- Well... My Ol' Trailer needed some love, so I decided to give it a good overhauling. It was a ton of work and not a ton to show for it but it needed to be done.

I completely stripped my 5x8 snowbear last spring. Since it's an all steel trailer it was a full month process while at work and sourcing parts lol. I installed the e-track wheel chocks and what a game changer for loading and unloading, so much easier. Keep up the good work, maybe someday I'll ride NB more than up Campbellton.
Hey ! Oh wow that sounds like a job and a half ! haha I have those e-track things too, I just need to install them. Cheers man !
Good for another ten years. Have fun :)
haha I hope so !
You lit a fire under my ass, went and purchased new tires and re-packed my bearings tonight. Great video, Cheers!
hahaha Awesome ! good job man !
thank you, informative video. Great job! bonne journée!
thanks a lot man ! Merci !
Good one. Gotta keep up on that maintenance!
Yes sir ! Super important !
Put a fair amount of grease in the palm of your hand, then push the backside of the bearing into it. It'll push the grease. Into the bearing itself. Thus it will pack the bearing.
yep thats a good technique, I didn't show it all b/c I was trying to keep the video shorter... really I should have did a video on each step....
@@Maritimer you always have good videos, no matter how long they are. Don't have to worry about making them short. When are you going to invite us up so we could go riding? lol
I enjoy your videos
thanks Tim !
Always good to keep your trailer in shape.
I know from working on trailers here that the brown wire for running lights don't have anything to do with brake lights. It is the signal lights that are used for the brakes. They are brighter.
Keep on making great videos.
Good informative video, thanks for posting it. My trailer needs a lot of the same maintenance, maybe it will spur me on to get at it. I think Wendell needs another camping trip, wish I had that kind of energy.
Hey man ! yeah I kept putting it off and it was too the point I was worried I was going to have an issue while towing the ATV so I figured I better get my ass in gear and do some maintenance. I'm no mechanic but I hope the video helps some people.
@@Maritimer Yup, I've got to do the same with my trailer before it leaves me on the side of the road. Anyway, love your videos of southern NB and NS atv trails. If you ever up my way in Fredericton, look me up. I like the trails on the Nashwaak and Keswick Rivers and on up into Carleton County above Juniper. Lots of stuff to see.
Nice work! Too funny, I figured you’d switch to LED’s, the trailer looks great man, and peace of mind is worth a lot. Good call on rustproofing too, I’ll have to get a can or two from Princess Auto (such a great store) and coat mine too. Great video, and thanks for sharing. Cheers!
Hey Phil ! thanks man ! yeah I was sort of waiting for those bulbs to die but they just never did and I think I actually broke the bulb while opening the lense cap haha but it was a good reason to change lol
Yeah man the Fluid Film is great stuff, I also like the Rush check products (green and red) depending on application. But Fluid film is easy for me to get... wink wink haha Cheers buddy
I love watching your videos keep it up man!
thanks a lot man, happy to have ya as a subscriber !
Nicely done!
The tires on my toy hauler had the exact same wear pattern on them. The reason for this is that the axle tube is not heavy enough. I replaced it with one of a higher weight rating and presto; no more inside wear on the new tires.
Oh, and don't use bearing buddies. All you're doing with those is pushing more grease inside the cavity than it can handle, so it'll push out the backside. Once the bearings and bearing cavity are properly packed they don't need to be touched until the next scheduled maintenance. Most mechanics will tell you this.
Awesome vid buddy! Thanks for sharin!
Go Leafs!
Hey Buddy ! so you think I may need a heavier Axle for my little trailer? the Grizz is only 600lb.... I can't see that being over the weight limit eh?
@@Maritimer depends what the axle tube is rated at.
This is actually correct. As you will see my reply to another comment.
Stick grizzly with upgraded tires and full fuel plus cargo boxes is closer to 800, plus the weight of the trailer all on an old 1200 or 1500 lb axel.
@@jasonmorehouse3756 Quaddingsous is a smart guy ! thanks for the help Jason !
I agree with Q. Except for one thing….. GO HABS GO. 😂😂😂. @Quaddindsous
Your pretty handy! Good ole bay of fundy lock tight ! 😂
hahaha I fake it pretty good lol
you could use one of the new wheels for a spare tire....after having a flat on my trailer, and NOT having a spare, that's exactly what i did, without a problem since...just a suggestion.
Hey man, yeah I bought a 3rd tire on a rim to use as a spare. I plan on doing a short video on mounting it to my trailer. So your suggestion was spot on, ahead of the curve haha thanks for watching !
Great video James!👍🏼☮️
thanks my friend !
