Fantastic work! I’ve done a, I’ll call it a mild restoration, on a 1973 H1 500. What a blast that was, so I really appreciate what you did here. Love the concept and the paint! What a great way to bring an old bike back to be enjoyed.
Thank-you Cody. Again I will say it. I look forward to your content. You never preach in a patronizing way. You reflect a philosophy of life long learning and the learning of others. Thank-you. Keep on sharing. I owe my interest in and growing gknowledge and courage to try and do work on bike electrics and maintain my 30 year old Goldwing to you. I used your early electrical vids on my XR400 e-start conversion melding the Baja dual sport kit, to the EX400 stator and associated wiring and added in XR650L switches…. You helped solve lots of issues as that evolved. What is your take on lithium batteries and VRRs…. Do we really need a VRR with a lower set point when using Lithium Ion Batteries. Looking for my next project but just can’t seem to find something I am as passionate about as the old XR…… Keep on bringing it!
Yeah man, I've been watching you put this bike together for a while now. Turned out BA. I have a bobbed KZ440. took it to South Dakota a couple months ago, 1600 miles. Keep put out the content bro, I've enjoyed it.
@@TheMotorcycleMD My favorite part was the custom speedo bracket/indicator lights. I basically did the same on my bike. went with a digital speedo/tach. also added a digital oil pressure gauge and a digital temp gauge. both came in clutch on the ride to SD, I lost an oil ring and was burning oil. I knew exactly how much oil I had in the case and when the motor was getting too hot with those gauges.
That turned out great. You can get a decent paint job with spray cans and a good 2 part clear coat these days. You just have do the prep work and take your time. I've done a few tanks now and each one is better than the last. Most people couldn't tell my tanks from a professional spray gun job.. but those who know could probably spot which is which.
100% agree with this. Prep is everything. I was so meticulous with the prep. Wipes, sticky cloths, dry time. That 2k clear coats are no joke. Learned a lot just spraying that. Made a great bond with no bugs 🤘🏻
Nice job on a budget! Rattle can job looks good too. Btw, if it weren't for your online courses on Honda V4 carbs I never would have been able to rebuild and split them myself. No mechanic would touch them...lol. Those are NOT easy carbs. Thanks for all of your content bud!!
I had the same bike in the mid 1980s, I think top end was about 72 m.p.h. Sold it and the new owner put the 650 motor in it, using a torch to heat and spread the front frame tubes to allow the fit.
Nice work Cody. Through everything happening peripherally you recreated a nice piece of history. The beard grew longer but not grayer. I hope to see more builds/restorations. I am working on my 4th VF500F now. I dont know what you sold the KZ for but a new 400 goes for $5k and that one is unique.
Very nice, I'm in the middle 14:21 of rebuilding a Z200 (in the UK they dropped the K?), It's only been 4 years so far, but seeing your's finished has given me motivation to get mine sorted. 👍
Nice👍 There is something to say about old iron. I Just finished restoring the 99 Arctic Cat 400. It needed everything. lol My next one will be the old 83 Honda 200 x.
cool little scrambler/cafe mod. the paint scheme is subtle and fits the bike. for being a bit smaller engine. older bike, has that old school flare. only critique might be. shoulda maybe popped off those large engine panels, done a little bit more to polish off some of that corrosion. the old cast aluminum engine housings will come back to life with a little elbow grease. Or done some detailing to make the kawi type face pop. ...i dunno. just a little something to make that engine feel like it got some lipstick.
Those are some great bikes, I had a kz1000 back in the late 80’s as well as an H1.
Fantastic job Cody, you should get into this kind of jobs more often ❤❤

WOW, That was a long and deep learning project for you and the owner. Congratulations on its completion.
