar with the Yamaha Pacifica 012 (I have videos about that one too)
Both are really versatile guitars. Ibanez is better with metal.
I recommend that you check this article of mine and the videos on that article: guitaristnextdoor.com/best-electric-guitar-under-200/

In your opinion, out of these four, what would be the best choice for versatility?
    Ibanez GIO GRX70QA
    Or
    Ibanez grg 170 dx
    Or
Ibanez grg 121 dx (this one has two humbuckers, so obviously not great for versatility but still would like to know your opinion)
    Or
    Ibanez SA 260

      thanks for commenting!😊👌
Ibanez SA 260 is the best guitar IMO, but it's not the best for metal. I would always prefer guitar with 2 humbuckers for metal.
For ultimate versatility I would choose GRX 70QA or GRG 170DX. 😎 Both have the same pickups, so no big differences on tones. These 2 have different bridges, GRG170 has 24 frets and a flatter fretboard. So with 2 more frets, it adds a bit more possibilities
GRG 121DX is a metal guitar and a great one for sure👌 but these other 3 beat it on overall versatility.

      Here's the list I made :
I know they're too different but what'd you think would be the best choice if you were buying your first guitar shifting from classical guitar?
      Epiphone LP VE
      Epiphone LP Studio lt
      Fender Squier Affinity Strat (HSS)
      **Ibanez GIO GRX70QA**
      IBANEZ GRG 121 DX (hh)
      Ibanez grg 170 dx (hsh)
      Ibanez gsa 60 (??)

      Ibanez SA 260 (30K)
      Yamaha rgx121z (??)

    • @guitaristnextdoor8430
      @guitaristnextdoor8430  3 роки тому +1

@Curiosity Rover I would probably choose one of those Ibanez options, those are my favorites for ultimate versatility. Affinity Strat HSS gives you some nice bright single-coil tones that the Ibanez's don't. Pacifica 112J feels a bit more expensive than most of those Ibanez'es and offers more single-coil tones. But overall, Ibanez guitars are my fav options😊😎