Nice job !!! 👍👍👍
I'm glad to see that your daughter and Wendell inspected the work you did. 😊😊😊
thanks man !! Oh yes they have a keen eye for quality workmanship lol
I was just going to suggest Fluid FIlm and thought I'd better skip forward to see and you were putting it on, haha. Good video, I put Fluid Film on my snowmobile trailer axle and our cars. We get loads of salt in WNY during winter, it eats everything, but FF works and stops it. I miss having a landscape trailer, so functional.
Hey Buddy ! yeah man fluid film is good stuff ! Oh yes you being in WNY you know about the salt like we do..... salt in the air, salt on the roads.... it's hard on vehicles.
Good job! Wendell looked full of beans.
hahaha oh yeah he was all wound up... lol
Best Wendall doing zombies
hahahaha yeah he gets all wound up ! lol
Nice trailer, maintenance is the key to avoiding the mishaps that can ruin a day out, a lot of people forget about their wheel bearings. I have the bearing buddies, they are great and make the process very simple. Like the brown pressure treated decking, nice choice.
Hey man ! thanks a lot ! you're so right ! I'm no mechanic, just sort of a backyard tinker'er haha so I hope this video helps some people out. thanks again ! cheers !
I recommend pulling and fully cleaning the inboard bearing then using a bearing packer to replace the grease within. New seals also. That undercoat looks interesting. I had not seen that before. You might mention that most trailer tires require higher PSI than normal car tires, and it is important to them performing correctly. Consider some treatment on the new wood? Maybe a stain to prevent water absorption?
I would have neded a bearing press to get the back one out, I dont have one nor was I going to buy one haha but yeah if you have the ability to get that bearing out, then for sure you should clean it the same.
@@Maritimer In most cars, you can usually put the nut back on without the outer bearing and yank the hub to pull the bearing and seal out of the hub. That does not work on same size trailer bearings, but a punch or drift and a hammer will knock the seal lose and release the bearing. If the seal was not damaged and there was no evidence of water (which there wasn't any), you are fine doing what you did. Sorry to be getting technical on you here. You make great videos!
Hey buddy, good updates you made to the good olde trailer, doing some maintenance on mine as well here, 5’x8’ mission aluminum one, need to redeck, re-tire, grease bearings etc. even painted the rims lol, anyways ya sometimes it’s easy to put this type of maintenance further down on the list so I hear ya there!
Anyways ya like these vids man, I like all your vids really lol. Take care buddy! Cheers!
Hey man ! you're so right man, and I was guilty of putting it off, but at least it's done now and I don't need to worry about it. Cheers man !
Nice job mate 👍👍👍
thanks man !
Good stuff
thanks man !
I think your tires wore on the one side because they were under inflated. I had the same issue on mine. Seemed crazy to me to put 90 psi in a tire but that was what it called for and made all the difference.
man you could be right ! I cant see it being any other reason..... I do notice the trailer sways a bit behind my truck, not a lot but it never seems to be going perfectly straight, it gots left to right the whole time..... not sure if thats normal or just looks like that in my rearview mirror....
Under inflation would wear both shoulders on the tire. Center if over inflated. Wearing on one shoulder on a trailer is load related. Inside edge is over loaded, outside means under loaded. Your axel is pre arched to take the load.
Nice 👌
thanks man !
I guess different things need to be done in different climates. I just repaired a tire and going to repaint deck . But I have 20 ft trailer and two 5000lbs axles . I’ve hauled a few trucks in it fro people. But only maintenance in 7 years has been two paint jobs on deck. . Liked your video though . Not looking forward to deck replacement when that comes .
Hey Buddy ! Ohhhh man yeah the deck replacement isn't fun, or cheap haha and your trailer is much larger than mine lol but its a piece of mind once its all done. thanks for watching !
Great video man
thanks buddy
Wendel has to steal the show on every video. LOL! 😂
Everytime.... hahahaha I like it that way.
Good job maintaining your trailer. Time well spent. Much better doing it at home then on the side of the road, in the rain. Have a great week.
oh man you are so right, I was so worried about those tires ! and they have been bad for a while now.
Hi Wendall. Nice job on all the upgrades and maintenance. One thing I added on my trailer was a lockable tool box on the tongue to hold my straps and nick knack's.
Hey man ! thanks a lot ! YES ! I may do that in the future, along with a spare tire install. maybe i'll do a video on those. thanks !
unfortunately trailers are behind us and quite often forgotten until our multi thousand dollar toys are smashed, beat up and ruined from something so easily prevented.. TRAILER MAINTENANCE..
Great Vid, I like L.E.D lights less worry and longevity.. Mr Wendell was having a fat time running around like a free wild animal lolol.. Thanks for sharing
Hey Buddy ! you're so right ! and like I said I have been putting this off for a while now haha thanks man ! Cheers !
Looks great brother! One thing I did with my wiring was a junction box style wiring harness. I took the 4 flat wires and ran them into a sealed box from Amazon on the other end is a sealed 7 round plug. I got tired of all my splices coming loose or corroding. Also, I plan on adding trailer brakes in the future. Cheers!
Ohhhhhhh thats a good idea too ! keep it out of the weather all together.
Nice man, thanks for watching !
Wow your daughter has gotten so big! I love frisky Wendell. Great video!
haha I know eh, I keep telling her to slow down on this growing up thing... haha
Good video showing how it is done. Bearing buddies are awesome. My trailer driving lights quit on me. Gotta fix that soon - and you are well ahead of so many others in this sport who get their toy delivered home and can't tow it anywhere to visit all these different parts of the provinces.
Hey thanks man ! yeah you gotta get on thanks, lights are important ! hahaha some people don't think ahead far enough for that lol Oh well, we will be on the trail with less people lol
I just put bearing buddys in my 5x8ft trailer they seem great and I even greased the bearings after I put the bearing buddys in a lot cleaner job
Yeah man that was my thought, I think those bearring buddys would probably pump a lot more grease in there than needed (the cavity between bearings was fairly large, I'm not sure why...) but it would be easier and cleaner for sure.
Good job👍....Go BRUINS 😁
hahahaha Screw your Bruins !!! lol there window of winning anything is slowly closing.. Chara gone.... Bergeron only has maybe a year left..... Machand is getting older..... yu still have Pasta and that Slaven (thats your goalie right?) he looks good.
@@Maritimer 😁🤣🤣jus teasing yeah whole new team , goalies are Swayman&Ulmark
Great Upgrades, Have To Keep Everything Safe ! ATB T God Bless
Hey thanks Terry !Cheers buddy !
Good video! My Dad gave me his old trailer this year. Was thinking about a freshener up video. Piece of mind while towing is so important. Especially when towing long distance.
You should do a video on it for sure, people seem to like the maintenance videos. and it will for sure be a piece of mind for ya. Cheers buddy !
Trailer looks great, thanks for sharing
thanks buddy !
Good job...ready for alot of safe travels.
yes sir ! more atv trips !
Awesome job, lots of work, but it’ll last a long time 👌🏻👌🏻
Yep I hope so haha it needed to be done, I have been putting it off. lol
I use the fluid film all the time ! Food grade.
shes's good stuff ! not cheap though haha
nice job, i always solder any wiring i do (i don't have faith in those butt connectors). stay safe!
Solder is WAAAAY better, and I wanted too but when I plugged my gun in, it either wouldn't get hot enough in the spring cool air or the gun is F#@ked haha I need to get it fixed or a new one.
When did Wendell break? What a goof!
lol
Hey buddy nice video! Nice job on the trailer, looks great 👍 I actually just put tires on my trailer a few weeks ago. I bought mine without rims, it was a little cheaper. I need to repaint mine. I wanted to do it this past summer but I was always busy and it was so hot this summer. I should do it before winter. Looking forward to seeing some riding videos with the restored trailer. Be safe out there and cheers 🍻
Hey Rob ! thanks man ! I wanted ones with no rims but they were more expensive ! (even after paying to swap over to my Galvanized rims haha
thanks again man ! Cheers !
6:30 - all of a sudden the new tire is back on the new rim!
Sorry Clint, I'm not sure what you're trying to tell me. The guys at Gagnon Tire put the tires on the rims. There may be some spots where certain parts of the trailer are at different stages in the resto.... I did this over a few days and then tried to piece it together so it flowed for the video...
@@Maritimer yeah, I figured it was editing. Just making light of the brand-new looking tire and wheel sitting behind you after they were already at the tire shop getting changed.
@@cnaef19 oh that may have been the 3rd one I bought to use as a spare tire.
try a flap disk for removing rust next time Could be much quicker.
hahaha I picked up a flap dick the other day !
Actually, u need it a little tighter because of the weight of the tire. Free spinning is too loose.
Hey Jody ! how tight do you think they need to be? seemed like a 1/4 turn almost stops the wheel from spinning. I'm no mechanic, just looking to learn.
What size is your trailer
Hey ! I thought I mentioned in the video, it's a 5X8'
That 3rd board in is crooked ! and you used to many screws bahaha
hahahahaha thanks for noticing ! lol
What size is your trailer
5X8 Blackhawk utility trailer.
